    I need to try an locate some of the brass latches, these would have been common on the generator trailers, welding trailers, maybe other vehicles of the period. 

    I guess lots of these trailers will have been broken up for the wheels/hitches etc. 

    I have four, although not in the best shape, another four will get me out of a fix, but eight in total would be fab.

    On the question of the hydraulic jack, looking at the drawing in the hand book the jack handle looks to be flat. The company who seems to use such handles is Lake and Elliot. They made a 1 ton jack (S646) and several have been on E-bay for as little as £5. This model is 7" closed so would seem to be the right one. There is a Lake and Elliot jack rage online, they made similar jacks up to 8 ton. I seem to remember when Light Gun first arrived at 100 Regt there was a similar jack around but I think they where also used on some 1 Tonne Forward Control Rovers.

  4. As you can see its just like a water tank on wheels, the spring hangers are welded to the body it's strength is in it's monococue construction. The axel is pretty much universal for the trailers. when I built the one I posted all I had was the hard bits, axel, wheels, tow hitch, springs, break assemblies, hubs, linkages. I folded all the rest, except the centre spine, spot and mig welding all the rest. lights plugs and electricals are available at a cost. I make data plates and have a "T" plate for sale.

  5. An ex-BQMS cooks for us at W&P, often up to 30 plus and uses a Hydra burner. I made up ww2 type pot supports for him, he also uses a ww2 oven and his roast beef is superb. Two of us took our seconds to the IMPS meeting at W&P, sorry Ross it was better than the Doritos. He produced a 3 course dinner for 48 people at W&P all cooked on a Hydra burner

  6. Hi Steve PM me and in the mean time I'll take some photos on Wednesday to post. Which type of airborne trailer are you intending to make? No1 which has no chassis, just a centre spine or a No2 which has a full chassis.

    First photo chassis of Airborne binned store trailer, 2 Binned store trailer,3 No2 lightweight and 3 No1 lightweight. I sold the No1 trailer last year.

  8. Last weekend at Combined Ops at Headcorn in Kent, a chap with a very good Bantam trailer had been tail-ended by a BT truck in full daylight bending it badly, fortunately he was OK. An IMPS member was killed some years in similar circumstances, any thing that makes an olive drab vehicle more visible is a bonus. When I served in HM Forces our vehicles all had detachable hi-vis boards when traveling on public roads and they where entirely authentic, for years I've done the same with my Jeep and trailer. Better safe than sorry, rather than just trying to look authentic on the road. Each to his own

  9. I just need 5 more I think? I'm thinking of getting them made up on a 3D printer and then casting them out of pewter as a trial and then brass later?

    Hi Dave

    Don't use pewter they will break easily, I got mine cast for my binned stores trailer by White Eagle Foundries in Hailsham Sussex using an original as a pattern and cast in gun metal. Entirely successful but needed a lot of fettleing.

  10. I'm pretty sure this ISN'T a gooseneck flare, but a simple filling can of some description.

     

    Assuming the stamping is an AM stores reference, Section 21 is for Barrack Equipment

    Subsection 21G/x covers "Hospital Equipment, excluding medical & surgical supplies" which doesn't sound right at all, more likely is 21C/x "Metalware".

     

    Goosenecks with marked stores references are usually in Section 4 (Aerodrome Equipment), for example 4C/1273 is the reference for the regular round pattern type with the round lid.

     

    Hi all

    I agree with Paul, we have a gooseneck flare can at RAF Kenley and the spout is longer and straighter than the one on the forum.

    We tried it out some years ago and you could see the light from the far end of runway 03 at night despite the light pollution from London.

    Have a look at Milweb trailers, there's a pair of generator trailers for sale, 1 without genni.

    Lots of lovley bits plus a genni suitable for restoration.

    I've known the vendor for 30 years and he's had lots of experiance with airborne trailers, he's down in Sussex so a bit of a treck if your north of the Thames.

  12. Mel, what sort of resistance should we have through the circuit on the brakes? Not looking too good at the moment :-|

    Ref:- 5.5 brakes, check the power lead for ristance, continuity, correct polarity/wireing, we had problems with dodgy leads on the gun in the 70's. Also check the servos for same, we had real problems with them at the end of their service life, one ended up in the front room of a house in Devizes.

    As youknow I aquired "T"'s 3 years ago, I payed £210, found at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, but that was for 10 "T" plates, two slightly tatty but the rest fine. They helped to complete several restorations, I sold most at £35 & kept one as a spare

    Possibly my best find ever!!

    I've just contacted the seller and he might have more, if so I'll put them on the forum at a fair price. Present prices are realy inflated.

  14. Anybody know of a source of brown canvas or a supplier of items in this colour suitable for someting painted in SCC2?

     

    I suppose it must be the same sort of colour as the original Humber sidescreens for jeeps

    Hi Simon

    I had a tent fly sheet made in heavy brown canvas for living history events, it breaks up the sea of olivedrab. It was made by Grahame "Noddy" Vant, he's down on the edge of Romney Mash near Tenterden kent Home 01580 766204 Mobile 07734 248346. he also made tilts for some MW Bedfords and My 2 Airborne trailers. Great work, I know he is part retired and busy with lots of work for mil vehicle owners.
