  1. Thanks for the last photo that matches that in my photo.
  2. Such a fine looking Austin Tilly would be very welcome at Capel MV show 2023!
  3. IMHO the producers tried hard as they could to use WW2 looking vehicles, even if a few Reo 6x6s got sneaked in to he German convoys. It was much better than 1960s when the 'German Panzers' were always M48 or M60s and painted drain pipe grey while depicting Normandy 1944, or every German truck was also grey with an enormous cross on the cab door, as seen in no WW2 photographs!
  4. Thanks Ted, I guess there must have been several versions of the WOT 1 6x4, as all the photos of such vehicles I can find with rounded rear wheel arches don't have such a pronounced edge running round the wheel arch, and many seem to have more of a arched roof? Perhaps they are all Office or crew bus types?
  5. The photo I have attached in from circa 1942, and shows an RAF Squadron or Desert Air Force airfield, moving up nearer the front, after an Allied advance, probably post El Alamain. Can anyone identify the six wheeled Ambulance in the centre of the photo? Thanks in advance, Larry
  6. I saw this in a search for something else Website dedicated to a variety of manuals in PDF This might be of use to HMVF members, but I have no need for my more common Lwt Albion Truck Service Manuals, Wiring Diagrams - trucksfreemanuals And not just Albion; many other makes too like Austin.
  7. Very true. So easy to think it existed only in May 1940! And of course a proper look at the photo says 1944 on its history board attached to the front.
  8. No need for apologies. Its the vehicle owner that needs to explain. It is so easy to be mistaken as he may have been sold it as a 1939 truck
  9. Thanks for the warning over polarity and also Clive I have got an inline fuse ready. It now troubles me as to how to get the polarity right! What to use and how to test it?
  10. Great thanks; such choice I never knew existed! I presume they are a good fit for my Lwt as some connects from my box of bits are too lose, and others are too wide?
  11. In the front of my Lwt is an electric socket (+ and - only), which I think was intended for a vehicle inspection lamp. I want to use the supply for other purposes like phone and satnav etc and I just need some suitable pin connectors for my wiring. At one time Halfords had a big range but its like they sell toys now not vehicle spares! So what have you got that would be suitable rather than an old nail !
  12. You may be right, as an amplifier making it a PRC 352 would have been an easy option. I know my Lwt was built as a 12 v GS but it has been special modified with support brackets on each side of the rear tub to hold the 'diagonal' support for the dexion. These are secured by four bolts each side. These brackets are quite rare but I have seen them drawn in an Army pamphlet. Also there are clips in and under the vehicle to hold the cable to the Tuam in place. There is no evidence of a radio table in the rear. The Lwt was used by the 7th (Para) Royal Horse Artillery from 1984 to 1990 which had 105mm guns towed by 1 ton FC Landrovers. From my own service I know that battery and troop commanders used to insist on a FFR and disliked the Lwt FFR as there was very little living space in the back. I has been suggested that vehicles with a radio were reserved for important persons. If we discount Officers with an FFR and Reme LAD with a 109 inch LR , or cooks with another 109, that leaves a jerry rigged GS Lwt with 351 or 352 to the Padre and his driver? Also a Lwt is rather small to carry a load of urgently needed 105 mm shells to a position unless an extra two would suffice for now! Incidentally the aerial leads box I was trying to identify was still attached to the offside front wing when it was cast!
  13. Thanks all for the info. The one you describe Clive must be the later more sophisticated version. The one on my Lwt might therefore be a left over from the Larkspur kit, which my RE(V) unit only got rid off in 1980 so I guess there was old bits still good enough to use, especially as my Lwt was specially modified as a 12v GS to carry a dexion mouted manpack and wing mounted aerial.
  14. You are doing a great job with tyres for many owners of WW2 era vehicles, that weren't even 40 years old when I joined the MVCG. Now my LR Lwt is nearing 42 years old and like many Lwt owners we could do with some 6.50 x 16 tyres with the typical MOD tread. I forget the tyre designation now. Was it Michelin XZL? It been so long since I have seen any! Sadly we all have to use larger 7.50 x 16 such as Deestone but I am told such larger tyres were NEVER fitted by the British Army. So I'm told these 6.50 x 16 tyres in the exact size and tread pattern are made in the far east but not available here in the UK. So I understand these 6.50 tyres need inner tubes but not being a tyre specialist dont know if they are available or need sourcing with the tyres. Could you possibly help?
  15. Dont forget the 105mm howitzer or Rapier set too! See you there next year!
  16. I think comments from many who attended, that Capel show may become the new War and Peace show are very encouraging, and the organisers were well pleased with the turn out and variety of vehicles. However, this may mean more fields, and the heli field is the obvious choice if the local farmers cannot oblige. As a Lwt Landrover owner and attendee, I like WW2 vehicles rather than a show just of LRs and these WW2 oldies were quite large in number at Capel. I was speaking with the organisers about suggested improvements and said that they perhaps need to think of ways of informing MV owners that their turn in the arena is near. On the Saturday I turned up for my slot on time only to be told it was 30 mins earlier. (It wasn't and they were mistaken). I appreciate schedules run late but not earlier than programmed. Apparently the show organisers hadn't had enough money for a PA system, but even a guy or girl with a megaphone might help. The show organisers have no intention of charging £.. hundreds to attend, but really appreciate owners agreeing to arena participation. It makes for an interesting show for the public, if the commentator has lots to discuss.
  17. Yes agreed. I went with my friend for three days and it is really much bigger and better than my visit pre covid. Also some rare vehicles on show and i took 200 photos of all I could find including this Canadian Dodge;
  18. On the front offside wing of my 1980 Lwt' behind the Tuam box for the Clansman 351 aerial was a little box, which I guess was 4 inches approx square, that holds the aerial wires, when the Tuam aerial box is removed. Mine has rusted away at the hinge and I need to know the name of it, or the part number as I need to find one. It had 2 screw type clips at the front and was hinged at the rear, and far more '1980s' than later ones seen on an LR wolf. Any help gratefully received.
  19. Interesting that a Carrier is on a trailer pulled by what appears to be a current Military vehicle, so is it on its way to or from some Army event, like the Edinburgh Tattoo or Jubilee celibration?
  20. It seems there are even newer rules for number plates, but are those that require UK instead of GB and the plate makers details added just for NEW vehicles or NEW plates or all existing vehicles?. At the moment my LWT , which is 1980 built and on Historic status, has the 'white' front and yellow rear plates on it, since it left service in 1991 and entered the civi market. I have not messed with the spacing of the letters and in any case I change to the Military HG plates at shows, and civi ones for the road. I don't have any other marking or details on it so is it still legal? I have no intension of going abroad with it. Is it still legal?
  21. For any members - check opening times - as they open just at weekends for now
  22. Thanks for the info - I will pay them a visit to day or tomorrow
  23. Well, is there anyone in London area collecting this sort of stuff? My smaller military collection could still equip an couple of soldiers I guess
