  1. Picked up this smock which is the last pattern of windproof in the older classic style but in combat soldier 95 print. Its identical to another I used to have except in the label which I have not seen before, could it be private purchase?,perhaps made by an mod contractor ,hence identical to issue one excepting the label. The reason I am unsure is the mention of sas on the label, although I believe they are catalogued as such on nsn listings.(correct me if I am wrong here).there is a contract number in the corner of the label.Still a nice smock, good size and 3 Para trf on sleeve.(cost me £4.00) so not to worried about issue non issue etc,but just curious as it seems legit.
  2. Picked up this well used, but essentially sound dpm arctic windproof smock for a fiver:-).It is the earlier late 70,s early 80,s type , it has rank tabs front and rear, and no field dressing pocket on the right arm.The material is the lighter, both in feel and look fabric. . It has been fitted with cuffs at some stage.Sadly the label is no longer there, however it still retains the manafacturers factory labels ( pictured) which I have also seen in early 68 smocks, showing machinist, size, lay and serial number,it has three of these ,one in the top left chest pocket and a couple inside the smock. These small labels are faded but I can just make out a 5 next to the size which confirmed the date of the smock more or less for me.Although a bit battered and worn(like me), its a nice addition as I don,t have an early one like this,or at least I did,nt until now.
  3. Ah,Thanks,so same as older smock in all but camouflage pattern.
  4. It would be nice to think the old type windproof lives on,its a tried and tested design much preferred by many ,even parting with hard earned beer coupons to obtain them as an alternative to the many different issue smocks over the years. I wonder if the one shown in the link is the cotton gaberdine type material as per older versions in dpm.
  5. Must admit I still use a battered old 1968 pattern dpm smock for all sorts of activites, including on my small motorbike,( perhaps not the wisest choice for biking) but I ussually sling a high vis over it.Depending where I,m walking I also use an old dpm arctic windproof occasionally,I guess I just like it:-)
  6. Theres no makers name in the label, but it came from Stringtown supplies a long time ago, they no longer do them now.I actually brought this off ebay some time ago.I have seen another in medium on e bay and it went for about £50.00.The smock is still very waterproof as it has the same material and treatment as the issue ones used to have, even down to the distinctive smell of newly issued dpm kit, even though its og.If I see another I,ll let you know.Sometimes sass smocks appear in og they were bespoke made and pretty good, but sadly he no longer trades.
  7. Very nice smock, and certainly unusual.I can,t throw any light onto it I am afraid. There were lots of versions of the sas smock around at that time,I have an og one identical in every way to an issue one but manufactured for private purchase.Being green I actually use it for hill walking as I think the design of these smocks is brilliant.
  8. Yep,well pleased, and one of my better bargains, although a few years back ( I think about 3 or 4) I got an og 1960 pattern smock size 5 in pretty good nick for £3.50,which I still have, from the same boot fair.(different seller to the boots). The guy had several in differing sizes for sale, but I just bought the size 5 , I wished now I,d been a bit greedier.
  9. Went to local boot fair today purely off chance, and found these size 10 dms boots in really good nick for £2.00,so pretty pleased. These have started to get quite expensive on e bay etc, especially considering how much maligned they once were.Wonder how long it would take me to run a mile and a half in them?lol.
  10. Very nice, and pretty hard to come by now.
  11. A good haul, especially the Para smock:-) I recently got a nice one (not from a boot fair),good nick, cheap but not badged, still , pleased with it.
  12. I have been lucky a couple of times at local boot fairs,I obtained a nice 1960 pattern og smock size 5 about 3 years ago for £3.50, also a dpm 1960 smock size 4 some time ago, also £3.50.And a really good condition 1968 pattern early dpm smock and trousers size 5 for £10.00,that was quite a while ago now all of which remain in my collection..I have found various other bits and pieces also.I am not a regular attendee and sometimes I can go to boot fairs and for ages not see a thing.Luckily the wife likes going to them too:-)
  13. Couple of decent boot fair finds today, a nice trials dpm combat soldier 95 field jacket in mint condition, never used. Also a pair of genuine early trops 32 waist 30 leg,(good size for once),in very good nick.
  14. Thanks for the info, must admit I could,nt fathom it out myself,so something else learnt.Cheers again, Steve(boots dms).
  15. Picked up this rather nice dpm Para smock, mid to late 80,s version made by Supercraft garments and in a reasonable size .Nice brass heavy zipper,no insignia I am afraid, all removed, but still a nice addition to the collection. It does have the small rectangle in white stitched to the back of the collar,(would this be for low light or darkness recognition) whilst patrolling/moving in file etc? Also it has the same white rectangles stitched to the inside inner flap of each breast pocket,(see pics).I hav,nt a clue why?.
  16. Thanks for info,I had sort of guessed that it was a personal mod, especially as the label is identical to a standard smock I have. But was,nt sure how far someone could go with these type of mods, again I suppose it depends on your unit or who you are so to speak. To my mind the mods improve the smock considerably, but then again I won,t have to use it as its just part of a collection. There seems a long tradition of modifications to issue kit,ie wool cuffs added to 68 smocks and later types, zip pockets on windproofs etc etc,all good if it helps improve kit .:-)
  17. Thanks, yes, thats certainly an option I had,nt considered. The last 95 dpm windproof smock had wired hood and rank slide, plus velcro on upper arms as did the first pattern mtp smocks,an exact copy but in mtp.I just assumed this had been altered to resemble the "old school" design of windproof smock. If it has I can,t find any evidence on the material.I do have another first issue mtp smock in s95 style with wired hood etc, and the label is identical to this one,so possibly a one off or a customisation.
  18. First pattern soldier 95 style mtp smock. On closer inspection it has no rank slide and the hood is non wired and tailored as per the sas type smock.Label shows standard details,so, personal mods possibly?
  19. very true, plus the unusual nature of this jacket and the price,I just could,nt refuse.Still love the older kit though!
  20. Aquired this jacket combat lightweight mk11 modified ( to quote the label). Bit recent for my interest, but as an unusual item plus it only cost me 99pence, albeit with a small postal fee also. The jacket is mint condition, I believe there are trousers and smock to match out there,so if I find any I may venture further into modern times!
  21. Some really nice pieces, thanks for showing.Like Eaglehurst these items of kit are amongst my favourite pieces.I have 60 pattern dpm and og kit,but alas as yet no windproof.I would be honest and say even if I saw duplicates of what I have it would be nigh on impossible not to buy more, lol.
  22. A fantastic haul there! I really like the mint combat smock, but as you say the grail item must be the sas windproof .It just goes to show even the rarer kit is out there and obtainable if you are patient and prepared to wait. They really are nice additions to a collection.
  23. Unusual ! pure conjecture on my part, but I wonder if it could be a private mod to keep sand from entering tops of boots.
  24. Just acquired another 1968 pattern dpm smock in very good condition. This one has the 8415 nsn designation so slightly later version, and although darker in pattern than my earlier ones the colours are still lighter than say the last very dark issue around 1984.The material has a softer feel to it too,and it still retains the sturdy ykk zipper.Great smock.
  25. I know what you mean, I had a few old bits and pieces years ago,68 pattern etc,but did,nt realise the amount of interest or number of people interested in collecting this stuff untill I discovered the internet, and it just grew from there, into quite an obsession, lol.I,ve learnt so much from here on this forum over the past couple of years, and it seems to encourage my interest.
