Richard Farrant Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Just wanting opinions please , am i better fitting a n.o.s head gasket or brand new one from a jeep parts supplier or does it not make a difference The most important thing is to check for any bow in the head face, because whatever gasket you use, will not seal it. RMS Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I Have found the new Fel-Pro USA ones are the best. always run a very very thin smear of sealant (a tip from Tony Sudds) around the outer edges of the gasket top and bottom, and as richard said check the head for warp. Barry Quote
thedawnpatrol Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Yep, I'll second that, I always smear gasket sealant around both sides of the gasket, you only want to do the job once! protruck Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 There's nothing special about it. I've just used for Donkeys years and never had a problem with anything leaking were it has been used. I think Rolls Royce used it to put there Engines together with. and Scammells used it on there Axles, Gearbox's, and PTO's. Clive ................................ protruckservices.com Quote
berna2vm Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Wellseal is excellent and I used to use it on all truck engine rebuilds. I am certain that Hylomar was developed by Rolls-Royce to seal their engines. I would not hesitate in recommending this product either. Quote
Willyslancs Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 we use to use hylomar at TVR many years ago . cheers for the replies guys ........ Quote
gazzaw Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Same at Vauxhall/Bedford when I served my time in the early 70s we used Hylomar Blue and it was best around then -well we thought so and Rolls Royce recommended it lol. Quote
