Well I'm glad I got a translation , but it isn't.

Would it help to know that the lower end has a leather covering?

Right, the other end then!

A barrel plug for an artillery gun to prevent water and debris falling down into it?

Going by rough measurements against the computer screen, if its 22" long, that makes it approx 2.8" Dia at the leather covered end, this is close to the old 10lb mountain gun size of 2 3/4"

Yes it does fit the barrel/muzzle of an artillery gun but not for that purpose. Consider the role that this particular gun plays
