My 54 is a satin finish, looks great and is esisier to clean. Military reasons for painting a vehicle, 1 To Protect it! 2 To camouflage it 3 Cosmetic. Have some new tyres on the wheels, yes I know these are not the right tires, it are nato tires but came very cheep (for free). Looking to fabricate the side sections of the cargo body. It is a colour from Renault commercial vehicles that was really a nice match with some original ww2 bike part still in the original painted colour.The problem is that I use a epoxy based paint and it don't is really matt. After I painted my body parts I need to rub thees a bit to have a matt look. Yes I know y use epoxy paint, it is very strong and will last. Guy, Thanks for the responce. It does look very good! The base for the rear body looks good. Tyres....yeah, well....who can beat free tyres. Maybe in the end you can at least swap the front tyres for a more Britsh-style tyre. Thanks Niels for sending my the original part that we used as a model. And this are the remains of my gearbox covers and the newly made parts !!!! guy66 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Share Posted October 24, 2012 After a few weeks of for work I made a new start on the QL, repaired and renew some of the wooden cross members. The angel iron underside parts are in place and now I can start to make the cargo body side sections from angle iron and sheet metal plate. Hi Niels , on my floor al the planks where screwed to the cross members, butt the difference of fitments can be that my floor is coming from a caravan type body. guy66 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Share Posted October 26, 2012 (edited) Here we have a almost complete floor on the cargo section of my QL, the cleaning of the planks is the biggest job of it al because there is some sticky stuff on the top floor that I want to get rid of before the woodwork get some fresh paint. After the trial fit and cleaning of the floor I will remove this lot to paint and then store as I discovered now that the easiest way to make the metal sides will be without the floor in place. Numbered al the planks and it will be a easy yob to put everything in place when the side sections are made. Next week we move from woodwork to metal work. This is a very good idea to have QL meet up there, somewhere on the forum there is a tread for a bedford MW meet in 2014, maybe we can make it a WD bedford meet! geoffleese Posted November 8, 2012 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Well, we're doing our "bit". The fields are sorted, twice the space of 2009, and a bunker that we hope to have excavated. Gunpits and trenches will be dug, if requested. Funds have been secured for the usual 50% contribution to the hire of toilets and showers, final night meal etc. Two "runs out" are in the planning stage - one to Pegasus Bridge, the other to Tilly sur Seulles. Negotiations continue with Brittany Ferries for a preferential rate (if they're still trading by then!) as do negotiations with town, district, county and state for subsidy. Spare wheel clamping system was made via some pictures in "Bedford to Berlin" book, I made also some sections of the spare wheel loading ramp. This will be the last work outside on the QL because it start to get very cold under the carport, maybe I can start on the rear hatch in the workshop but then I will need to visit my friend with the QL to take some measurements.:undecided: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
