  1. Happy to assist Chris. After seeing your wreckage, er I mean project, you've got a job on there!!! Do you know about John Morter the Bedford dealer. Top bloke and lives 10 mins form me so if you need bits etc and can always gfo ansd see him for you if necessary Simon
  2. couple more pix showing new tailgate step plate and a view of the whole lump whilst we were trying to fit the front wings.
  3. Just for info my re-build plate is the same date as yours: 2-50!! The plate notes that all components are at std, so it couldn't have had much use til then. My engine number is OY 24514 R and this is of a Feb 1944 MW. Were all MW engines OY prefixed? Simon
  4. Hi Chris, I have a load more I could put on a disc for you if it would help. Also dimensions etc. they're not complicated to build, but very heavy, even in component form!! I have followed the original construction sizes and methods so the pix should be an accurate guide. Also the coach bolts and screws all came from Screwfix in boxes of 100, and are cheap too. Simon
  5. Thanks for your kind comments Degs. I think you're right. If it's a nice truck they'll be no probs. Completeness is crutial to some buyers who just want to drive, but others will be happy to pay less and do some work themselves. It depends on their facilities and skill level or just confidence. I started off with a low initial cost but had plenty of work to do, but I enjoy the project so I can say I've done it and put another old machine on the road. As you can see formt he pix the body wasn't really there but it was very interesting to do, and I could do another much quicker knowing what i know now. I think the MW is desirable too, with good top speed and parts available. Anyway we'll see when it's done if I get any takers!!! Hopefully I can hang on to it for a few shows first! Simon
  6. Yes it was for sale at Beltring. I thought I might as well put a sign up whilst it was there, although I wasn't on the display much... Much rather keep it!! Here's the original pic of the body and some of the reconstruction Somoe more of the rest of the truck to follow
  7. Hi Boys, Before the server crash I posted some photos of the rear body re-build on my Bedford MW. I now have plenty more to add following the resto, if there's interest. Several members saw it in desert colours at W&P inc Richard, John, Andy etc. In fact Richard F saw it for quite a long time as it ended up back at his place in Kent where he and David Lumsdem kindly stashed it for me til Nov!! I had considered selling it, although it needed some more work, ie front and rear canvas, rear hoops, brakes needed sorting plus wiring up, so nothing major but still in terms of completeness it still had a way to go.... I have decided to RE-finish as a Normandy theatre vehicle which it would be been anyway, being a Feb 1944 production, so I'm now sanding back to desert sand colour (yes, I know!!!) so it will be OD and concrete MM finish and will be ready to go to the shows, and then if it gets any interest I know it's a good truck, completely sorted and I can sell it with a light heart. Frankly in this climbate I don't think it's likely, so at least I can enjoy it instead of sitting on a mostly finished truck, which is no good to anyone. I bought the MW from Peter Gaine Nov 07 with a view to restoring it as a desert truck circa 41-42. I always wanted a desert truck, and the combination if looking at Milweb everyday and watching 'The Way Ahead' too many times is a bad combination when one suddenly appears for sale!!!! The MW ran very nicely (not off the fuel tanks though) and was a rolling chassis with the cab bulkhead in place. The rest was piled in the back and the body was pretty much gone with plenty of rot and no floor. Someone had sawn bits of the cab woodwork off and I had 2 or 3 of some bits and none of other parts. It reminded me if buying a 'started' Airfix Lancaster kit cheap off a lad at school which had the instructions missing, some parts lost and bits of a Henschel 126 added in to make up the difference. My experience with several bikes, Jeeps, Morris C8/C4 etc was going to help to a point. Piece of cake really......... urgh! Simon Pix to follow
  8. cheers for that info Richard. I'm just getting it registered so I need to find all the numbers!! BTW, since we took it away from yours/David's place, I have sorted the gearbox which selects nicely now (rusted selector rods, as you might have guessed) and just stripped the brake master cylinder which was solid, so it should be driveable shortly. I'll bung some pix up on a new thread if there's any interest. Also, a fully charged battery started it straight away!!!! cheers Simon
  9. On the subject of engine colours, my MW engine is painted green (but not a camo OD green). is this correct, or can you tell me what colour they would have come out of the factory in WW2 in? Doesn't appear to have re-painted. Richard I guess you'll know this one!! Also, where is the engine number located? Can't find it on mine... Simon
  10. HI Jules, This latest info by Runflat/ackack/ted proves the RAF connection that we dsicussed a few weeks ago. I also agree about the colours, and that many vehicels just get OD and/or MM cos the owners think it's right without researching too hard. I was just going to say that there would be no 19 set, as it's not required, but ackack got there first. I was at the IWM on friday going thro the NW Europe section. 45 volumes of brill phots and my neck still hurts!! I first looked thro the dedicated books on trucks (outside the Morris ones I'd previously studied) as I hoped I'd find a pic of the wireless body I am restoring on a Guy Ant ( I have some pix already so I know they used them) I found zero but they are a few nice ones of your WOT with the light warening body out of the factory. These are KID 2385, KID 2208, and KID1973. You will like them!!!!!! Ring and order over the phone. I always get mine at 10 x 8. Frankly, it just shows your body on the truck to be correct, which we know, but it's nice to see the vehicle clearly photo'ed at the time. The other version that crops up is the Data Recorder vehicle. Same body as the light warning ie internally the same and with no removable gene panels on the back or aerial storage. There was a series of pix showing soldiers assessing data from a recorder vehicle. Sadly no vehicle in the pic. However, looking at the captions on the back of these, it said that the enemy's guns were recorded by a powerful microphone, the sound, as lines on a 3" wide tape (think heart monitor here) was printed out and the place where they were fired from decided. That plot was telephoned to the gunnery commander and the enemy gun positions stonked. Of course non if this helped me to find an inside shot on the Wireless house type 2 but I'm back there in a few weeks!!!! Any info on wireless bodies appreciated. I will post a pic on a new thread shortly... Simon
  11. HI Jules, Looking at that pic after our conversation, you can see a full height compartment through the window. My bodies (Type II wireless) have a half height generator box in that position. The pic i told you about shows the slim 'wardrode' on the left of the rear door as you look inside. I guess the compartment we can see through the window carries either one big item or several items on shelves... but what?? I would put money on the chorehorse sitting on the floor in that part of the truck (not enough room in the wardrobe on the LHS) therefore it might have shelves or storge of some sort above it. The gene must be dragged out through the rear door, not through removable panels as on mine. I know this isn't much help! cheers Simon
  12. I wonder if there is anyone on this part of the site that can help me. I spoke to a Weapons Carrier owner and his wife at the Ramsey Show a few weeks ago. He gave me his card which I have mislaid but obviously I'd like to get in touch. Wonder if any of you guys would know him. He lives in Coventry, I think he owns a Jeep too and does DJing too, and will be at Spanhoe event doing the music.... I can contact the event organiser if no luck here, but I guess they'd be getting plenty of e-mails anyway..... so I thought I'd try here first.... cheers Simon
  13. HI Andy, Yeah I spoke to Peter Gaine. He says they're the same.... I got your daigram thanks and most useful. I have taken a pic of the trailer and will send it now. It will fit in a transit but I'll send dimensions to be sure. ket me know. cheers Simon
  14. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between MW and OY wings please? If there is it would explain why I am having trouble fitting the ones I have! If there isn't I assume that I'm just an idiot!! Any help appreciated. cheers Simon
  15. Andy, I've taken a pic of one of the wheels witht e ferret ali rims. Can you senmd your e-mail address and I'll send you the pix if you're still interested. If not no probs. I have 3 I think cheers Simon
  16. hi andy, Really sorry for the delay. Camera broke and then I went to the states on business so just back etc. I'll sort it and post them. camera won't zoom in or out now as it got dropped........ There are 3 aluminium wheels in good order, and they are for sale..... cheers Simon
  17. HI Richard, Ta for the clutch info. After inspecting the MW again the play on the clutch pedal is excessive too, so I will adjust and drop the pan for a visual as you suggest. Take pix too. Message rec'd about the serial number for ordering, which makes complete sense now!!! Most grateful for your assistance Richard Simon
  18. Hello boys, Got the MW running nicley but the gearbox doesn't want to engage and when i got it into a gear the truck started to move but then it pooped out of gear. Is this a seized release bearing?? If so, does the box have to come off and the part replaced?? I am just going to the sheds now to check to free play which I know will have an effect. 1" the book says.... Also, the have found the chassis number where you said it would be Richard. There's nothing like moving the beast into the lighter part of the barn! Andy you will be chuffed: it reads MWR 59040. From your previous message about serial numbers/years, Richard, I make that to be about May 1944. Production for that year was 8598 divided by 12 gives 716 per month, unless there's production details I'm not aware of. I'm interested to know why the chassis to denoted as a radio one, cos surely the FFW element is engine suppression, extra earth leads etc and all these and other radio requirments are all about the fitting, not the actual chassis. Any ideas?? Simon
  19. Hi Andy Sure thing - I'll go to the shed on thurs ( in London tomorrow at IWM in their archive!!! - can't wait!!) and take some pix. There are 3 with fairly worn tyres. No good to me though so........ Simon
  20. Hi, I'm not a Ferret owner but I've picked up some Ferret wheels/tyres with some Ford WOT bits. These will be advertised in the correct section of the forum shortly but, reading this thread, I wonder if you could advise if the ones I have are standard or what? I have 3 split rims but they are aluminium. Are they normally steel or are these the correct type. Obviously I want to list them correctly so I'm after some help. Anything past 1945 is a blur for me!! Simon
  21. I'd seen this site before but had forgotten how thorough it was - good call!!!!! One pic shows the armoured cars with doors open and you can see No9 sets. Not many pix of those radios floating around. Anyone know of any examples still about as I after both the transitter and reciever units for my radio truck. Simon
  22. Hi all, Here's the latest with the rear wooden body reconstruction: I have bought a load of wood. The planks for the sides/end should be 4" but I could only get 3.3/4" in 20mm thick. So I have also bought 6mm x 20 mm strip and am adding that it where necessary...... I have used a modelling hand plane to make the bevel aloung the edge. The first pic shows some original metal bits and two I have made. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/krazy_kats/rearbodyjan08001.jpg[/img] The light is not great in the barn but you get the idea I hope.... The is the front panel as seen from the cab side http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/krazy_kats/rearbodyjan08010.jpg[/img] Nearside panel with a replaced top plank and lower bits ongoing http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/krazy_kats/rearbodyjan08008.jpg[/img] Some of the rotton wood being cut out. I am half way through removing it by hand and cutting it away with an electric jigsaw. Once I have figured out where the good wood starts I will make the last scarf cuts and add new bits. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/krazy_kats/rearbodyjan08005.jpg[/img] The view inside from the tailgate. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/krazy_kats/rearbodyjan08003.jpg[/img]
  23. Jules, Are you around tomorrow?? Might be in your area. I've sent Tobin a txt to see if he's about. Re this truck. The boys are right - grab it!! Figure it out later. My experience with my civi Morris 10/4 is that is great to have something which isn't going to end being finished in OD!!! Simon
  24. Soory mate, haven't checked this bit if the forum a bit. Been in Brit vehicles!!! Yes Jan asked me to supply detail ages ago. Might have been when he first did to register. Mine is a CO/B from the contract of 3000 they did early 43 with the Burman box when the Albion factory got bombed and production looked iffy. Suits me actually as it's the same box as is on my Ariel. Just rebiult the head with new springs, original valves re ground etc. Barrel honed and big end re-built. Next job is to trial fit to cases and then we'll see........... Rest of the bike is restored, girders re built front wheel brake skimmed up true and just waitinf for the engine etc then we're in business!! Simon
  25. HI john, I'm hoping the 8 will be sold by next month!! I have a desert scheme on the go for W&P. So we may have to utilise Photoshop to get them in the same pic. It would be great though. Maybe the new owner will take it to W&P?
