  1. Hi Mark, sorry to read about your troubles but at least nobody was hurt! This could be the result of transmission wind-up. Does the Ward La France have an inter-axle differential between the rear axles? If not, how do the rear tyres compare in size? Ideally, all 8 tyres should measure within 1/4 inch diameter (according to google search) otherwise the axles will be fighting each other and something ultimately has to give! Are there any signs of scrubbing around the circumference of the rear tyres? If your tyres don't measure up the same then you need to swap them around so that the diameters match between axles 2 and 3. A difference in tyre diameter between the ends of any axle is unimportant. What about the tyre pressures? Any difference in pressure will affect the effective tyre circumference. Good luck with the repairs  Andy.
  2. I bought myself an M20 today 8-) The previous owner has started restoration but it's been stood a while since then. Plenty of work to do, I'll post details in the 'Restoration Projects' section when I get stuck in, here's a couple of pics.
  3. I could be interested in some, or all, of the canvas depending on condition/price. Andy.
  4. Mystery solved! It's a foglight switch apparently, although there aren't any fitted to the vehicle. ( unless they are incoporated into the tail lights :dunno:) Thanks for all the suggestions
  5. It's an original switch, I've seen them on other MJs but nobody knows what it is :? The cab is well tidy, as is the truck in general, what pics would you like, interior or exterior 8-)
  6. Nope. Unless it's an old redundant switch. I might have to pull it apart and see if it's wired to anything.
  7. Nope, it has a mechanical (cable) engine stop.
  8. Can anyone please tell me what this switch is on my Bedford MJ :dunno:
  9. Removing the load (by not firing) should make it quieter. If all's quiet with one particular lead removed then that is where the problem lies. (if it is a big-end going) You say it's not a 'fast knock', at 1000 rpm a big end will be knocking at 8.3 times a second, at 2000 rpm 16.6 etc.
  10. Sounds like a big-end to me too. Take off each ignition lead in turn and run it on the remaining cylinders, does the knock go away when a particular lead is removed? The knock gets louder and then the conrod comes out the side of the block. :eek2:
  11. If it's only stuck in one place (or only one place is free) you could easily crack or warp the head, you need to move it as a whole. I think you need to remove the studs, just go carefully ;-)
  12. The last tender results should be up on the website soon. If you write to Withams they will tell you the winning bid and name and address of purchaser.
  13. Can you get the studs out? If there is enough thread showing, use two nuts locked together to unscrew the stud.
  14. Channel 4 programme link here :- http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/G/great_global_warming_swindle/
  15. and another thing :banghead: The data that Al Gore was using was falsified. The actual data showed that increased global co2 levels were the result of global-warming and NOT the cause. Climate change is natural, we have to accept that and work out how to deal with it rather than playing at King Canute.
  16. I fully agree with you  The whole global warming issue is now a runaway monster and too many people are making big money from it. Did you see the Channel 4 programme that was on a few weeks ago? (The Great Global-Warming Swindle) A lot of eminent people are now dis-associating themselves from the whole 'man-made co2 emissions are causing an environmental catastrophe' concept. The amount mankind produces is a tiny fraction compared to naturally occurring co2. If every single vehicle in the world was scrapped tomorrow how much less co2 would be produced? I belive it would be around 0.01 % :dunno:
  17. Bodge, your email is hidden :dunno:
  18. Oh dear, I think she's going to fit in very well
  19. Thanks for the welcome chaps  Jaffa cakes yum yum Trying to convince the girlfriend it's a good idea to go to War and Peace in the MJ, 600 mile round trip though and she don't do camping. If we get there I'll bring tea and Jaffas

    Merlin Engine.

This pic was taken yesterday at the Chipping Steam Fair, near Preston, Lancs. Two 27 litre Merlins and a 36.7 litre Griffon all run-up together :-D The sound was awesome, it shook your insides.........
  21. Another new member here 8-) I'm new to the 'hobby' although I used to buy ex-MOD Land Rovers from Ruddington in the early 1980s but I always wanted something bigger  At that time there were Mighty Antars and Leyland Hippos and suchlike still at auction but they were way out of my league then. Austin K9s and Bedford RLs were plentiful (and cheap) but even then I didn't fancy the petrol bills Last year I got myself a Bedford MJ and Arrows trailer and I love it! I always liked the look of the MK/MJ, to me it's one of those things that just looks 'right'. Anyways, here's a picture....... Andy.
