  1. Thanks again. Do I need to move this discussion over to the motorcycle section?

It's entirely up to you. Members who are interested in motorcycles might not think to look here so, yes, why not start your own thread in the MC section ? When you get the time, please post some more photographs of your Triumph. Thanks.

  2. Said to have been 246 built, the majority going to NZ.

"Said to have been 246 built, the majority going to New Zealand". If that is true, then our Kiwi brothers have another 200 or so Explorers hidden away that they're keeping quiet about. I wonder if it's about time an Official Forum Expedition was sent to NZ to see exactly what's going on.

  3. According to Kevin they had Rolls Royce engines Tom !

Of course they've got Rolls Royce engines. Everyone knows that. I was just seeing if you were paying attention. Personally, I feel the Kiwis should return these Explorers to the Land of Pom so that we can properly examine them. (we'd give 'em back, honest):-D

Is there any limit to the amount of misinformation within military vehicle reference books ? I thought *** ** *** by *** **** was bad enough but it now seems others are at it. I think I might write a "Definitive Guide to Military Vehicles" myself and just make up all the facts and figures as I go along.

  4. A Coles crane? Sad to see it in this state. Retrievers are rare and well worth being saved.

Hanno, this is the nearest I've got. A Crossley with a Coles MkV1, 2 ton crane. I think the Leyland would have had a very similar crane. It certainly is the same scale of vehicle as the Retriever. Someone may have a photograph showing a Leyland Retriever with a crane mounted on the back.

  5. When I first saw this lorry, some eight or so years ago, it was fairly up together and had it's crane mounted on the back. It looked really sweet. The crane is no longer there, possibly, hopefully, being restored elsewhere. The overall condition has worsened after having been standing in the open for so long. It's in a yard on a trading estate in Devon. There can't be many of this type of lorry that have survived. I wonder what it's fate will be.

By the way, your correspondent had to wrestle with half a dozen ferocious guard dogs to take these photographs. I just thought I'd let you know. :box:

  6. Sorry looking Volvo was sheeted up ten years ago when I moved to Lincolnshire, and I first spotted it, but in the passing years the sheet has rotted off and the Volvo has gone into serious decline. I spoke to the ownner at the weekend, but got the usual, It's not high on my priorities, I haven't really thought what I am doing with it, it isn't hurting stood there cr&p, It nneds saving but I guarantee it will be rust in ten years time....

People like that, after having their vehicles put into care, should be placed on a special register.
