70HONEYMONSTER Posted January 6, 2012 Share Posted January 6, 2012 Just removed cylinder heads off Gardner LW Engine.Piston no 4 ( from front of engine ) looks awfully wet compared to the rest of them.Is this due to a faulty injector, piston rings or just unburnt fuel on the last stroke before stopping.See attached photos.Left hand piston in the picture,Right hand valves in the head. 70HONEYMONSTER Posted January 6, 2012 Author Share Posted January 6, 2012 The said liquid does smell of diesel and the sump oil was not unusually thin.Don,t think it had been changed in a while.I think what you are going to tell me that if the oil was thinner it would be mixing with the diesel ,therefore might be the rings? 70HONEYMONSTER Posted January 7, 2012 Author Share Posted January 7, 2012 Cheers guys.All these comments back up what I was thinking,it would be something to do whith the injector.The heads were removed because of a leaking cylinder head gasket.New gasket and the rubber washers between the head and block should sort that out.
