Insurance, Road Tax etc

I have just heard that the Police did a spot check at a Veteran Car show last year after someone noticed a vehicle without a tax disk. It was later found that 5 vehicles had been driven to the show with no Insurance or Road Tax. I do not know if they were MVs or not. This is worrying to me, as it could result in our hard won exemptions being taken away. What do other Forum members think?

Can't think how that reflects on us, you cant get a tax disc without insurance and MOT (or declared exemption)

so just like a normal every day offence. The only reason for a historic vehicle not having a free disc will be one of the above reasons.

Too true. Three of my vehicles fall in tax exempt periods/classes so the cost is not an issue. Not having a disk - even one for £0.00 is an offence though as the owner wil not have proved that he has insurance at the very least, assuming the MOT exemption may apply (even the the a copy of the V112 should be available for that year).

Actually thinking about it, one of the shows i attend has on the entry form a requirement to provide proof of insurance (Name of Insurer/Policy No.) or show a copy on registering on the day, which totally gets around the problem of people trying to get in with illegal vehicles.

Good idea, should maybe advise other organisers to add it into show registration.

I forgot to renew my GMC disc within the alloted time one year while she was hibernating - cost me £90 penalty :mad: Only myself to blame though.

Have you seen the first year RFL penalty for daring to buy a medium/large 4x4 from this year? £900:wow: I can understand the thinking behind taxing the rich but for many such as farmers and my wife whose work involves visiting farms and garden centres a 4x4 is a necessity not a luxury.

And yet there is a car near my house that hasn't turned a wheel in about a year and a half with a tax disc over a year out of date and yet it's still there, on a public street and hasn't had so much as a ticket!!

The 'camera crew' seem to have a very god time round here. Not many untaxed vehicles about! Point is if the vehicle is on the road without tax, often there are other nastier little problems.

I lost track of the reminder for my motorcycle last year & ended up paying a penalty....Must do better !

 

A while ago somebody had a dig at me for driving a 'gas guzzling 4x4 truck'

I said 'Fair enough - you find me an alternative that will carrry my 1/2 ton of tools whilst towing our 2 1/2 ton trailer and I'll happily swap the truck for whatever you find me' - It's one of the tools of my trade & I have it out of necessity , I would quite happily have an Escort van or whatever if I could manage with one, it would certainly be a damn sight cheaper .

With un taxed cars it seems they only catch those they see driving, and there are many parked on roads withut tax. These however you report to the DVLA. This link takes you a page where you can turn them in.

Some Local Authorities also have means of reporting abandoned and/or untaxed cars and they normally get them removed.

Had a problem with a car that was dumped/left outside my house it had road tax. Once established (after 6 weeks) that it was not somebody in the roads I filled in an online LA form. Within 48 hours the owner came with a tow truck and removed it. I think the threat of the LA doing it and sending him a big bill did the trick.

 

As for these righteous people who moan about gas guzzling cars most of them are probably hypocrits and drive a Prius. They seem to forget many people have a big 4x4 because they need it for work and/or towing.

 

I remeber reading a survey (a few years back now) in one of the Sunday papers. They had got the results of research showing dust to dust impact of a vehicle. This is basically the environmental impact of manufacture, usage on average miles and then the recycling cost,

Suprise suprise the most environmental vehicle to on was a 4 litre Jeep Cherokee. Its total environmental impact was a tenth of a Prius.

 

After all how many Prius's or othe "eco cars" do you think will be on display at classic car shows in the future.

If you have several vehicles of the same make , such as 3 Dodges eg, then you'll pay 75 € , and 15 € more for the second Dodge , 15 € for the third Dodge , and on....
