Bit blurred I'm afraid but I don't want to give the game away.:D

The item on the right was on a white background but it seems the type on the left could be in up to 6 different colours.

So what are these & how were they used?

Darn,

trying to do a bit of surreptitious googling and fourth suggestion down is a link to another thread of Clive's conundrums.....

Also disregarding the disinformation linked to the image.....

Unfortunately my shelves are filled with the wrong sort of books for this.

Off for another trawl of the www

:D Yes I sometimes I get caught out by finding something that interests me then find that bloke got there already.

Best of luck with the search.

I just googled the bare bones of the answer & got over 14 million hits. Mind you the ones I read didn't give the answer ;)

Ok Bernard part of the title of the manual it comes from is (Overseas in War) 1938

You would expect to see several of these on the left in maybe their various colours but none of those on the right.

When you see these on the right (black & white only) you wouldn't see any of those on the left.

I think i may know. I have what might be a later type. Is it for documenting or marking out supplys for wagons.

Top left: British army, date, From (consignor or station)

Top right: to (consignee or destination)

Bottom left: No of wagons in consignment.

and on the bottom right does it have space for: wagon number, Weight of contents- tons/cwts.

At the bottom does it say " To be used for FORWARD traffic only"

Or something similar :D

Yes well done

I think I'll have to stick to pre-war war manuals ie before 1914 :D
