RecyMech Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Evening all, Just wondered if anyone can help me out with any pictures & dimensions of 70s/80s British Army 5 gallon oil drums please. As used for say, OMD 110, OEP 220 & such like. Trying to establish exactly what the top looked like so I can get some 1/24th scale ones made.....they had a bog seat shaped pressing & a flat wire ring carry handle if the old memory is working correctly. Single piccy of the top would be great, dimensions just need to be height & diameter if anyone can help, much appreciated chaps. Best regs. Howard @ KFS kfs1@btinternet.com Quote
Peter4456 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Are these the ones that used to be housed in the turret baskets of Chieftains etc? I've got a fairly recent OEP220 drum I could photograph if that's any help or if you can wait until next week, I'm sure I can photograph some older examples! Quote
RecyMech Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 Hi Peter, Yes mate thats the ones, dead on.....(given Chieftains thirst for lubricants & fluids in fact, its the most common place to see them outside the LAD.) :-D:-D No mad panic on these so if you get to photograph some examples & any lettering is still visible that would be an unexpected bonus :cool2: Really appreciate your help, thanks a million. Peter4456 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 It doesn't look like they've changed much! I'll try and photograph some older examples next week. Quote
fv1609 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Here the pheon is at the top, from a 1971 MAOS Quote
Hoseman Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 im a hydraulics engineer and see these all the time in older sites and old farms. only in civilian colours but exactly same drums if thats any help. maybe a farm near you or even a local oil supplier should be able to help out! Quote
RecyMech Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 OUTSTANDING !!!! Superb Clive, many thanks on the dimensions....that has saved soooo much searching & scratting around for answers. Hoseman, yeah true. I can find civilian examples, the tricky bit was getting that bog seat effect confirmed. Most of the modern civy tin ones I've seen just have a constant lip right round the top. Peter, even though Clive has come up trumps with dimensions....if you see others with different content lettering, then please DO take a picture. That would be superb. Thanks in advance. Best regs.........Howard @ KFS Quote
