Dougy FV432

Where did you cross reference the original pic part number Andy? I've checked the online CES manual, and my own paper copy. The only number I come up with for a fv432 command penthouse tent is this... The main canvas has an separate end section that goes around the rear door... Here is a pic of the actual canvas attached to a fv432... Unless it was a new batch of canvases for the fv432 and they updated the number, I do know that the army was looking for penthouses for the fv432 around about that time, as some had to be specially made for a contract. Looks like a lot of the hard work has been done, can't imagine it was fun making and assembling the tracks etc. They have also done quite an accurate representation of the interior, even down to the struts that support the map board desks. I have a mk2 with some map boards and desks, so can help with that, plus some general ones of the interior and exterior of a mk1. The manuals are also on line that cover the mk1 and a the kit for the command version. Dougy

Not very helpful as I haven't had a fv434 tank out, but I think it is the worst of the fv430 family as it gets itself wedged into the hull of the vehicle because of its shape. Dougy

Here is a short video of how the solenoid should operate, think it may mention the way to free off the sticking rack. If not I'm sure its mentioned in one of my videos. Something went wrong... Dougy

Thanks for your replies, amazing notice of detail from you both to help date it. Can anyone advise of the actual colour it is, picture makes it look more yellow than sand, what would the proper code have been, or would they have been painted locally like they did with the 1st Gulf where as we all know there was a very wide range of desert paint shades used. One other thing, there is a mounting bracket on the commanders cupola, next to the Gpmg mount (i'll try to upload a better pic later) does anyone know what it was for? Tiffy_massive, when were the recognition panels fitted, where they the ones that looked like louvres/slats in a square/rectangle frame and white in colour if I remember correctly? Dougy

Great pic, thanks for sharing. Trying to work out what that is mounted up on the roof, could be the very top of a early Swingfire from the low angle. Driver looks about 10years old! Dougy

Just to add, I've seen in a fv432 manual reference to the fire extinguisher mounts as early as 1994, beacon fitment as 1997, a reference to night heater pipe work in 1994 and SA80 mounts on the engine covers as 1997, rear marker board holders as late as 2004 and rear troop compartment seat belts 2005. Which I was quiet surprised at the wide margin of dates as I always though they were roughly all came in at the same time of about the early 2000s. Dougy

Hello All, Can anyone help identify the date this 432 would have been in service. Some of you may have seen the picture before as it is the one used on wikipedia for the fv432. I'm assuming that it is in Iraq. I would like to try and date it as at some point generally the fv432 went through some major external modifications including exterior stowage roof basket, side stowage box, sabre boxes on the rear ledge, night heater fitment, power tool socket removal, which in a lot of cases became a jump start socket, new rear view mirrors, (which this 432 doesn't have), fire extingusher mounts changed and some had pull out penthouse frames fitted. Do any of you know when the modifications where carried out? Also this vehicle looks like it is still Clansman radio installed. Thanks in advance, Dougy

Hello All, I would imagine that the Clansman radio system saw its last active duty during the second gulf war? but as this is listed as going on from 2003 to 2011 was there a cross over with Bowman? so when did Bowman system see its first active duty and Clansman finish? Dougy

Hello All, Some of you may now me from the fv432 website and forum, and because of this I have been asked if I had some pics of a Bulldog (in action preferably) from the girlfriend of a soldier who served on them in Iraq from 2007-09. I'm guessing that the Bulldog would have been a fully amoured version used between those dates. Unfortunately I haven't, and could only find a couple of low res pics on the internet, but she would like the best quality as possible so that she can get a pic printed and framed for her boyfriends birthday. It would be great if we can find a decent pic for them. Thanks in advance Dougy

Silly question but can't you just fit a standard landrover wiper motor? It looks like from the the pic that there are a pair of braided wires, which could be for radio suppression? All the standard landrover motors I have changed (too many for my liking! Especially if you have to change the cable, wosre still if changing the wheel boxes on a Transit engined 110 with the full dash!) Anyway back to wiper motors, all the ones I've changed they just have one connection plug, undo the mounting bracket. Pull the motor to see the other side and there is a plate held by about half a dozen if that bolts. In there you can disconnect the cable linkage and as far as I can remember the park switch is in there on the gear wheel. Hope this makes sense and is of help. Dougy
