  1. Last I had heard, the armor collection was consolidated and moved from Aberdeen Proving Grounds to a new facility at Fort Lee Virginia. I had been at Aberdeen with my brother in law just after the elephant had been repainted and all and this was what we were told at that time.
  2. I was wondering if a travelerer, as used with wooden wagon wheels could have been used. They had been around for some time so they would have been known. http://www.antiquetools.com/10-tools/10-Tools/traveler.html :???
  3. I would love to see the build process that can turn out such an excellent product. Great looking pair:wow:
  4. After reading in this forum for some time now and following some of the restorations avidly, I have been wondering how great an extent the restorers go to to maintain originality. I realize that some parts have to be replaced/made as originals are not available at any price but how far does that replacement go. There was a truck on here some time ago where the frame had suffered considerable damage both from rusting and then someone picking it up in the middle which was where the most damage from the rust had occured. This had caused the frame to bend almost like a horseshoe. Now would it be better for orignallity to cut and splice the frame or to replace both complete rails? Also if a cross member is rivited in and badly damaged/rusted out, is it better to bolt a replacement piece in or have it rivitted
  5. Looking at the timing gear I was wondering that with the machine work I have seen done on this site if it would not be easier to remove it from the shaft which will have to be done anyway to replace it, wel d up the teeth that are bad and then machine them back to the proper profile. I know you can't just run out and pick up a new one and to me this would be the easiest repair and you would also be using original parts
  6. There is a lamp on Ebay here in the states. Thought someone may be interested in it. Since I am just getting started in collecting kerosene lamp this caught my eye Believe it to be a tail light . Enjoy http://www.ebay.com/itm/230781493595?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
  7. I have always been interested in Military vehicles particularly armour. I built plasic models when I was much younger but there was not as much variety in them available as there is now. This led me to scrat-build varients that were not available. While I was in the military in Vietnam, I was just a regular ground pounder. I find the restoration Blogs fasinating and wonder at the work turned out. I also am fasinated that there are these old miltary and commercial vehicle sitting under a house, in a brushpile, in a field. Also that Britain is much more open to a private individual can own military vehicle of any kindand that they can buy it from the government. Here the vehicles are cut to pieces and bacsically sold as scrap.
