Masseyboy89
Hi all, Just taken my MUTT for a pre-mot and the biggest thing flagged up was the lack of seat belts in the front. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the requirements/have any advice? I am hoping to get away with a lap style instead of a 3point. All input is welcomed... sirhc
I thought if it wasn't built with them it didn't need them?
Nick Johns
UK manufactured light vehicles, cars, light commercials, landrovers, had to have approved seat belt anchorage points fitted after 1965, then later it became mandatory if it has the anchor points it has to have belts fitted, basic three point lap and diagonal type. US built military vehicles of the period most likely weren't manufactured with seat belt anchor points Edited January 24, 2012 by Nick Johns
Marmite!!
http://www.ukmot.com/mot_check.asp#information10 SEAT BELTS Most vehicles after 1965 must have seat belts, irrespective of that requirement, all seat belts fitted to any vehicle must be inspected for: • Security of seat belt mountings and locking stalks • Security and operation of the locking/release mechanism • Condition of webbing • Retraction of the belt (it is permissable to manually feed it in). Notes: 1 For technical reasons the inertia locking mechanism is not checked. 2 On some vehicles the belt is attached to the seat, in which case the security of the seat to the vehicle would also constitute part of the seat belt check. I am not sure if you could argue a MUTT as goods though.
melchy
I understand that you only need a seat-belt if there's a seat for it to belt someone into. Probably best to leave the drivers seat in though.
