  3. Anyone thinking of visiting the museum before it closes be aware it is NOT open saturday or sunday, open mon.-fri only unless by prior arrangement
  4. Apparently several weeks ago entries had exceeded 100 vehicles, so keep fingers crossed for good weather
  5. There were trucks specifically built as troop carriers as opposed to cargo trucks with folding side bench seats, eg Bedford QL Trooper, slightly longer body with 4 rows of fixed bench seats

  13. It is a Morris Commercial light reconnaisance car base on 15cwt 4x4 truck parts, rear engined, fairly rare now, there is one at Duxford. My Uncle had removed the turret and cut larger windows into it. It does still survive having been restored, last I heard in was in the Norfolk area

My Mother always reckon my interest in military vehicles was something to do with whilst heavily pregnant with me she got a lift home in my uncles Morris armoured car that he used regularly as a car, apparently it was very difficult for her to get out through the small armoured door....she gave birth to me the next day.....was nearly born in an armoured car....... :whistle:

It is sad that after 38 years the Airborne forces museum is closing on fri.Dec 21st, for those who have not visited it yet ought to see this unique collection, where else can you see a Jeep on its original airdrop platform, how about giving it a good farewell by having an informal MV gathering there on Sat 15th Dec ? Who would be interested in attending ?
  19. weight of the truck on the rear makes the front of the towing Militant very light and can make steering interesting. :-o mmm... yes reminds me of the days of my old Military L/R 11a 109" with harvey frost crane...found its lifting capacity when tried suspend towing a crashed Chevy blazer....err ended up waiving the l/r front wheels in the air.......... :whistle:
  20. Impresive sight, but why was the dolly used? does the crane not operate on your Milly?
  21. There is also the chance to drive your mv, light/medium wt. around the adjacent Mercedes Benz off road course, where you can get stuck in the mud or sink in the pond :-D or just watch the sillyness :roll:

  24. They were in Van Dam's yard on the Dutch/German border nr. Roermond, we bought 8 Jimmys in 1985 for a film production and drove them all back to UK with an M151 Mutt in the back. Certainly lots were saved for preservation, at the time I think they cost about £1200 each. The 8 we had were sold after the film, who knows, an HMVF member may now own one of them
