    New Format

To try to make finding the new posts easier, I have made a few screenshots and added some notes. 1. Under the big HMVF logo you should see 'New Posts'. Click on it. 2. This should take you to a page like that shown below. I do not know why it is called 'Unread Content' when the button we clicked was 'New Posts'. We should be able to see all the new posts. But, if the summaries of the posts are huge like shown below, then we can make smaller (see step 3). 3. To save having to scroll and scroll to see all the new posts, look over towards the right-hand side of the screen, just above our list of 'new posts'. There you should find two text buttons: 'Condensed' and 'Expanded'. Click on 'Condensed'. 4. With any luck, you should now have the new posts listed like shown below. OK, it is never going to look as minimalist as the old forum, but then I am never going to look 20 again. 5. Finally, on the picture above I have added another thing for you to click: clicking on that green dot should take you to the first unread post (and not the 'most recent post' as I wrote on the picture). Now, if that still does not make sense, then please ask where you are struggling. trevor
  2. Ah, so the pattern is rectangular at the back, well that makes complete sense then. trevor

A 'default' is the standard setting for something. So... when it says 'the default list order' it means that this is the standard setting for how the posts are listed: it shows the newer posts first. It is unfortunate that words often have more than one meaning.

So what exactly is confusing? What parts are difficult to read? The team is working hard to make the forum work in its new format, and they seem to respond well to specific comments.
  5. Take the metal detector, in case you drop your keys or something.

I am a development engineer and artist, so I must love change. Rust is also change, and we cannot stop it, so we work on keeping it at bay, with maybe a touch up here and there, but one day we know we are going to be faced with a lot of work. Forums are much like our vehicles in that respect.
  7. Eh, I am a bit confused as well. Will they use the 'pencil box' shaped piece to make a rectangular sand core, then use the big pattern to make the main cavity, and then insert the rectangular sand core into that cavity. But does that not then leave a cavity the length and width of the rectangular sand core above it, which presumably you plan to machine off as required later? Or have I not only got hold of the wrong end of the stick, but the wrong stick completely...? trevor
  8. To fit the different diameters of the rubber used to make the O-rings, so securely holding the 0-ring without damaging the rubber? trevor
  9. You mention that there is not enough slack in the cable to replace the clamp, could the problem be a lack of 'give' in the cable as the battery vibrates and moves while you are driving? trevor
  10. If you received your email notification on the same computer as where you saved the image then it will show up - if you sent the link rather than the image trevor
  11. When you apply the big magnetic plastic roundel, would it help to put some soapy water on the hood first, a bit like one would do for a self-adhesive type, to help it slide around? trevor
  12. Do you mean something like this: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?57814-Albion-BY5-F-B-E trev
  13. I would imagine that they can quite easily estimate potential damage, given that they know what proportion of the images are going to forums. While to us such forums are important, we are just a small part of the market that they support, mostly for free. Photobucket as a forum support is dead, beyond our ability to renovate, just wave and let it go. All that remains are the opportunities for the future. trev
  14. Bob, I don't suppose you have a picture of the one you sent? trev
  15. I am not sure why they should cry at some account deletions, if the main purpose of those accounts was storage for forum posting. They need to get advertising seen by viewers, and places like Facebook generate clicks, but I cannot remember ever seeing any advertising related to any photobucket image I have seen on a forum. It would be a different story if images were embedded like a video, because then they could use YouTube-style adverts one can dismiss. So, sadly, while it may feel comforting to stomp about like a bear with a sore ass, unless someone can come up with a successful way of monetizing pictures in <img> tags, the halcyon days of photobucket storage is over. trev
  16. Is that one of the new types of target?
  17. Nice find, I had forgotten about it. I remember another one on the hills somewhere near Hythe, as well as the ones out Dungeness way. trevor
  18. When does the hull of one of these become a no longer viable item such that it is scrapped? I know my Minis used to rust out until they were ready to be folded up and delivered to the scrappy, so are these hulls flawed in some other way? trevor
  19. Lovely picture, and I have never seen those extension chests before. What were they for? BTW, what is the vehicle third from the end? trevor
  20. If the spark is good and it only runs for 20 seconds then I would check the carb. A backfire could mean it was too lean or too rich, both are possible under the right conditions. I assume the bike was running OK before it went on static display and was not just popped together for display purposes? Have you tried pulling a plug the moment it stops running? This is the ideal moment as it will tell you whether it dies rich or lean.
  21. The one marked: Terry Leaf Spring Greaser Pat. Applied For? http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/images/6/6b/Im19300523LC-Herb2.jpg Neat, I have never seen one before!

  23. Is it possible to remove the supply line to the valve and fit a blanking plug of some kind to the pipe to check there is no other issue?
