Busy day in the sunshine getting those hoops sorted.

Quick redesign with the angle grinder and the U clips are ready for welding.

20180602_135131.thumb.jpg.3c52b2da3acc2753b0b870951a9fb379.jpg

After welding the corner and getting them to fit over the sideboard next job was to tack weld the clips to the tubes in the correct position then take them off and weld down each side tidy up the welds and paint.

fitting those clips really made a difference, good solid and upright, canvas next.

20180602_145115.thumb.jpg.cd4f01744476b0446f00521fa215b827.jpg

Canvas fits a lot better now.

Next job will be to sort the rear lights, the set I made to hook onto the taiboard are now covered by the rear canvas that hangs down below the foot holds so am experimenting with magnetic ones.

Or

20180602_145359.thumb.jpg.979570b451ccbfa2463bf4142a5c3f0a.jpg

I prefer the second pos as the lights are higher and are more in your  eye line God knows if they will stay where put, will give them a try, I don't want to have modern lights fitted permanently if pos but I do want to be safe.

Last job was red nuts

Think  the reds a bit too bright will see what it looks like when dry.

Truck has now done 50 odd miles and is really starting to settle down and run sweet and I must admit I'm really enjoying driving the old thing as long as it doesn't rain ! 🙃

As a modeller, I am pleased to see that you vindicate my thoughts that the central hinge and its associated strap on the tailboardis not exactly central, but offset just a little to the right.  Those drawing modellers plans, and not a few modellers, have failed to notice that!

Took the Bedford to the Welland steam rally Friday and had a great time, though with bad weather forecast for Sunday we bailed out around 8.30 am and I drove the 45 odd miles home today in the p#ssing rain. I now know that these early MW,s are character building and that even in summer can be interesting to drive ! In fact it got so interesting that I could barely see where I was going at times, must be fecking freezing in the winter no wonder they were called pneumonia wagons !

Looking a bit damp after a shower on Saturday 😎

Back in it's shed and it's all wet and muddy 😎 bit like the owner and just like an army truck should be, 250 miles in and still going strong 😁 will check brakes and wheel bearings etc before I take it out again.

Top tubes fitted to the hoops on these early bedfords, captured by germans in Dunkirk? Who can tell?

But I have to admit that I also found some pictures without top tubes.

Cheers,

Danny

The 2nd photo of Bedford MW is on the front cover of my book and has a German field post number as a reg number, until they were given a WH number.

2nd photo of Bedford mw on the eastern front.

A few more photos from the book.

Having sorted the track rods out took it for a quick spin without the canvas to check all ok the other wkend.

Noted a dull knock / rattle on tickover 😣 suspected loose crank pulley ! ! Yep that's what it turned out to be .

20181201_123948.thumb.jpg.c19c6973340a9c0dc6dca4a5e83f6bcb.jpg

So off with the front of the truck and yes even though we drifted the pulley on when the engine was rebuilt it was loose in fact loose enough for me to remove it by hand ! Luckily the old OY engine had a decent one which I managed to remove and swap over.

Back together by end of day with peace of mind knowing it should be sorted, engine running nice and quiet again 😁

An enjoyable afternoon spent tinkering with the MW repainted one of the jacks and replaced the old shovel with a 39 dated example and swapped out the wire cutter for a pair of 1940 ones.

I know I know  the greens too dark but I don't care I like that colour so that's the colour it's gonna be  😁
