Evening everyone. It's been a long time since I've had a chance to get on the forum. My head has for once ruled my heart and I have decided to sell Thor, as I don't have time to devote to further restoration, so if you know anyone in the market for an Explorer, I would like to see him go to a good home, where he will be completed and used. Fantastic progress Andy. Looking superb. Don't feel too bad about those shiny palm couplings as thanks to Marvin the Martian I have found some.

I just bought one of those small spray guns as the land rover restoration is nearing completion. Really pleased with the result it gives and so much less hassle than the big gun for small part painting.

Just one question - If they sell Petrol in Litres, why is the price rise 16p a Gallon? Wouldn't it be better for the Government to say how much a Litre it is going up?

Sorry Woa2, that's my fault. Although I was educated in a metric society, I still think in old money for stuff like this. As mentioned above, a few pence per litre doesn't sound very much when the Government announce another rise. Seen in larger units, such as a gallon, or how much more it will cost you per tankful, I think it brings it home in a slightly more realistic way. :cry:

Very well put. I realise my last post sounds pretty uncharitable when there are people genuinely suffering in the world, but surely we need to get the economy sorted at home before extending a hand to others. I'm thinking also of countries like SPain, who have also absorbed millions of euros from other countries of the EU to keep afloat, but are not a developing nation by any means. Sadly I think prices will just keep going up here. :-(

If you look beyond the strange aero dynamics and wheel arches the body is pretty original ( If a "little" rusted :-D ) ! Wouldn't take a lot to get her back looking as she should ! Providing its not by me of course ! :red:

I reckon it would be a good project and a bit different.

If you need cheering up my restoration of Thor is now 14 years long and it's still only half done! :sleep:

I think I'll start stockpiling mineral diesel soon, so I can still drive it when it finally gets finished.

:rofl::rofl: Well there is some artistic licence in the description I agree. Clearly someones remade several bits in the past. Could be custom oversize re-bore . Not sure that kind of upgrade to the winch is possible though?

I actually quite like it. Although I'm not sure how long the front wings would last if they're fixed and not able to move with the wheels in the rough stuff. Looks like most of the bits which need to work are there. Nice project for someone I reckon.

Well you have touched on something there Jack. I'm sure I'm not alone in being fed up seeing more and more money going on foreign aid, wars in countries where we seemingly don't need to be and are not wanted, whilst at the same time the health service here has gone t+*s up, businesses are failing, the average family is struggling to survive, we pay so called 'fat cats' bonuses they can do without, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on.

As a family we have always tried to live within our means with very few frivolous extras (scammell aside :laugh:), we have always had the smallest car we could manage with- an escort when it was just the two of us, but now we are a family of six we have to run a big car, with the attendant fuel consumption. We live in a rural area so the car is essential to get around. We're both self-employed and it's getting harder to find work, although we have always done the extra to provide for the kids. Meanwhile we have seen our friend's farm labourers opting to stop work, as they would actually be better off on benefits. Something is seriously wrong with this country's economy and it's not going to be fixed quickly. Now, where are my pills.....:coffee:

Yep-I have hassled my MP too. I dread to think where this is going as it costs £130 to fill the tank on the car at the moment.

As RattlesnakeBob says it's one duty (tax) which affects us all, even if we don't own a car, as it adds a significant amount to the goods we buy which are transported by road. :mad::mad::mad:

If this is right I don't know how many people will afford to run their daily driver, let alone a hobby MV. :rolleyes:

Sorry for the late reply. Just catching up. Thanks for the all the info about the couplings. Marvin and Gritineye, those are exactly right. Mine on the front of Thor have been replaced with modern compressor fittings. IIRC there is some issue to do with braking if the correct couplings aren't used, as there needs to be a breather hole so the lorry doesn't think it's on tow? How easy would it be to obtain new rubbers for the original items? Would it just be easier to update to modern ones as long as the airline ends were changed to match? TBH most of the time I don't think they'll be used for trailers etc, so the dummy ends will be in place. DO modern couplings affect the air braking system in any way the originals would not?

Sorry. So many questions, but I have no idea of the differences between old and new. :red:
