  1. Iain, Fascinating, I knew you would know something of it. So do you think it was in UK service? or just trialed? As I'm sure you know, a 320 can be run through the DMU/BID250 for encryption so why this? It can obviously can be fixed to the standard 320 mountings a la 12W surf, so I guess it's a stand alone encryption unit? Apologies for all the questions. Regards Bob
  2. Anyone know about this bit of kit for a 320? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-CLANSMAN-RADIO-MILITARY-PRC320-CODE-MESSAGE-UNIT-CGT1052-/201889052390?hash=item2f018676e6:g:xt0AAOSw~CFY7j~6 It's obviously a sim as the l/h keyboard doesn't exist. BID? Never seen before, pre 319 add on for the 320?, cannot find anything about it on the net. Iain one for you? Regards Bob
  3. The bottom line of it is that the whole thing is unpoliceable so long as there is no requirement to register or license deac 'weapons'. The authorities have no idea who owns what and so long as that remains, people will be able do what they want providing they are 'careful' with whom they deal with. I am not advocating anyone doing anything illegal, but the whole knee jerk farce is open to 'abuse'. You can take that how you like. Regards Bob
  4. Hi Iain, Thanks for the info, very interesting. Because of the price I decided to leave it alone. I have tried to find out more about it but nothing so I don't think it was ever in UK service except maybe trialed, it did have an MOD record plate on it though. Regards Bob
  5. Have long known these existed and one is now for sale but know little about them, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLANSMAN-320-2-TRANSMITTER-RECEIVER-BASE-RADIO-USB-and-LSB-/201838067790?hash=item2efe7c804e:g:IDMAAOSw4CFYttwL What were they fitted into? AFV's? I never came across one in the past life. Also they need a 100w amp but have never seen one, and they must be even more hen's teeth than the set itself. I would love to buy it but need more info on it's employment... Lwt FFR's? Any info would be grateful. It is one hell of a price though but considering it's rarity maybe not? Regards Bob
  6. Thank you to all who have pm'd me expressing an interest. I have replied to you all with the price I am looking which is £500 ono. I will not be running a Dutch auction and playing people off against each other. I am open to any reasonable offer for a good deal for an increasingly rare piece. Once sold I will notify on here. Regards Bob
  7. Old spec de-ac 1991, been in my possession ever since but no longer have cert to go with it having gone missing in house move some years ago. All Birmingham proof marks present and clearly legible. Very good condition with much of original finish, also all matching serial numbers. Will take dummy .455 rounds, very crisp firing action. There is a slight crack to the cylinder (the reason it was deactivated) but not obvious unless you know where to look. The grips are also damaged, I did have a new set but again have lost them. I have more pics if anyone requires. Anybody interested please pm me. Regards Bob
  8. Hi Richard, What is it you want to achieve? Do you have a radio fit in your vehicle? If so is it VHF or HF? Are you after wing mounted TUAAM (VHF) antennas, antennas to go vehicle side candlesticks (HF) or on 8 & 12m masts (VHF or HF)? some pics of your wagon may help. Sorry but you need to be more specific. More than willing to help if you can clarify. Regards Bob PS: aerial [sic] goes in washing machines, antennas on vehicles and masts (an old RSI adage).
  9. Richard, It's no trouble, the mast your depict is a 5.4m, normally associated with infantry PRC352 man pack use at section and platoon level. FFR's in the main use the big 8m & 12m masts as already said, remoted from the vehicle (but sometimes attached with specialist fitting and associated with higher formations). These masts were made by Racal (8m & 12m) and Clark (12m) and still are supplied to MOD by the latter. There is shed loads of pics on the net of these so have a search and enjoy. They are available ex service from the usual suspects and gleebay and fetch anything from £200 - £500+ but you have to be careful. You ideally need the earlier Racal and Clark for your vehicles period. The masts support the antennas, giving extended range in simple terms, the feeders from which go through the sleeves to the vehicle radio sets, VHF & HF. Regards Bob
  10. Hi, The hardtop you picture is not from an '86 vehicle but of the much later Tithonus and Wolf type from what I can tell from the pic you've posted. That aside, the sleeve is indeed for antenna and other associated FFR services as fitted to those tops for 8m and 12m mast operations. In my experience, I never came across '86 hardtop FFR's with them fitted and on one of the units I served in that era we had two which I drove regularly. Your vehicle of course may have had a life upgrade. Regards Bob
  11. Hi Andy, Apologies, in my post above I gave you the wrong info :embarrassed:, 4m is 1 top, 1 middle, 2 bottom, see pic of the complete set, I have amended the incorrect post to avoid any confusion. Regards Bob
  12. Andy, The 4m is 2 bottom, 1 middle and 1 top, that's what came in my sealed poly bags. This is the 3m fitted to my FFR Lwt;
  13. Andy, Middle section for HF is (630-8456) used as bottom section with top section 630-8457 (subsequently superseded by 649-8410 ) for 2 section VHF sets, bottom section for HF is 630-8455. Double up on middle section 8456 for 4m HF whip. I think this is right. Regards Bob
  14. Hi Andy, I've got two sets of HF rods that came bagged as sets and without going to check, I think it's 2 bottom and one top. I will check tomorrow if someone else (Iain?) doesn't come in with a definitive. Regards Bob
  15. Hi Peter, Now with lanyard fitted......... The muzzle cover came from DS Solutions, expensive but worth every penny. Regards Bob
  16. Hi Peter, Pics of SLR arctic lanyard as promised. Regards Bob
  17. Hi Peter and Skiprat, Thanks to you both for the contacts, Pics to follow shortly of the lanyard when I've dug it out, yesterday was a very good day as will become apparent shortly:D Regards Bob
  18. Hi Peter, You are a star Sir, Thanks for taking the trouble for the pics, much appreciated. I last saw one of these 30 or more years ago. Do you know of anywhere I can find one? I have the arctic lanyard that went with the SLR version and was also used with the SMG version. Regards Bob
  19. Hi All, I'm looking for the hens teeth of the SMG world. If anyone has one, first I would appreciate pics (I do know what it looks like from past memory) as I cannot find any anywhere. Second, if anyone has a spare one prepared to let it go to a good home I will pay a very good price - please pm. Also as an aside, if anyone has a No. 5 sight cramp they don't want, I will be interested in that too. Regards Bob
  20. Hi Can anyone help, I am after a plain green, 1970's/80's, pre woodland pattern, British Army cam net 9 x 11m or 11 x 11m. Must be in good condition. Regards Bob
  21. Hi Andy, On hold at the moment pending the Autumn as all time is being taken up restoring my '57 Narrow Track Sankey. Will resume in due course, thanks for the interest. Regards Bob
  22. Is this one of the ex Iraqi or Syrian jobs?, a lot went out there (and also to Spain, etc.), just wondering, I'm sure it can be traced. Maybe from eastern Europe too? Bulgaria and the likes. You are right, it is on the PAK carriage as late war they tried to make them dual purpose with AP ammo but this was also a post war mod for flogging them to various countries. Regards Bob
  23. That's fantastic news, very pleased for you. So then for VLo fault we should be saying these are the 2 to replace? At the moment I've a little long standing project half finished on the LWT, which will be finished this weekend. IBMU will be the next job which will be the spare to the gwo one installed in the vehicle. I also have plus 2 others (non working) as spares. I may later have a go at these to get them up and running. Where did you get your tants from? Regards Bob
  24. Hi Andy, See this, it may help http://www.ferret-afv.org/manuals/clansman_wiring_harness_and_control_boxes_description.pdf Regards Bob
  25. Hi This is the basic doc I have sourced my info from, I would love to know where it came from! The doc is basically a PM one against a specific repair this if that one, 'replace all listed and you wont have a problem' but I prefer to know what the fault codes are and the "field" repairs for them. Somewhere this info exists outside of Widney. How do you know it's C26 & 14 on the PSU card? Keep us informed, any info on these things is invaluable to us all. Regards Bob
