  1. The Kings Royal Hussars (KRH) in Tidworth have a Conquerer gun tank in a tank shed, but I couldn't say whether or not it was running.
  2. On the subject of range tanks, can anyone confirm the identity of the tanks in the attached video? The video is recent footage of Lockheed Martin's new Warrior Turret on firing trials in Scotland. Unfortunately the target tanks looks like a Cromwell and Challenger. At least they might have been until a burst of 40mm AP rounds were put through them .
  3. Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a spare antennae tuner for a No22 set? Mine has been removed at some point and replaced with a warning plate, but I want to return the set to its original form. I am also in need of the correct power unit if anyone has one they want to sell or swap. I have a 19 set radio, power unit, variometer and 17 set going spare. Regards, Tom
  4. Hi Adrian, Thanks for the information. When the information arrives from the RLC museum I will post the details. The trailer data plate picture was a mistake that couldn't undo. No sign of a data plate on the trailer, only the holes for the original manufacturers plate.
  5. Hi, does anyone know how to trace the history of a British Wartime Jeep? I have the post war registration number '74 YG 08'. I have seen that there are some post war record cards in existence which detailed which unit the Jeep came from when it received its new post war registration number. Does anyone know where to get hold of these? Many thanks.
  6. Here are the pictures of my trailer hitch and the converted rear tailgate. Does anyone have any idea what the two brackets are on the underside of the tub?
  7. Thanks John, I have bought a repro data plate for it, so now I know what to stamp on it. The rear of the trailer has been converted to a lifting tailgate, which I believe was done in its later service life as it is done very well with a waterproof seal, and the rear towing hitch has been relocated, rather than cut off. Will post some pictures of the hitch and trailer.
  8. Hi, a few questions to all you trailer buffs. I have recently acquired a WW2 10cwt lightweight trailer to tow behind my Airborne Jeep. It was originally fitted with the early type hitch with the arms attached to the chassis, but has been retrofitted with the later hitch (but with smaller towing eye). My first question; is this designated a No1 Mk1 or is it just an early Mk2? The second question; what lighting would the trailer have originally been fitted with during wartime service? Did they just have have the convoy light underneath, or did they also have the MT tail lights? The brackets were evidently there at one time, but have been cut off. Just working out whether or not to weld brackets back on. Third and final question; can anyone tell me what tools etc went in the brackets inside the tub? A tyre repair kit fits nicely in one of them, but not sure what the other brackets are for. Thanks, Tom.
  9. Hi, Does anyone know who the MVT verification officer is for the Wiltshire area, or know of a route other than the MVT? I have applied through the MVT website to get my '44 ex-British Army Willys MB age verified (no registration docs) but have heard nothing back. I am trying to get it on the road for a show in June, but it's looking doubtful I'll get it on the road at the moment. Many thanks.
  10. Hello Mike, I've not forgotten. Just in the middle of a house move at the moment and trying to make some space to build the trailer bodies. I can send you what I have if you want, but it is only dimensions of the tub without the reinforcing struts, or the central chassis spar, so not sure it would be much use yet.
  11. Hi, I have a 1996 Defender 300tdi county station wagon which is also ex MoD. I believe the contract numbers are similar if not the same (I will check). I have seen them in use on RAF stations and also for use on training areas as general run arounds. When I was serving in a Training Regiment we had Defender 110 utilities (12V) as support vehicles. I am guessing that it was much cheaper to buy these in place of the LR WOLF (24V), as they are higher much higher spec. A friend has a civi 100 CSW and there are a number of differences between the his and mine. Here are some of the differences that mine has that I know of: - Military grade springs (didn't even budge if jump up and down on them). - Rear axle does not have the load compensator which is one my friends 110 CSW. - No anti roll bars fitted to the suspension. - No EGR valve fitted from new. - Fitted with an ammeter in the dashboard in place of the clock. - Basic level trim. - NATO style towing hitch fitted. - Rear bumperettes. - Military style front bumper.
  12. Hi, I would be interested in the wheels if you still have them. Where are you based? Tom
  13. Hello Mike, I am in the process of drawing up plans for a airborne trailer as I have 2 in pieces that need a new body and central spar. I am happy to share dimensions with you or even the drawings, if you can wait until I finish them. I am also looking to get a quote for for getting the body panels pressed. Anyone out there had one made before who can give me an indication of the cost? Tom M.
  14. Thanks for all the useful posts, especially the photos. I have gone for 298 olive drab for the Jeep (just the wheels for now) and a deep bronze green for all the add on brackets.
  15. Can anyone tell me what colour a 1944 Willys MB would have been in British Army service? Also any recommendations on where to get paint? I have a '44 Willys that is an ex-Airborne Jeep. Does anyone know if they were re-sprayed when the airborne conversions were carried out, or would it have remained in the factory colour? Thanks,
  16. Hi, I have just bought an 80 Watt charging set for my 22 set, but it is missing the spark plug. Can anyone tell me what the correct spark plug is? A picture would be really useful as I can't see how the plug fits securely to the screened lead. Thanks.
  17. Hi Pino, Would you be able to confirm where the mounting holes are for the radio mounting rack. Also, how have you fixed it to the wing? Have you drilled holes or welded bolts onto the wing as per the airborne modification drawings? Do you know where I can get 22 set spares? The aerial tuning dial has been removed on my set, and my power unit is in a 19 set case. Do you have any pictures of your jeep installation anywhere? Thanks
  18. Hello Ron, I have made my 22 set mount from scratch as I am unlikely to find an original one. Hence, I don't have anything to work from for the feet dimensions. I could just make them and drill the holes in the wing to match, but I am keen to keep the holes where they should be in case I find an original one day.
  19. Thanks for the useful photographs. I believe my Jeep may have been a radio Jeep as there are some pulleys fixed to the underside of the body/chassis that look to be the some size as telephone cable. There is also an unusual pair of brackets welded to the front chassis cross member. Unfortunately the Jeep was rebuilt by No23 Base Workshop in the 50s and most of the airborne conversions were lost. Only the steering wheel and horn on the dash remain. I have heard that the Base Workshops welded over any holes as part of the rebuild. Does anyone know if thus is true? I am still looking for dimensions for the 22 set mounting feet if anyone has them.
  20. Thanks for the link. I found the drawing (not one I have seen before, as the reproduced drawing pack by Rob Van Meel doesn't have that one), unfortunately the dimensions are just out of shot as the photo is only of part of the drawing, otherwise it would have been perfect. I am now on a quest to find the complete drawing.
  21. Hi, I am making a mount for a 22 set in my Airborne Jeep, but can't find the hole pattern for the mounting bolts on the wing. The airborne conversion drawings don't provide any dimensions. Does anyone have a complete rack that they can measure, or know the hole pattern? Many thanks.
  22. Hello, This is my first post. I am based in Wiltshire and am interested in WW2 British vehicles. I am restoring an British Airborne Jeep and Trailer and have a few British Motorcycles. I am ex REME, and so have some experience with wheeled vehicles and armour, happy to help anyone in the area if they need a helping hand.
