  1. Wasn't a tiger turret found when widening the Warsaw-Berlin road, having being mounted as a fixed defence, a few years ago?
  2. Ah, Polish artillery fire plan maps! I was thinking that the building looked like a church as well - massive masonary and not aligned to the later street plan trevor
  3. I played around with streetview a bit, but there are so many buildings and trees that block the view. However, I laid the original on this and the peaks seem to line up fairly well, given that different lenses were used on the two cameras. It is on today's Via Vincenzo Grosso, not far from route 6.
  4. How about your own electric furnace: http://bodgesoc.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/heat-treatment-furnace.html trevor
  5. So, first for the gunner, and then later for the gunner's daughter? trevor
  6. Is that 'pownder' as in 'own'? trevor
  7. Ah, Bannermans, from the internet I can see they sold guns very similar to yours - it would be interesting to peruse some old catalogues to see if they did appear and when. trevor
  8. I once found an old black and white film showing the elusive 25 panda gun in action, but I cannot seem to find it now. trevor
  9. Is this the one: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?52846-Leyland-Hippo-for-sale-or-will-get-cut-up-in-10-days-time!!!&p=463326#post463326 trevor
  10. Yes, looks like very narrow bars on the tire - and that is a fine pair of Quads following behind! Are the Z number plates standard for the army? trevor
  11. Hi Geoff, welcome. Feel free to post a picture of your bike, we all enjoy pictures! trevor
  12. As there are several such guns in such a 'small' area, it suggests that they may have been imported together. In which case, might one of the owners be the importer or have purchased their gun from the importer? trevor
  13. It is coming on nicely! What tyres would have been fitted originally, did the Irish Army have a preference at the time? trevor
  14. Hi Dan, I suspect that the temperatures might go way beyond the limits of Belzona, and it is a pretty tough environment in the cylinder with its pressure waves, combustion, scraping and so on. However, if you happened to know someone with a similarly pitted engine of no particular value that you could try it on, I would be interested to see the results. trevor
  15. And with gearboxes, plural, for the use of, one is as rich as Croesus! trevor
  16. So I assume that the air cylinder works in parallel to the manual clutch pedal system? Is it possible for the air cylinder to be out of adjustment such that it effects the adjustment of the clutch pedal system? trevor
  17. If they do find the amber room in Poland then the question is what will they do with it? I cannot see the Russian authorities not demanding it back, but would they be prepared to exchange it for the art that was taken away from Poland after the war for 'reparations'? trevor
  18. Have you heard the story that they had to keep opening the torpedo nets on Loch Ness every night to let Nessie in and out - usually just before bed time. It's true, I heard it from a man in Torquay whose father was the lighthouse keeper near the loch. trevor
  19. Ah, so that also answers my other question of how the spare wheel was held on. So if I have got it right there is long bolt, that can fold down, and the wheel retaining plate fits in those clips when the spare wheel is not in place? Presumably there is enough room to tweak the wing nut tight to stop the retaining plate from jumping out of the clips when driving without the spare wheel in place. When we see the work you are doing it is hard to appreciate how much research you are doing in the background! trevor
  20. That is one handsome truck you have there! Is that switch panel and gear lever gate original, or something added later? I am not really familiar with the cab layout on these. trevor
  21. That is one fat exhaust pipe for that size of engine, I wonder what revs they were planning to get out of it  trevor
  22. What is the purpose of this feature? I see pictures of quads with a plate in this location, and others that have nothing at all in this area, and I am mystified as to its use... trevor
  23. Haven't you heard? The previous Polish government dug up the train, split the proceeds and now pretend no such thing happened. trevor
  24. Hmm... I can see a World of Tanks banner at the top of this thread, is life now going to copy video games? trevor
  25. So perhaps a phone app that makes a whistle blowing sound at the required time... trevor
