Hello Folks, I am trying to research some of the camo schemes used on german armour during the 2nd world war.

I have try'd googling with some results but would I was wondering if anyone on here knew of any good on-line sources? I'm going to have a trawl of some of the military modeling websites aswell to see what they can throw up.

Thanks for any help.

If you're still looking or interested @Smiler, PM me with your email address and I will send you photos I've taken from a great book called Wehrmacht Heer Camouflage Colors, the book is out of print and hard to get hold of but does appear on eBay occasionally. The book lists the camouflage colours with an example along with the year/theater they were used in.

While I build models, I don't build German WW2 stuff, though a quick peruse of specialist modellers forums suggests that the subject is a minefield. While there were orders and directives, their interpretation in the field varied widely (though this was equally true of Allied vehicles). It's a fact that new information and pictures are still emerging, for example when the Berlin Wall came down many Soviet records became available.

The 'pointy heads' on German armour will quote the differences, on the same vehicle, between Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon!

As a general rule I'm always a bit wary about restored and reproduction vehicles.

In my Opa's unit....for winter cam they used a mop and a bucket of white paint (Stug III, 21cm and 24cm Morser). I do have many of his pictures from the War in the East, I'll see if i can fid some time to scan them in.

In the other months, well, it was all quite crude really.

Cheers
