Croft Circuit Nostalgia Weekend - 7th & 8th August 2010

Recommended Posts

Another event for those of us in the North of the Country!

Croft Racing Circuit near Darlington, in conjunction with the Durham & Tees Valley MVT, are holding a Nostalgia Weekend on 7th & 8th August 2010. There will be military vehicles and equipment of all eras, classic car racing and static displays set in the backdrop of a WW2 airfield that was home to the RCAF, flying Halifax, Wellington and Lancaster bombers.

A Saturday evening dance is also planned, along with a Military Vehicle Parade Lap of the track and a fashion show on Sunday. A flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has also been applied for.

MVT members and other military vehicle groups are welcome including German vehicles, but no German uniforms. Unfortunately due to the fact that areas within the circuit are classified as a ‘War Grave’ and there is a memorial within the grounds, the decision has been made that it would be inappropriate to have German uniformed re-enactors at the event, this decision was not taken lightly and it is hoped that all those involved will understand and abide by the decision.

Since the Circuit regularly holds events, there are full plumbed in toilet facilities and plenty of space for camping.

Free entry for all personnel will be by submitting the form below; otherwise gate entry price will apply. Due to the fact that the circuit will be holding a ‘Classic Car Race’ event over both days, Croft Circuit Rules apply and dictate that NO ANIMALS ARE ALLOWED. The MVT Code of Conduct also applies.

The entry forms haven't been uploaded to the DTV website yet, but can be downloaded from the following link

Bump!

The entries are coming in chaps, but we'd always like more vehicles and dioramas, especially to support a first event. Don't sit around waiting to hear if it was any good, come along and make it a good event. There aren't enough good shows in the North of the country, and this has got the potential to be something great, especially with the classic car and bike racing during the event.

If you can, please give us your support.

Further attractions have now been confirmed for Croft, including a flying display by an Isaac's Fury, a replica of the classic 1930's RAF bi-plane. Also now confirmed is Colin Bourdiec, a George Formby impersonater who will be performing, plus vehicles from the Northern WW2 Association are confirmed.

If you aren't already booked in, get on the site and download the form, this is shaping up to be a great first event, and hopefully the first of many.

Although the entries have been good, we're extending the closing date for entries to July 31st as we've now got more space to display than originally thought, so if you'd like to come along, check out the website and get a form filled in.

Two further exciting attractions have now been added to the Croft event. We have Kev Burgon's M24 Chaffee tank on display for the weekend, and also flying displays by 'Taff' Smith from the Real Aeroplane Company based at Breighton Airfield. 'Taff' is racing during the weekend, but is bringing the Bucker Jungmeister to put on two or three aerobatic displays, weather and servicability permitting.

Great! We're planning to arrive mid morning Friday ( depending on little legs' sleep pattern ), so we should be all set up by lunch, and I'll probably be leading vehicles around the airfield to their camping spots with my Jeep!

Fingers crossed that the high pressure in the mid Atlantic moves over us for the weekend.
