  1. Has anyone else tried this product, 'CombiPrimer', for overcoming poor adhesion by paint to certain surfaces ? I reskinned a similar cab to Will's Albion using galvanized sheet and, after degreasing, applied this stuff which dries leaving a tacky film to which an undercoat of paint will bond. I think it's suitable for most types of paint, and in every case where I've used it, has successfully endured over many years. Rust-Oleum is the brand, it's not a rust treatment. I think it's called an adhesion primer....... I would have thought most proper paint shops sell/could get it. http://www.colglo.co.uk/products.php?cIndex=942_944_945_949
  2. Looking very nice indeed. I see, on your post 949,you've got her rear end up on blocks at the moment. What work are you doing ?
  3. Welcome to the forum Steve. I've learnt so much from talking to ex servicemen. It usually starts, "I drove one just like that". Great stuff ! It would be nice to see a few 'photos of your MV posted on the forum when you have the time. Cheers.
  4. Matt, thank you for sharing the brilliant 'photos you've recently posted. Here's a picture, taken about eight years ago, of your mate's Doris while she was owned by 'Matador' Mick of Bolton.
  5. A while ago, I was told about someone who rigged up powerful air horns on his truck and blew them, showing off to his passenger, while driving through the tunnel just the other side of Newport on the M4 and, by the end of the tunnel, he had lost all his air. I don't really know if this was just 'driver talk' or a true story.
  6. Today, I had the privilege of having a visit from Scammell enthusiast and forum member, Andy Fowler. What a nice bloke. Andy turned out to be what I call a natural born Scammell driver, immediately bonding with the Constructor, and driving it impeccably. Thanks, Andy, for grinning all day, for being a charming companion and making it such a brilliant days drive in the countryside. You are always welcome down here. Here's a few pix with Andy and his Scammell grin.
  7. Will, I think you could well be right. I've only ever seen these brackets on early, fixed side, cargo Militants photographed from the driver's side. It's never occurred to me that there might be a corresponding pair of brackets on the N/S as well. Later Militant MK 1's, as you know, had brackets fitted to the very front of the cargo bodies for carrying hoops. As you can see, these front of body brackets are absent on this early cargo Militant. Thanks for sorting that out.
  8. Sorry Will, until I read your more detailed description, I didn't even notice those ruddy great things on either side of the cab ! I've always wondered what was the purpose of these smaller brackets are that were sometimes fitted, between the lower handle and the guttering, on the rear corner of Militant Mk 1 cabs. Does anyone know ? I'll keep my eyes peeled for an Edbro !
  9. I hope they don't have the same handbrake that I have on my Series 2A.
  10. Thank you very much indeed ! An excellent picture and what a lovely trailer. Seeing this has cheered me up for the whole day. Have you owned your Scammell for very long ?
  11. Welcome to the forum Barra. Restoration threads are always keenly followed and we like trailers. Looking forward to your trailer thread joining the other trailer Blogs already on here. Great 'photos of Gaz. Thanks.
  12. Welcome to the forum xsk460. It would be great to see a few more 'photos, and some history, of your magnificent Explorer on the Scammell Explorer thread when you have the time. Cheers. http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=7057
  13. Would you tell him my digital taco keeps jamming in the slot.......I'm not really complaining.....he only charged me a fiver. No problems with the licence so far.
  14. Thanks for the update Younggun. I'm pleased to hear a horn assembly is on it's way and that both air, and oil, pressures are where they should be. Things are looking good !
  15. Thank you Safariswing. It seems spiders & crawlers are particularly keen on Scammell Explorers and that probably accounts for the Explorer thread attracting vastly more views than other threads in the same section.
  16. What some people are saying, as I understand it, is that one can't, on one's own judgement alone, declare one's vehicle to be exempt, for this reason or that, unless the vehicle is clearly, beyond doubt, exempt in a way acceptable to the authorities. It's not enough to believe one has found a loophole and to go out on the road hoping for the best.
  17. Oh, thanks, I think I understand. When I see, for example, that the Scammell Explorer thread is credited with over 33,000 views that total is accounted for mostly by me, Andy Fowler and a few others viewing the same stuff over, and over, and not the entire population of Finland checking out the latest Explorer stuff on a daily basis. Cheers.
  18. When a thread accumulates a number views what does that actually tell us ? If, say, a thread has 100 views, does that mean that 100 different individuals have viewed that thread, or could it be just the same 10 people returning to view the same thread 10 times each ? Thanks.
  19. This is probably one of the most profound questions ever to have be asked on this, or any other, forum. What I would say is that we should feel ourselves fortunate that, thus far, the Euroweasels in Brussels have not yet set some Europe wide standard of restoration that we must all abide by. Until they do, we can all please ourselves. Praise the Lord. :yay:
  20. Good luck with this. Although, I'm unlikely to become in involved in this particular project, I think it's an excellent idea and wish you all the best in making it happen. I think forum members could be thinking of other ways of making our mark, outside of the forum, to our mutual benefit.
  21. Welcome to the forum Donald. Other sizes that may interest people on this forum would be 1200 X 20 and 1500 X 20 bar grips as well as the 1400 X 20's that Swill1952 has already mentioned. Knowing the available ply ratings might be helpful. Cheers.
