  1. Well true to form the battle bus has come through and arrived earlier despite some problems in London earlier, once we unloaded it I took the oppertunity to grab some pictures of the bus with some comtempories, if this weather carries on it's going to be a great day. Steve
  2. I'm really looking forward to getting all of these lined up as it is going to be fantastic and there will be a parade of as many of the vehicles as we can before the flying starts, tickets really are selling well and I doubt if there will be many available on the day so if you want to see this amazing gathering please book. http://Www.shuttleworth.org/militaryww1/ Steve
  3. Fantastic, really impressive bit of kit but it'll never sneak up on anyone. Well done for keeping it crawling about. Steve
  4. A little heads up for everyone the tickets for the show are selling rediculously fast now and if anyone who isn't a member of the SVAS (the volunteer association) wants to get a ticket I stongly advise buying in advance to guarantee entry, it's cheaper in advance too. SVAS members will be able to buy tickets in advance with their valid membership card on the day at £18. Hopefully tomorrow some of the ground based acts will start to arrive so I'll take some pics for you all to see. Steve
  5. Strictly speaking it's early 20's but I still count it although we tend to only use it on the Hind and Demon now as with the idle times of the WW1 types the hucks can take too long to get out of the way. 6. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Shuttleworth, this is shaping up to be something special. Steve
  7. Don't forget the Tate & Lyle McCurd and the Collection's Crossley to add to the list, really looking forward to this I'll be on site from about half 7 sorting out how we can display this amazing event, hoping to put the Sopwith Camel in your midst. Thank you for all the sorting out you have done Steve
  8. Well progress at last, I've finally managed to borrow a stand and we have the engine out, I've got everything off the block now just need to reposition the engine in the stand after removing the bell housing so I can remove the front mount and timing cover. While removing parts I've noticed some badly finished items such as the counter balance on the crankshaft and the oil pump body I guess this was "just enough" finishing from the factory as there are no rub marks but it's interesting to see the mind set 70 years ago. Steve P.s. These engines are bloody heavy.....
  9. I missed last year so the last time I went was the national show 2 years ago so numbers were definately down compared to that but there seemed to be a good number and a good range of vehicles to me. Steve
  10. Great find, really like the reclamation video. Steve
  11. So far I'm told that we have got these beauties booked in; Crossley tender and recovery trailer with Phelon and Moore Motorcycle, B type bus, D type vauxhall, Albion 32 HO, Hallford, Dennis, two AEC Y types, Nash Quad, Liberty B and Fiat 15TER, They are expecting the replica WW1 MKIV tank, Crossley from the RAF Museum and Maudsley lorry as well as the Collection's Crossley and the based McCurd lorry as well as the based Ford Model T Hucks starter. Add the based aircraft to this list and I think this show could be something really special. All of the displays at Old Warden are so much closer than you see at other shows as Mike says, and I'll admit I'm biased but the atmosphere is one of the best things about the Collection and we are hoping to try and put our Sopwith Camel replica on the field with the vehicles with plenty of space around them for photos. See you there Steve
  12. Hi just thought I'd put a thread on here about the upcoming Military pageant at the Shuttleworth collection in Bedfordshire, http://www.shuttleworth.org/events/militaryww1/ The show this year has a WW1 element again with our Bristol F2B Fighter carrying out a poppy drop and with the help of some of this forum's members there is the possibility of seeing 15 original WW1 vehicles, a replica MKIV tank as well as all of the collection's WW1 aircraft in what I think will be a amazing sight. For people who like their aircraft a bit more metallic the Bristol Blenheim MK1 will be displaying as will 2 spitfires and the Avro Vulcan will be carrying out what will probably be it's last display at Old Warden with it's planned retirement later this year. Photos from the previous WW1 gathering can be seen in this thread http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?45726-Shuttleworth-Collection-WW1-airshow&highlight=shuttleworth Hope to see some of you there Steve
  13. It is a huge shame to hear this is happening and I hope that the rapid change from plans for a couple of more shows to this is the last one isn't down to any health problems for any of the organisers, planning and running the show must take so much time, stress and frustration they should be applauded for all of their hard work and I hope the weather allows this year to be the best show ever. p.s I quite like both sites but the hop farm has a special attraction due to the banking by the arena and the site felt more cosy. Steve
  14. On the 12th of June we were invited to pop up and see a friend of a friend who was a Sherman command tank driver during the second world war reunited with a sherman for the first time in 70+ years, Arthur thoroughly enjoyed himself so thank you to everyone involved and here are a few pics from the weekend. Steve
  15. Welcome in and good luck getting the WOT back on the road Steve
  16. We'll be up with the jeep on friday, and back again on sat with the jeep and halftrack. On friday I'm hoping to get there in time to see a sherman veteran we met a few weeks ago catch up with Armourgedon's sherman. Steve
  17. Cheers Gas 44 I'll keep you in mind, and having driven with some of the Hunts MVT I can agree they like to use their vehicles in the way they were designed. Don't forget about Wickstead Park this weekend if you find yourself lost of something to do I'll be up there on saturday with my uncle's jeep and halftrack. Plus there is a beer festival on site :cool2: Cheers Steve
  18. Did you give the paint a really good mix? The heavy pigment can settle in the can but matching olive drab is near impossible as everyone has their own opinion as to what is correct. Paint fades over time aswell as I'm finding with my dodge as I have the paint we used 5 years ago and the 'newly applied' paint is much greener than the 5 year old weathered paint. Steve
  19. The guys I know from Sywell are part of the MVT but the times we've been out with them we've just got on with it but I do know of people who are of the view that anymore than 3 vehicles constitutes a convoy and yada, yada, yada. If we go on group runs we avoid busy times, allow plenty of time in case of breakdowns and plan out who needs to stay behind with sick vehicles so we don't fill lay bys up. Hope to see you all about at some point and if we need some more WW2 vehicles at the Shuttleworth Collection I may come asking what you have and if you'd be interested? Steve
  20. Fantastic, great to see a balloon truck getting the attention it deserves, my grandmother and great aunt used to assemble the balloons at Cardington in Bedfordshire. Steve
  21. This is what causes me so much trouble I'm volunteering at the collection's edwardian flying display where I might get the chance to drive one of the edwardian cars again, last time was a 1912 Wolseley which has been on site for 103 years, If anyone is in the area http://www.shuttleworth.org/events/edwardian/ Anyway I don't want to hijack gas 44's thread, what vehicles have your group got down in Luton? Steve
  22. Hi I'm up in Biggleswade with a WC54 currently rebuilding the engine but we also have a 1941 M3 halftrack, 1942 Ford GPW and a 1944 BSA Parabike, I know of another WC54 and a WC52 very close to Luton, mostly I am over at the Shuttleworth collection helping on the aircraft and vehicles there. Also there is a good sized group I know in Sywell Northampton way and another out Huntingdon way which we tag along with sometimes. Steve
  23. Glad he has one now, isn't always the way with a 'simple job' you take one bit off then the next, then............. :red: Steve
  24. Glad to hear he still has a drive to keep improving the place, when I booked the ambulance in years ago he was telling me how much he wanted one. The hangar dance in the blister hangar was great fun, really need to go back at some point. Steve
  25. Glad you had good weather for it, I really like Debach have they had the opportunity to restore anymore of the buildings? I was last there in 2006 I think and there were remains of a Cletrac sitting around, is it still there? Steve
