  1. You are most welcome. Thank you for the many interesting posts you have put on this forum. Very much appreciated.
  2. Thank you to forum members for their valiant efforts in trying to squeeze a bit of humour out of not very promising material. The main thing going on here was me recycling a caption competition that appeared in 'Truck and Driver' magazine in June 1997. I entered the competition, came second and got a mention in the next issue but not the £25. I have a few more photographs of this lorry and I'll post them on the Militant thread sometime. Cheers.
  3. Hi Ted, it's only the copyright issue. I don't mind infringing so called Crown Copyright but because this picture is the work of a living artist ...... anyway it looks wonderful on your post. I'm still trying to get these data sheets in order and will post in the next few hours. Many thanks for your website suggestions, I'll be following them up. Now these data sheets..... http://www.raf-lichfield.co.uk/No%202%20M.T%20Gallery.htm
  4. Blimey Ted, I didn't realize anyone was actually looking at any of this stuff. I'll post the data sheets you have requested later this evening.
  5. Brooky, thanks for posting the picture. That's a really pretty lorry but like the Bedford OXC it doesn't, to me, look man enough to tow a laden "Queen Mary" trailer. Imagine driving this Commer up a steep hill on a hot summers day with a QM and Lancaster Bomber fuselage section on the back. Here's the same Commer type 'Q' tractor shown coupled to a Tasker Short High Loading trailer. And, believe it or not...here coupled to a Tasker Long High Loading trailer. (What did you do in the war Dad ? "Oh, thinking up trailer discriptions down at the Tasker factory....it was hard work but someone had to do it")
  6. A very interesting video, thanks Roland. It would be nice to see a few photographs of the AEC on the Militant thread sometime. Are you able to find spare parts, if needed, for the Militant in Germany ? So many were based there, are there any left in Germany in ex.military surplus yards ? Cheers.
  7. I experienced something like this with my 2A when the front wheels would sort of "flutter" after hitting a pothole. I think, as others are suggesting, you have to work your way right through the whole system eliminating any wear or embalance. I'm surprised the MOT didn't reveal the cause or that you're not also having irregular tyre wear. I cured my one with new wheel bearings. Drives straight as an arrow now.
  8. And very welcome on here. It seems to me that you have what I call "The Right Attitude".
  9. Ruxy, ignore fv1609 and don't feel pressured into "coming out" if you don't feel quite ready to admit that you have a very heavy Lightweight habit. Some people can get by for a very long time and lead a fairly normal life, even holding down a job, while owning only one Lightweight. However, for certain genetically predisposed individuals the effect of one Lightweight soon wears off and they find that two, three or more, are needed just to feel "normal". (PS. Just between you and me, have you got more than ten ?)
  10. Brillant ! Thanks Les. It's a pity you're not running the country Les.......it would be a very much better place if you were.
  11. One isn't always so fortunate. You could just as easily have found those brake drums full of mud and so badly corroded that they were unserviceable. This trailer actually has quite an elegant chassis/frame. Have you made contact with forum member ackack who is currently restoring a similar/identical trailer ? Thanks for posting the pix.
  12. Now that would look good. Did they ?
  13. Thank you Gritineye. Compelling evidence. I actually have this film on DVD but it's a while since I last viewed it and I didn't notice the great similarity between these bogie trailers and the one Antony has. Antarmike suggested these multi-wheel trailers could be used both as bogies, and as a single trailer, in an earlier post. All we need now is a nice period photograph of a Stuart Tank sitting on one these trailers and everyone is happy.
  14. It's certainly got quite a bulbous cowling. This isn't one of those quizzes. I'm asking because I'd be interested to know.
