Captured vehicle markings

Hi looking for some help. I have been told that german captured vehicles had some kind of yellow flag/star marking painted on them? Reason for asking is we have a wannabee Mercedes/GMC which we have just painted dark grey. we want to take it to shows but as most of the displays we tend to camp with are US we want to still include the vehicle but mark it as captured. Wondered if anyone knew how to mark it. Im told that they didnt just paint the star on it. Thanks;)

Green paint,white stars, and I'm sure 'impressed' vehicles had a serial number, but with an 'X' identifier in front, sort of USA - X1233456

I think a (5 pointed) yellow star was a pre-invasion US marking. It changed to the white star when it was applied to wider allied forces.

"Cuckoo" was certainly repainted green, the others look like they have been too.

I suppose it depends upon how much time between capture & reuse.
