robin craig Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 So, while leafing through my manuals for the 432 I was looking at the various variants shown there in. Was figuring that the FV 432 with internal winch kit is none I have not seen anywhere in private or museum hands. Did any survive? R Quote
andym Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I've only ever seen black & white photos of them, so I don't think they were around for long. There's some more information on the REME museum website here: http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/collections_view.aspx?id=36 Andy Quote
sirhc Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I've seen 2, but neither of them had the winches fitted. Note the ground anchors either side of the rear door in these photos. The shiny green one used to belong to a friend, it's a Mk1 and was equipped as a standard APC. The other one with the cut down rear door was at Withams in 2005. 24A is a REME LAD call sign. sirhc Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I'd say it's more likely these are the well known black and white images? Quote
antarmike Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Thanks, well known only if you have 432 manuals then? Edited June 19, 2011 by antarmike Quote
andym Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 The well known B and W photo?? Yes, that's the one i was thinking of. I haven't seen Chris' example before; it's not in any of my manuals! Andy Quote
sirhc Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I am surprised, I have the 1965 user manual with suppliments 1 to 12, 12 being the winch installation... I thought this would be the easiest one to get hold of? http://www.ekmpowershop5.com/ekmps/shops/greenmachines/fv432-fv-432-mk2-and-mk21-user-handbook-171-p.asp Chris Quote
andym Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Ah - that may be because mine only goes up to Supplement 10. Interesting ... A shame the REME museum didn't pick that one up from Withams at the time. Andy Edited June 19, 2011 by andym Quote
jpg1982 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Having seen the above photos and images im fairly certain I know the where abouts of a mk 1 432 that may be winch equiped. It certainly had the ground anchor on the back as i caught my leg on the thing and wondered what it was. Anyway I will look into it further now, as I didnt give it to much attention at the time. robin craig Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Brilliant, wonderful if a complete one can be feasibly saved. R Quote
Marko Polo Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 I used to drive a mk 1 petrol 432 with a winch in the back..it could winch 6 tons 1:1. .. it was based at 27 Command workshops REME Warminster about 1976..unfortunately I lost my photos in a flood otherwise I could have shown you.it had a spade that fitted on the rear and also several tackle blocks for 2:1/3:1..we did use the winch but not often as we had no occasion to use it..it was too light to be effective, although I did use it to pull out some tree roots in Warminster park once. I only Ever seen this one in a 432 1 Quote
