I was in 5 Sqn RE Paderborn from Dec 1968, in March 1969, 3 troop were sent to Libya to manage the tented desert warfare training camp facilities; water, sanitation refrigeration and electrical supply to the camp
We also ran the enemy battle simulations (giant firework displays) for the set piece battles for Tanks (Centurian's) Artillery and Infantry
We travelled to and from Libya RAF Guteslohto I think RAF ElAdem in a VC10!!!
The Camp (name forgotted) was located 50miles South of Al Timimi on the coast road, between Derna and Tubruk
En route on the desert track to the camp was a Junction called 'Picadily Circus' , with sign pots to a number of other destinations
At another location on an escarpment a number of giant regimental badges were formedout of upturned Tannants Lager cans pushed into the sand.
Most interesting was a pair or sand eroded conicle peaks maybe 100 feet high each surmounted with Red painted Cairns, This was know as 'Pinders Tits'
Someone must remember them???
Would like to hear from 'anyone' who was sent there and their memories and photos?
Unfortunately I have no pictures except for R&R at a beach near Razatin and a day trip to Bengazi
We left in June and Godaffi took over in August, beleive all British Forces and MV kit was destroyed or returned to BAOR
Looking forward to some comments
