  1. I just had a look at my wiring diagrams for the 432, thought there was a pic of the engine services wiring, but all the diagrams seem to be listed as particular curcuit, be it charging or starting etc. Would help to know which actual curcuit is at fault. Regards Dougy
  2. Thank you everyone, I think it might be starting to make sense. If we can just clarify, on Clives table there are 2 each of the 3 types, would it be right to assume that there is still basically 3 "types" and they could be fitted to either mk1's or mk2's. So essentially the same "RR" kit would be fitted to a "mk1" and a "mk2" chassis. Or is it that when it refers to a "mk1" this is the "BRUIN" system and "mk2" is "Ptramigan"? Sorry for being thick! Next if we stick with the RR version. This vehicle would be in touch with Brigade HQ, either by "BRUIN" or "TRIFFID" (depending on era), would it be operating phyically next to the "Exchange" and "Message Centre" ("NODES") vehicles??? and hard wired to them hence the large electrical connections under the armoured shroud? Looking forward to your diagrams Roger. Regards Dougy
  3. Wow Alan, you are coming up with some fab pics. Where are they coming from? who owns them? And you can guess my next question, who would I have to ask to use them on my website? But more to the point what is the last set, have zoomed in and it says FV431? Roger, I have just come across your reply to the sankey communications trailer thread, and you have mention the BRUIN again, which appears to be Larkspur based, would this been superseeded by clansman or should I have entered this thread into the I must be stupid section. Regards Dougy
  4. Hello All, I have one of these trailers that managed to miss the change to the BDRE role. Can't remember the reg number, might be 27FH16, will check. When I got it, it had a frame on the floor and 3 sets of bracing bars and top bracket clamps. It looks like it all held down 3 parts of the same type kit. It also had a pair of penthouse frames. 2 junction boxes inside the roof, one for a mains connection and one to lights to connect, some lights and a mass of what I would call larkspur wiring. Hope this of some interest, can get pics if required. Regards Dougy
  5. That's it I'm definitely confused now If it is in the "Ptarmigan" role was it a "fv439 Ptarmigan" or a "fv432 ptarmigan", and is Ptarmigan the communications station that can connect from mobile phone to larkspur to clansman and broadband, and is it the same kit on the Bedford MJ. If it is a Ptarmigan fv43* did it still have the armoured generators on the roof giving it the same profile as the ones in my pics above. What era would these been in service?? As it seems these vehicles in my pics seem to be fv439 "BRUIN" am I pointing in the right direction?? There has been mention of 3 versions of this vehicle, I only have pics of 2 types, does anyone know what would the 3rd type look like, Roger!!!!? Pic of the NBC housing, only the type with the electrical connection shroud had this, the one with the mast seemed standard. Pic of the modified engine housing panels, Sorry for all the questions, is it just me or is anyone else confused Thanks for everyones input so far, it is all invaluable and appreciated. Regards Dougy
  6. Back again, Roger, I'm afraid I am even more confused than when we started. In laymans terms what is "Bruin" and you refer to RR mode???? Does any one know how the fv439 seems to have been linked to the name Ptarmigan. Richard, I did notice when I was looking at the 439's that their engine panels were different, sure I took some pics of it. Also the type below with the electrical connectors had a completely modified NBC housing. Hopefully these will work This is a pic of the 2 different 439s together This is the one that has the Scam 12 mast rear view of the mast type. This type has a large set of connections under the armoured shroud. This is inside the one with electrical connections, had a couple of what seemed to be teleprinters. Regards Dougy
  7. Hello All, Brilliant!!! Does this mean Fv439 shouldn't be followed by the name Ptarmigan? Trying to remember how to upload pics so you can see the 2 types that I have pics of that seem to match what Roger has stated. Back to the 420 series, apparently they are fv421 Load carrier fv422 APC fv423 Command vehicle fv424 Royal Engineers Section vehicle fv425 REME Section vehicle fv426 Orange William Anti-tank Guided Weapon vehicle Regards Dougy
  8. Hello All, Thanks for all of your replies. Unfortunately I am no nearer to understanding the 439. Is it similar to the Bedford Ptarmigan, which I thought was a means of communicating on all levels from mobile phone to the Army's own Broadband! Mike, thanks for the link to the army recognition website, I'm not sure of how many of the vehicles are actually 439s, they look more like command variants. Alan, great photos, must admit that I haven't bought CMV mag for a long time, but sent the the Girlfriend on a mission when I heard about Geoff's article, very interesting, can't wait for the other episodes. Unfortunatly the pics you have posted are what I believe to be the Fv436 Green Archer and the Fv436 Cymbeline, not a Fv439 Ptarmigan. Clive, Thanks for info, makes some sense to the types I have seen. As for the Fv426. According to the Profile AFV Weapons No 53 the FV432 Series by Christopher Foss, the 426 was the Orange William Anti-tank Guided weapon vehicle. Sorry no pics in there, but some of the Fv421, best described as a Stalwart on tracks! Regards Dougy
  9. Hello Paul, Look forward to having your vehicle details, should be updating in the next couple of days. Regards Dougy
  10. hello all, I am getting ready to send my latest update for my 432 website uploaded for the end of the month. If there are any owners of the 432 family who are interested in having thier vehicle included in the list of owners, could you please send me a couple of pics, the army registration, hull number, and a rough location. Don't worry if you don't make it for this time, I do try update once a month. thanks in advance for any info Regards Dougy
  11. Hello All, I know it's a bit cheeky, but i seem to have got a bit bogged down with my 432 website. When I went to get some pics of the 439, there is obviously two different types. A... Does any one know what the proper description for a 439 is. B... What was it's purpose. C... What is the difference between the two, in as far as what are thier roles. I have asked as I want to get the site as accurate as possible as I seem to be getting a lot of interest nowadays. Thanks in advance for any info. Regards Dougy
  12. Hi Tony, I've made a start...... http://www.fv432.co.uk/wwwfv432couk/registerpages/wherearetheynow.htm If anyone who has any of the 432 family please let me have a picture, military regstration and rough location, so I can get them included. It makes you wonder what happen to all the ones that went trough the tenders. Makes you think that people just bought them on a whim, something has gone wrong and thats it they get forgotten. Or they were broken up for parts for the coporate driving etc. The other problem is just the logistics of them, to actually get them to a show. Mine only went out once this year, just can't justify the costs of transporting. By the way count Dave P and I in for the Plains 2010 Regards Dougy
  13. Hi All You can find some pics I took of the RB44 when i was at the last tender here......... http://www.fv432.co.uk/wwwfv432couk/supportvehiclepages/RB44/rb44titlepage.htm They all looked reasonably complete, but these ones weren't in the actual tender. Regards Dougy
  14. Thanks Everybody, would the smaller two wheel drive ones been M's or did they retain the TK status? Back in the mid 80's we had to rebuild the engines on the MJ's. We had to remove the pistons and fit new rings and deglaze the bores, something to do with that the metal used on the rings was to hard and scoring the bores. Some had to have short motors fitted if they'd gone to far. Still remember the torque settings for most of the bolts, we did so many. We used to get 17hours to do them, and I think we got it down to 4 hours, was good as we were on bonus, and we did it all without taking the cabs off. Regards Dougy
  15. Hi All, Just to let every know the August updates are uploaded. Thanks to everyone who has given positive feedback and pics. Just need some more 43' owners to let me have their details so we can get them on the registration page. Dougy
  16. Hello All, I've watched this thread for a while now, but here's my two pennys worth. The only way to keep a vehicle original is to do absolutely nothing to it. So if a part breaks then surely you can not replace it with a new part, be it after market, OEM or NOS as this would not be 'original'. Then if you repair a part, again this is not original!!! I know of a chap that was restoring an early example of a civilian lorry, sorry can't remember what type. But he has added flitches to strengthen the chassis as he wants to use it when it is done. It was frowned upon by the rivet counters that saw it when he displayed as the restoration progressed. He was just trying to save a vehicle of this type. He had to have wings made by hand, at high expense and tried to get it as close as possible to original. So should he have just left it to rot in a field, and let another already rare example disappear? So back to our military vehicles. I feel that as long as the 'restoration' is sympathic to the vehicle, be it to a standard that portrays it as it came off the production line or after it had 'in field mods to make it more appropiate to the crews needs, then it's your choice. Yes it is better if what ever is done is realistic and age related, so that it shows a fair represenation of the vehicle it is, even if it is a 'wolf' in sheeps clothing, not everyone is in the position to own a real true example! a, there isn't many and b, they cost a fortune! My vehicles are set up with kit and mods that keep the vehicles looking military, from accesories that have come available, for example my lightweight has a hard top fitted, but I use it and I want the security this offers around town, it has range rover diffs because it goes better, and it's 12v but I have fitted wing boxes because I like them!!. :nono:But my pet hate is when you are at a show and you are doing a military display and you have your next door neighbours caravan with a camo net chucked over it as passed of as an officers quarters. Ooops, maybe that three pennys worth! :stop:One other thing, is this 'bowman' sticker only used on bowman equipped vehicles? I ask as my FFR 110 has one fitted and it has only ever been kitted out with clansman! Is it more of a health and safety 'thing?' I even saw a clansman desert coloured wing box in the last withams tender with one on. Dougy :coffee:
  17. Hello All, A few more pics of Bedford MJs can be found here. http://www.fv432.co.uk/wwwfv432couk/supportvehiclepages/Bedfords/BedfordMJpage1.htm Have some of the leylands, but thats a work in progress! Dougy
  18. ((Dougy, The FV432 you have down as a Mk 3 (the one at Withams) is actually a Mk2. It has the K60 pack, steering box etc fitted. It was just built as a demo rig. Chris)) just been checking the website in the internet to check what needs adjusting and found that i had already mentioned this!!!! http://www.fv432.co.uk/wwwfv432couk/432mk3pages/432mk3pic7.htm Dougy
  19. Hello All, Would anybody have any advice on the best line of defence against the onslaught of mould on canvas. I had to put my tents away damp a couple of weekends ago, yesterday I finally got to sort them out and air them. First day that we had decent sun and have been busy moving house! The tent bags have been affected the worst, they have the dreaded white mould on them, but the canvases seem to have escaped with only minor marks. Is there any products out there to 'kill' the mould. was going to steam clean the bags and re-waterproof them. Any suggestions????? Dougy
  20. Hello again, Neil, I think they went away from tillers for good old health and safety reasons. Pop, some 438 pics would be great, well any pics 432 related will be appreciated. Mark, could you email me with what you want on the ad and a pic then I'll put it on site. Might be a week or so as I'm in the middle of moving house, but I'll get it done as soon as poss, as I've got to update the register aswell. Are you selling to fund a Ptarmigan?! Dougy
  21. Hello All, You can see Dave P's 432/30 here...... http://www.fv432.co.uk/wwwfv432couk/variants/Fv432%20Rarden%20Turret.htm Hope this wets the appetite! Dougy
  22. Thanks for the quick feedback, chaps. One of the things i still want to get done is put a little caption by each picture, to point out things like that Chris & just generally mention what I thought was interesting in the picture at the time. But I know it is a minefield out there and I want to avoid putting wrong info on there, but I wanted a bit of substance to it for when I first uploaded the site, so I've let the pictures that I have do the work for now. Hopefully other people who have or have had connections with the 432 will pass on pics, info and expirences that we can use on there. Dougy
  23. Hello All, Just a little update about the website, it's been up and running for a few weeks now, some of you may have already found it. Its starting to take shape, even though we know there are a few teething problems. but we'll get there! Please visit us at www.fv432.co.uk Dougy
  24. Hello Steve, I currently have storage in the Malvern area, but would maybe consider somewhere towards the north of worcs. Especially if power was to hand and undercover, even hardstanding. Would need to be big enough to take a lorry though. Dougy
  25. Hello All, These questions have probably been asked and answered already, but I'm going to ask them again. So your stater for ten..... What is the difference between the MK and MJ? When did they enter service? And your bonus questions...... What about the TL and TM when did they enter service? Thanks in advance Dougy
