Tony B Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 My old timing light, actually more of a candle, has finally packed up. As it must be twenty five years plus since I purschased such a tool, can anyone recommend a suitable economic replacement? Quote
0 R Cubed Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Sorry cant suggest a good alternative but when you find one try to go for one with a variable knob to adjust the timing as many vehicles now only have a TDC mark so you need to adjust the point at which the strobe fires to give the correct timing. 0 Tony B Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Been doing a quick plip through prices . So far about £40!!! Mine I think was about £7 when I bought it! Probably worth asking a friendly garage to do a full Crypton tune. Quote
0 Bran D Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I havent used one in years. With modern fuels the actual timing thats best for the vehicle can only be acurately set by road testing. The advance value in manuals, especially for older vehicles is no more than a ball park figure. If you want one go for a cheapie. The only time I would use one is to see if the advance is working as the revs increase and that there is no instability due to wear etc. Quote
