  1. If I remember right service brown was used alone pre-war, so for a 1938/39 vehicle that would be right.
  2. Anglia Radiators in Cambridge have been recommended to me several tines. I used them earlier in the year but haven't had the chance to test the results yet.
  3. How do you check the governor oil? It's not a task I've ever done.
  4. Ah, probably not then although it has opened my eyes to the 17 pounder. Thanks anyway.
  5. Is there any chance of getting the dimensions of the boxes so I can see if they fit a stowage point on my truck?
  6. Wow, that's really interesting. The CMP FAT/FGT with the boxes on the back would tie in nicely with the development of the limberless / FGT that I have (which is a bit of a mystery). I assume this is late war?
  7. Be careful about posting personal info like telephone numbers on the internet - that might be better on a pm rather than a post that everyone can see (you might get lots of spam text messages or idiotic phone calls)
  8. Is the radio suppression using capacitors? If so they may be worth checking at their age, in case they've failed and start to short circuit (and it's a lot easier to do now instead of on the side of the road)
  9. You should regularly check : Steering box oil (under the nipple on the front glacis plate) Engine oil (left of drivers position, check the level with engine running) Gearbox oil (left of commanders position under flap) Coolant (under the disk in the middle of the engine air leuvres) Final drive oil (disk on front of the drive assemblies just behind the drive sprocket) Track tension (you should have about a clenched fist distance between track and hull in the middle of the droop, if not theres a grease nipple on the back of the piston pushing the rear roller out) Hub oil (jack up each wheel and rotate until the arrow on the hub is upwards, then remove the large nut on the upper right of the hub and the oil should be level with the hole)
  10. I'd vote for SCC2 brown as the likely source as well. Keep in mind that the paint finish has a massive effect. It looks slightly glossy in you picture which may be causing it to look darker. Try some matt varnish or a light sanding before you right it off as too dark.
  11. I did! There was a nice chap at the Duxford show a couple of years back who had one, and he loved it.
  12. Zil 131 is probably the best drive that I'd rate. It feels very smooth, comfortable and easy on the road. It's a big old beast to park up though.
  13. RB44s are reasonably priced at the moment as a fair number have been made available. At the end of the day though, I'd go with whatever takes your fancy. I had all sorts of plans for my first MV that went out of the window when I saw the CMP. It's not practical or easy, but it does put a big smile on my face when I see it (and a bigger smile when I go somewhere and get home again )
  14. I think it's more likely to be male. The navigator cant see where he's going and neither he or the driver can ask for directions.
  15. I can put you in touch with the folks at Duxford if you like - I'm sure they'd love it.
  16. Awesome, thanks for that. This looks like the people. http://www.holman-engineering.co.uk
  17. Mac's are good. I tend to stock up on a stash of common parts/consumables as international postage is expensive mind you. Its expensive for a single component.
