Here are a couple of pics from Fred's time in the RHA in his Sexton and with the commanders Cromwell, he told us about one practice where he spent nearly 16 hours on maneuvers to get to the range under blackout conditions and as they stopped to fire he dozed off, slept through the firing and had to be shaken awake to drive again. How you sleep with a 25 pounder going off next to you I don't know. Steve

I know a few of my friends have had these problems recently while swapping to the longer lifed silicone fluid in classic cars, I just wish the people who rebuild the cylinders would say what fluid resistant seals they put in at the time, had it with light aircraft as well. Steve

He did a short book of his life a couple of years ago I'll have a look to see if he still has his pictures scanned in and will let me post them. Steve

A friend quoted setting them up at 0.014" when cold and it should sit nicely at 0.012" when warm, haven't tried it but when I put the engine back together it's the way I'm going to try. Steve

As Lauren says it's the Shuttleworth Collection's Fordson WOT2H complete with a light warning (early radar) body but unlike the one dawnpatrol on here restored it seems to have never been fitted out inside and without the roof hatch for the aerial. Steve

The airshow was blighted by the weather which put pay to the first world war and some of the inter war aircraft flying but did get off to a good start with a beat up by a Bf109 Buchon, then followed by displays from the collection's PO2, sea Hurricane, piston provost, Gloster Gladiator, Hawker Hind, Demon and the fighter collection's Nimrod. The Hangar 11 P51 Mustang and Consolidated Catalina from duxford also visited before the show was finished with the DH88 Comet. Sadly I was busy during the flying so here are some pictures of the MVs who turned up to support the show despite the showers. Thank you to the forum members and the Huntingdonshire MVT for coming and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and we can keep building things up and you are all welcome again. Steve

Thanks for bringing the MW to the show it looked fantastic in the line up, and it was good to have the WOT next to it to show not everything was built abroad. Cheers Steve

I guess the main traders would do it or know who they send it to, from past experience with other vehicles if you get Rex Ward of DUKW/GMC fame to look at it, you'll have a proper job done. Steve

That is true, the failures I've heard of have mainly been on 2 strokes, so totally different running conditions (high revs, low mass compared to the plodding Dodge engine) as I say until I get the front end apart and get the engine into a stand I'm just figuring numbers, just wish it hadn't happened while my right wrist is buggered. I had heard a rumour this was happening I hope the plans to keep a museum on site work out for you all. Steve

The internal on the conrod doesn't look that bad but I'll measure up with a decent intenal micrometer once we've cleaned it up but con rods are easy enough to get hold of, it's only the crank (and a decent build stand) that are difficult to get my hands on. I'm not sure about the building up of the journal and re grinding idea as I've heard of it going wrong later down the years and i'd rather just do the engine once. Has anyone else had experience of having a Journal rebuilt up? Thanks for all the advice everyone Steve
