  1. I can ask Rex, I'm seeing him fairly soon. I remember it too, very original looking and an arabic plate on the front - awesome. The RLC one didn't make the dunkirk event. was never going to.. they rang me about 2 weeks before asking about tyres! I took my '37 CS8 though, which was well rec'd. Isn't there a MCC PU in Holland somewhere? I though there was, but maybe I'm wrong (again!) simon
  2. thanks for that info. I hadn't heard of Delcolite.. I know the base size as I have the frame it bolts to for removal out of the truck, but that's about it ..... cheers Simon
  3. Thanks Adrian and Tony, I have one of the smaller genes, similar to that in the link you sent Adrian. I know that's a 'chorehorse', but someone else looked at the photo rcently and said it was a chorehorse too!! So that confused the issue.... So what is it? I should clarify now. I'm after the gene in the photo, not a chorehorse! Are you likely to be this way to check out the carrier, Adrian? simon
  4. I believe the photo is of a BSA 550 chorehorse generator used, amongst other things, for charging batteries. I'm looking for one, but first i need to identify it correctly. Can anyone confirm what this gene is please? Does anyone have any photos or info on them? Any info appreciated chaps. thanks. Simon PS It was used in the back of 15cwt WT house bodied vehicles, but I guess it had other uses... Once I know for sure I'll put a wanted ad in classifieds.....
  5. HI Glynn, Yes I hope that Mike K with advise over the Oz numbers. Any more info on th publications that have the production numbers? thanks Simon
  6. HI, I wonder if anyone has a rough figure for early CS8 numbers in existance worldwide? Obviously this would be made up of museum examples, ones under resto and running. I realise we could get an idea of who's got what, what we know of etc, but i just wondered if anyone had a rough figure... The number actually running and driving around would be interesting? I don't know the manufacturer's figures. I think there were 21,000 15 cwt built but I'm not sure if this is right. A breakdown of figures across the types would be interesting. Is there anywhere i can search for these details? cheers Simon
  7. Hi Brian, welcome - i get over to Colorado irregulary on business. Up at Fort Collins there's a Jeep dealer who took me around his yard. No WW2 stuff as he says it gets sold whilst still in the loader - no surprise. Big buddy of mine there is Brian O'Meara - he has a ford dealership in Denver - not surprisingly called O'Meara Ford! well hope you find us all useful cheers Simon
  8. About a year since I last posted about my MW. This is the Normandy bit! I've spent the last few months doing all the little jobs that need to get the lorry completed, so the side lights are indicators, but still look like side lights, and it has some insignia too. Runs and drives great... New windsheild glass, canvas and headlamp glass and about twice as much paint as I thought!! Many, many cold hours spent making it how i wanted it. And sold to the first guy who saw it........ Simon
  9. Hi and welcome mate, Where in norfolk are you? there's a few of us in S norfolk Simon
  10. yeah that big mudguard looks like a tanker and i thought it was sand channel too. You'd think the spare wheel carrier etc would be visible as it's mounted right up on that side....
  11. Thanks Clive/Andy for your help. After posting, and thinking that Speedograph may be in pole position for my business, i found a place called the Gauge shop which used original Smiths calibration gear etc. Rang the guy up and had a really encouraging phone call, so i will call speedy cables and speedograph and make a decision, and then will post about the results. cheers Simon
  12. Thanks Robert. I'm going to give them a buzz tomorrow and see how the land lies re prices/time etc cheers Simon
  13. they were the guys that looked like the best bet. Nice site etc so it's interesting to see that it was your choice too. thanks
  14. Does anyone have experience of intrument restorers, or would recommend, or not recommend any particular company. I have several Smiths 2" gauges that need sorted. Some idea of what I might expect to pay would be handy to thanks Simon
  15. Great stuff Phil, and thanks for sharing it. Could DM stand for' dangerous materials'? Sounds like a more modern term, and for sure that wouldn't narrow things down much back then? Plus nobody cared whether it was dangerous or not, but that's my only guess. The word 'exposed' would suggest that the powers to be were aware it was dangerous and it had to be noted for medical purposes. Decontamination might be more likely.... Simon
  16. Searching on trux models on the forum only brings up 2 references so i thought I would alert the WW2 brit MV people to this excellent and thorough site which has details of Units 44/45. I guess some members will know about it.... The site uses original War Establishment tables from the Public Record Office, plus other contemporary documents, to give as full and accurate a description of the units as is possible. http://www.truxmodels.co.uk/ Simon
  17. HI Richard, ta for your assistance - hope you are doing OK. 2245 for 3000 C4 WTs is, as you say, almost correct! Do you know of any other contracts for C4 WT? Or any idea how many of that type were made on the C4 mk 2 chassis? cheers Simon
  18. Hi All, I have checked other Morris threads to make sure this info is not listed anywhere else first, so would anyone have the Z numbers for Morris contract 2244. the number stamped on the rear chassis hanger is 2244 WT 1539. Expect this would have been issued late 1943 for about 1500 or so vehicles. Also looking for info on 2280 GS 434. thanks in anticipation Simon
  19. Hi Paul, Welcome to the forum!! I have a CS8, as do several other members, plus a couple of later war C4s. You might find the Z number stamped on the front side of the passenger side chassis rail if it's an early CS8. First 2 numbers will be the year it was made, and the best part is that you can finish it with the original serial number, which is cool. I guess you know all this, but i thought i'd mention it. cheers Simon
  20. Jummaging through a load of bits I got with a Morris C8 a few year's ago, came across a good condition rev counter. Number printed on the face is ATRC2638/1/C/ATA12. If anyone knows what type of vehicle it goes on at least it could be of use to someone... thanks Simon
  21. HI ans welcome. Look forward to seeing some pix/info. What will you base it on? I've seen both Dodge and Landy example which looked good.... cheers Simon
  22. That's very kind of you. I better nip over the my fab place and buy the tube! cheers Simon
  23. Hi Adrian, Yes we could use some help. Might be worth me buzzing down to yours if that would be convenient. The Carrier is 1938 engine and running gear but otherwise a MkII. Well this is what the previous owners said. i'm not sure, and we're going to Duxford to see John Delaney and take some measurements off theirs. Basically the front construction is clearly wrong and needs removing and new parts fitting. The rear plate isn't right either but as that's a straight piece which bolts on we can deal ( or we think we can!). It runs and drives fine but just doesn't quite look right on close inspection.... on another Q do you know anywhere that can bend 1" steel tube for rear hoops on my Morris 15 cwt? Thanks Simon
  24. really interesting pix Adrian - thanks for posting. we're just up the road in S Norfolk. Only armour we have is a carrier (otherwise trucks, jeeps, bikes) which will need some front armour re-making so it's exciting to see how you go about these operations at a professional level. Simon
