  1. Hello. My name is Lee James. I am a freelance photographer who has been published in the past for military aviation photos. I have been a member here since August 2011. My dad is ex 1st Btn Grenadier Guards and also former employee of ROF Nottingham. I am now updating my photographic portfolio, and I am very interested in contacting the owner of this Alvis Tactica that was shown at this August's Bank Holiday Tanks Trucks and Firepower show. I would like to know it's specification, it's service history and where it was sourced from. I would also like to contact the owner of this georgeous AEC Militant Mk3 Recovery vehicle that was also in attendance at the show. Again I would like to know it's specification etc. As I am including these in a photographic article on my website. Also if anyone has an extensive Military vehicle collection or own an extremely rare piece or have recently restored an item, and are willing to allow a 66 year old and a 40 year old to visit to take photos and ask questions. And happy for the photos to appear as part of my portfolio. Please get in touch. Also if you are happy for my dad and I to visit and take photos for our own collections and not distribute them into the public domain, we are happy to sign a confidentiality disclosure stating this. I can be contacted via any of the social media buttons or my telephone number on my website. Regards Lee James http://analystandphotographer.weebly.com/
  2. DoB website is sadly reliant on people to send in data. I sent in the location of a Pill Box which sits on top of RedHill tunnel over the Nottm to London railway line which is next to Ratcliffe on Sour Power Station. It was in very good condition when I was last up there as it is has been protected by the trees, and access is via the fields from Thrumpton coming from the East of the Trent. Sadly Googlemaps/Flash Earth images are out of date The cross is roughly where the pill box is. http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=52.87197&lon=-1.2651&z=19.2&r=0&src=msa Although I have heard rumours that it has been demolished. Sadly Network Rail have now put fences up along the embankment, as alot of cross country runners used the railway bridge. Sadly one runner entered from the West side which is the HST tunnel as the Tunnel on the east is Freight. And met with an unpleasant end. There is a large red pentagram on top of the roof.
  3. I'm hoping to be there either the Saturday or the Sunday armed with cameras. Depends on "shmbo".
  4. Very nice..... Yes it is a classic layout of an Ack Ack site. Very rare to find one that hasn't been dug out and filled in now a days.
  5. Big Mac sadly passed away at the age of 61 whilst on holiday in the Greek Islands. He died nearly 2 years to the day that his son was killed in Afghanistan. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/2011/08/28/iranian-embassy-siege-hero-john-mcaleese-dies-on-greek-holiday-86908-23378743/ Both true hero's.
  6. That is the only downside when using this software. (My partner has an 11 y/o from her previous marriage). However Carboots and Ebay come in handy when it comes to lego.
  7. Sadly the last Govt made a right mess with the change of the main bike test in 2 parts. Do your CBT which is approx £90 - £100. As you are over 21 yes you can do your Direct Access, but it means paying out £500 - £1000 for a 4 or 5 day course where you do your intensive training on a 500cc or 600 cc bike from 9am - 4pm for those days and then take the test on the last day. However some people have to travel 50 - 60 miles with the instructor to do the off road hazard swerve test on a test centre built for that purpose. However the new test is in 2 parts as you have to do the off road hazard swerve test and then do the main road test. This came in to play a few years back, however there have been no end of accidents on the off road hazard swerve test that the Govt have been advised to change the test back to the old Direct Access method. So what I would advise you to do, is a) Get provisional motorcycle entitlement on your licence if you haven't already got it. b) Take your motorcycle theory test - Yes you have to take it is the law, even if you took the driving theory test. c) Do your CBT on a 125 it is vaild for 2 years so you can ride a bike no bigger than a 125 for 2 years on L plates (Not allowed to carry pillion) d) Wait until the DfT change the bike test back to what it was before then take your Direct Access on a 500 or 600 bike, which should be done by then. After 2 years is up, if you wish you can re do your CBT assuming you have not taken your main bike test. Which is new as you couldn't years ago, as back then if you didn't take your test within that 2 years, you had to wait another 2 years to re take your CBT and then do your test. I did my old DAS with Circuit Based Training when they were at Donington Park. They are now at Mallory Park.
  8. No problems, will get something sorted out with him.
  9. Dad is ex 1st Bt Gren Guards and there is a picture of him in Holywood Barracks standing next to a PIG Ambulance in 1972. There was a Pig Ambulance at War & Peace last year and there is one at the Medical Corps museum in Surrey. The reason the pigs were done as Ambulances was because of them being armoured, and that the civvy ambulances were being shotup when called out to disturbances. Alot of pigs were painted up over night as Ambulances as Lord Richard Cecil who at the time was Captain of the Grenadier Guards ordered them to be painted up to go out with the patrols. These just had make shift stretchers in them and field dressings and kits.
  10. Hi there. I'm Lee, son of a Military Enthusiast of whom was an Ex 1st Btn Grenadier and ex ROFN employee. I've been brought up amongst the Military livestyle, books, photos and travelled to various shows throughout the years, and yes I am engaged to a camp brat. My dad has recently had to have another hip replacement, so this year I have been doing the shows and photography. I am more the photographer and have my own interest in the MV scene. Purely the MV motorcycles and the Y2K AFV's, but I am more of a Mil Aviation photographer. This year I have strict instructions to photograph certain types of MV's I'm currently employed within the NHS and a motorcyclist. So if some you see a motorcyclist taking photos of a/your MV in obscure positions, it is more likely to be me. Beaware that I may post requests of who owns a particular vehicle and which show they will be attending. I'm also building a database from my Dad's photo collection of where vehicles were last seen and what DIV markings they had. As sadly as we know that hard times have hit us all and that some vehicles have been sold overseas. I look forward to seeing some of you in the near future. Regards Lee
