  1. Hi chaps, I have to get new vehicle decals, ie Civil Defence Corps crest. A question that bugs me is.... What were original crests made from? i can probably get plastc/ vinyl ones made but they dont seem authentic enough. Does anyone know? Many thanks, Neil.
  2. Andy, Forget the previous question about where you were camped as ive just looked at your profile pic and you two were true saviours and youre right....there at the start and the end for us. cheers mate. Since W&P, I always wondered if Dave ever got a picture or video of us flooring the old girl through the mud to get out. The reason I ask is that it must have looked quite funny and if he had a picture, we'd love a copy.
  3. Thats us Andy, right on the platform at Charlton. Were you camped right behind us? Being terrible with names plus the fact we were towed more than a couple of times, Its nice to put faces to names. Thanks ever so much for helping us at W&P.....we didnt have a very good time of it with a 4X2 truck. We will have a trade stall next year so there'll be a cold beer in the fridge for you in thanks. It took me a day to get all the mud out from underneath!
  4. Mark, Not sure my PMs are working properly lately but if they aren't, many thanks for your reply. We are only in Charlton, near Greenwich so about half an hours drive from you. If you do have any flaps, it would complete the vehicle and make our day as we will plan to use both penthouses at next years Beltring and detling and plan to waterproof them over the winter. Many thanks again and if the PM didn't get through, please PM me and i'll reply or PM with email. Neil & Tracey
  5. Guys, Still looking for a flap from a radio comms body like the one in the picture below. I have two penthouse tent frames (one either side) and all canvas but no attaching flap either side. If anyone can help, i'd be grateful. Many thanks, Neil.

  7. Booked in today andcsetvup camp. The site is hoendous!!! I have a 1956 two wheel truck and got stuck in the first 10 minutes. Very bad areas are cordened off. I only got stuck once and some smashingbfellas pushed us out. In all honesty, wuith the good weather forecast over the weekend, the site has the propensity to dry out well....or at least i hope, as we want some food from the co-op.
  8. Me and Tracey are getting excited (with slight muddy anticipation) about our first ever W&P or event as exhibitors in our Civil Defence Corps Fordson Thames. Naturally, we've camped before but I cant work out why we seem to have enough provisions and gear for a regiment!!.....fear of being ill prepared I suppose. Not deterred by a bit of rain....even as newbies. We will write a genuine update report on our arrival and camp set-up tomorrow for all those arriving at the weeknd. Hope all who attend have an enjoyable show. Neil.
  9. Lee, Thanks for the prompt reply mate. The thing is, we're arriving on Friday so need to find out about things in advance. We have friends who are trade sellers who advised us on the usual (hence taking our own shower & toilets) but as sellers, they dont take MVs. Thanks again , Neil.
  10. Chaps, This is our first ever time exhibiting at the Hop Farm this year. When arriving, are you allocated a field/ pitch or is there a choice? Many thanks, Neil.
  11. Chaps, Thanks to everyone on this forum, I have now found the exact plug for the socket I was searching for and have to tell you that it was a Plessey 104 pattern as you rightly stated. I found the sockets and plugs for sale on www.electrojumble.org.uk and Roy from the site says he has one left for me. If anyone's going to the War & Peace show, please feel free to pop in for a cuppa (or something stronger) as we are there from 13th July to 20th July and you can identify us by the picture of our truck below. Many thanks again to everyone who's technical knowledge has helped us massively. Neil Meekums.
  12. WOA2, Thank you so much for looking. I know i got the pins wrong but although being 43, I think age is setting in. I think getting the phone system running would be a great added extra for the War & Peace show.
  13. Thanks very much....i'll have a look for the group. It would be nice to chat re Civil Defence too.
  14. Chris, Sorry to seem dense but being fairly new to the forums, ive looked but must ask what the 19 set group is. Neil.
  15. Thanks guys for replying. Chris, the socket is fitted to a Fordson Thames ET6 Civil Defence Corps Operations Vehicle. The rear ops unit is original down to the last lightbulb. The two field telephone wires go to the socket as well as the other wires (whatever they were used for). I can understand the need for secure comms being a Home Office ops vehicle. I could simply change the socket but am a bit obsessed with its total originality. Neil.
  16. Hi, I am looking to link two field telephones up on a 1956 vehicle and it already has one internally with an external 10-pin plug outside the vehicle. Can anyone tell me if the photo of the external socket is a known type so i can try to obtain one? Many thanks, Neil.
  17. Retriever, I have looked at some of the vehicles you mentioned and clearly see what you mean and understand how it would fit onto my own vehicle. I have an aluminium beading running the length of the body which would clamp the piece. Many thanks for the information.
  18. Gary, That sounds like a plan. Do you have the part that connects to the vehicle? If you do, i could have had it replicated and also given you dimensions of the frame. I have a frame for both sides all intact and both awnings but just not the section that permanently fixes to the body. I dont suppose youre visiting the War & Peace Show? if not, you are more than welcome to take the details of my frames but I have to be honest, they are a bit comprehensive to make.
  19. Chaps, Can anyone tell me if the side awning for my 1956 Fordson thames ET6 Civil Defence Corps Operations vehicle is standard military or would you say it was made specifically for these Home office vehicles? I mustered up the enthusiasm to see what parts came with the vehicle as i've only had it about 8 weeks and both (one either side) awnings are there but i'm missing the narrow part that attaches the roof to the vehicle. I can only guess that it was a slim piece the length of the vehicle with many hooks for the eyelets. In the picture, you can see the brass eyelets of the roof but there's nothing on the vehicle to attach them to. I desperately want to make the awnings intact as there don't seem to be any photos or any information on the complete kit with side 'rooms'. Also, there seem to be a fair few of these dumped around the country (according to Flickr etc), so if anybody has seen one on their travels, would you be kind enough to drop me a line (there may even be the missing awning part stowed in the rear locker of one). Many thanks for your help. Neil.
  20. Thanks everyone. Yes Airportable, it has all fitted desks, seats, lights, phone, decontamination tent/ shower, blackboard etc.
  21. Hi chaps. I'm a new member today and while searching for info on the vehicle I bought 2 days ago, came across this thread. I am now the owner of a Fordson Thames ET6 Civil Defence Corps Operations vehicle and the body you have shown is definately from one. Mine is a rear door (thus Ops) vehicle and you can clearly see all the similarities. Regards, Neil
  22. Hello all. My name is Neil Meekums and have joined the site this evening as I have purchased (rightly or wrongly??) a 1956 Fordson Thames ET6 Civil Defence Corps 4 tonner and without support and advice, I may be overwhelmed by things i don't understand. The vehicle is in showable condition apart from a few things desperately needed and we hope to be at this years War and Peace Show (if its not tooo late to enter). Also, as the vehicle is almost currently roadworthy, i'd like to take the opportunity to assist and advise other similar owners or persons interested in The CDC (recieved a lot of photos and paperwork with the vehicle) wherever I can. Regards, Neil
