  7. Looks good so far,my 43 gpw is USMC,heres some pics as found. Jeeps were always olive drab from the factory and could serve in olive drab with original army numbers on hoodand usmc numbers on side / rear, or resprayed in forest green as mine will be,with original usmc numbers.
  8. couldnt find a usn jeep that had sold but theres a cj in raf colours at cheffins for 23rd oct guided at 15-18k and a jeep at classicmobilia.com for 30k.I wish i hadnt got rid of all my rotten jeep bodies i would be welding them to mahindra chassis as fast as the auctions would take em.
  9. Didnt see an original bolt on it,16k wow ,if youve ever been to a top classic car auction you will see bitsa jeeps going for the same money, the worlds gone mad.Who was the expert at the end of the show who said brass extinguisher was rare and a first aid kits worth £500 ?,i think that was vacuum gauge on the engine, what the point of it was and why you would leave it there i dont know, but if a wrong repro rear panel was missed i dont think there was hope for fixing the rest. Nice to see a jeep on tv though.
  10. http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/showfull.php?photo=137537 Heres engine all clean ready to go for a rebore if the pitting will allow it. Need crank regrind and new cam and lifters, not going to be a cheap job but ive got new timing chain, carb, oil pump from other engine and plenty of gaskets in stock.
  11. Has anyone got a dimensioned photo or drawing of a ls166 speaker mounting bracket, its a simple casting i think to take threaded bolt with wing nut.Colin.
  12. I have now got pistons free from bores, one had to be hit from below with softwood, then hardwood, then copper and finally resorting to a 1/2" socket extension to get it to move. All in all not as bad as it could have been, got to take block to the engineers to see if it will take a rebore.
  13. i think this is a mates dad on a raf harley
  14. Heres a parts diagram, its a reliable carb. http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/PBI-2type.html some parts are on ebay or try speedy spares, jeep parts etc.
  15. I can only work a few hours per weekend on motor so here is results of heads off, bores full of water, bores pitted, lifters are all free and it looks like lifter bores are ok,i took sump off and was surprised to see crank and rods in good nick, next week i will take crank out and try to get rods and pistons out then add up the cost of rebuilding it.
  16. Following the discovery of a crack in my block after the christmas bad weather i have extracated a engine that had been in a garden for 10 years, heres some pics before i delve deeper,im hoping to get away with a clean up,we will see. 19. Although this truck looks too shiny to me,the fact it has OD canvas points towards the truth i think as most usaf vehicles are usually just redirected army vehicles, unless any one knows different.

  22. Hello all, the names Colin, took motor out of dodge last week, as well as rusted freeze plugs ive got a 6 inch crack in block, bought a used motor from Enfield paid Boris Johnson £100 for the pleasure of travelling into what used to be Essex and is now greater london emmision zone, when i got it home and took plugs out its full of water [thats where all this rains been going],ho hum,im on to another one in maidstone now, might do a blog on this one probably going to be the most costly rusty dodge in the country.
  23. Sisal rope or string is available in good old fashioned hardware/ironmongers,i got my rope from a local one for my m416 trailer.the loops at ends are usually formed by weaving the strands together i believe, and heavy duty loops subject to heavy wear and strain would be protected by a rope thimble also at your local hardware store or ships chandlers, hope im on the right track.
