  1. Thank you for your comments Richard. I appreciate that these locks were probably not fitted to the switch panels in service, after all, it would make sense not to, especially with the multiple variations of locks and keys available. Whether during service or retrospectively, these types of locks have been fitted to Champs (Switch panel & Toolbox/Lockers) and other FV vehicles using the same switch panel. It also appears that they have been fitted to door handles either on cabs and/or box bodies. I have attached a photo of some strung tags that I have attached to some FV keys. The Austin Champ tag and the Humber Wireless one both appear to have the Military Registration Numbers written on them so it would appear that these were either still in service or had not long been released from it. These FV lock barrels are, as far as I can tell, unique to Military Vehicles and don't appear to be used in any other vehicle application (Car/Commercial). If these were not fitted in service, I cannot understand why the lock manufacturer would design and produce tooling for these unless there was a substantial demand, the MOD would surely fit this criteria. Regards, Ian.

  4. Hello all, I would like to increase my knowledge of this series of locks/keys. These can be fitted to many classic British FV series vehicles including the AEC Militant (Mk1), Alvis Saracen, Austin Champ, Daimler Ferret and others. I have information on the following; FV6, FV11, FV16 and FV18 but I would like to know if there were any others? I know that there is an FV7 series but so far I've not been able to find any locks/keys from this range. Does anyone have or know of any FV locks or keys from the FV7 series or any other unusual numbers? Any help with this request would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ian.

    FV16 Key Tag

Hello All, I recently acquired an assortment of FV locks and keys, some of which still had card tags attached listing vehicle details. One in particular has an alloy tag with F.A.D.810.C stamped onto it. Does anyone have any idea what this might mean? Ian
  14. Hello All, I know that this is an old thread but I thought that I'd give it a bit of an update. I was at the Dunsfold Wings & Wheels airshow at the weekend and one of the exhibitors was the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group. A charitable organisation, They plan to have a Typhoon airworthy within a decade. I wish them all the success with the project because like many others, I would love to see one in the air. To satisfy your curiosity, have a look at their website. www.hawkertyphoon.com Ian.
  15. Hello All, I've just acquired this British gas mask bag from my dad which he uncovered during a recent clear out. Apparently he used it when he was a boy for keeping sandwiches in when he went fishing and again for this purpose when he first started work. It's dated 1941 and I believe that it's a Mk6 type but I will leave that for someone with more knowledge than me to confirm. I would like to locate the correct type of mask and accessories for the bag so if anyone can help me identify what should be in the bag and how it was packed that would be appreciated. Thanks, Ian.
  16. Hello All, Upon removing a large plate that had been welded onto the floor/tunnel of my Jeep I was greeted with this sight! Does anyone have a scrap Jeep body with a salvageable tunnel suitable to repair this section? Any assistance is appreciated. Ian.
  17. Hello All, I'm looking for an outer windscreen frame suitable for a 1943 Willys MB and a set of combat rims(5). I don't mind if the windscreen frame needs a bit of work as long as it's straight and not rotten. Any help with locating these parts would be appreciated. Thanks, Ian.
  18. Hello all, I've just acquired what appears to be an unrestored Pyrene fire extinguisher, dated 3.44. It looks to be painted brown (photos attached). Many of these that you see around now are highly polished brass but I think it's unlikely that they were like this when used in military service during the war. Were these usually painted a standard colour in service? Ian.
  19. Hello Doug, I've attached some photos I took a few years ago of the interior of the Dorchester at the Royal Signals Museum which may be of interest regarding interior colour. I have also read somewhere that British armour usually had a white painted interior. If this is true, then I don't think that it would be out of place for the Dorchester to have had the same. You're making good progress, keep up the good work. Ian.
  20. Hello All, Does anyone know what type of locks & keys, if any, were used on the Bedford RL and Green Goddess? Thanks, Ian.
  21. There is an organisation called 'The People's Mosquito' that plans to do just that. http://www.peoplesmosquito.org.uk/
  22. Hello All, I'm looking to increase the range of FV keys that I can cut to code but to do this I need to obtain locks and keys from the various different series. I believe that there are several different FV series used on vehicles like the Mk1 AEC Militant and some Daimler Ferrets for example. Militant (FV6 & FV11)?? Ferret (FV7)?? I am appealing to fellow members for help with this by either selling or lending me spare FV locks or keys. Over to you. Thanks, Ian.

  24. Hello All, Following on from my previous posts on this subject, I am now in a position to cut keys to code for most of the FV16 series. I have acquired quite a few NOS barrels and some original keys. In the absence of original keys, new aftermarket blanks will be used. I can offer complete lock sets or individual barrels if you have mismatched locks on your vehicle.(Subject to stock) Please PM me with any questions and/or your requirements. Ian.
  25. LRX 784 is alive and well and fully resplendent in post war RAF colours. Here is a photo I took at a show a couple of years ago. Ian.
