  1. Thanks everyone. I am just getting to know it, but very little rust yet. Thanks too for the link to the Lightweight club. I think I am going to wait until I get the history back and see where it served before I decide on what paint scheme. Since it may have always been DBG, then, I guess it is a no brainer. I may need some help decoding the history sheet. Any of you guys good at that? Also, where is the best place on the net to get pictures and info of particular units when I find out where it served? Thanks, Bil
  2. Absolutely awesome!!!!!! Bil
  3. Is the camo paint scheme you have Deep Bronze Green and sand color or is it NATO Green and the sand color? I am considrering painting the Lightweight I just got to maybe NATO Green and Black. I really don't want to do the inside all over again. The whole rover is DBG now. Thanks for any info. Bil
  4. I was finally able to get my camera back and have included a couple of pictures for all. The lightweight is a 1974 RHD petrol FFR still in 24volt. I am sending off for the vehicle history in a couple of days. It seems to be all there except that it does have a commercial Series rear cross member. Its also been fitted with overdrive. Seems to run well, although it does have a little strange sound from the engine compartment that I will try to expalin in a later post. I think that the color is called Deep Bronze Green (is that correct) and I think that it is the only color it has ever been. It does have the rifle rack behind and slightly above the rear of the seat. Does anyone know if all 1974 lightweights for the British service were painted DBG? I want to start collecting some British kit for it in the era when they were still being painted DBG. Does anyone know the approximate date when they started painting them another color? I would want my stuff to be prior to the change over date. I guess another question would be did any carry their original DBG all the way to being demobilized? I am sure I will have a lot of questions and I hope to become a frequent contibutor here when I learn a little bit more about lightweights. Regards to all, Bil
  5. The photo of the green LW is mine. The other I just copied off the net to give everyone an idea of what kind of camo i was talking about. Yea. I like the camo variety but not sure if i can pull it oof. Thanks, Bil
  6. Hey Everyone. I am new to the forum and need to get some thoughts on painting. My Series III Lightweight came to me in what I think is Deep Bronze Green (I am going to try to attach a picture of the color-it is not very good as to true color but it will give you an idea)..Is it what is called Deep Bronze Green? If anyone knows, when was that color used and also, what is the earliest that what I am calling European or NATO camo (camo pic) came in? Was the Deep Bronze Green used for certain units or certain area--does anyone know? Thanks, Bil
  7. Hey guys. I am brand new to this forum and brand new to British helmets, uniform and other kit. I live in a city that is very famous for a Civil War battle and I am a WWII buff! I live in the US and I am now interested in collecting British stuff to go with my newly acquired 1974 RHD series III Lightweight rover! Who would have thunk it!! :-D Well, I will be the only kid (56) on the block with a Lightweight and I want to get some correct era British military kit to go with it. My question is: If I were to collect a helmet, backpack and uniform for say the era 1974 to whenever the Lightweights began to be taken out of sevice on a wholesale basis, what type (or Mark) helmet wouild be correct, backpack and uniform. I am thinking either airborne or basic infantry. It is painted Deep bronze Green now but I was considering European or Nato green and black camo. Can anyone help get me started with some basic kit ideas? Thanks, Bil
