  1. The answer to that would seem to be who you are? I was never offered transport costs for the Chieftain ARRV. Some paid a reduced rate for there vehicles being transported and some managed to pay nothing for their transport. The above applied not only to tanks. Markheliops
  2. It's a brave man who puts petrol in a Chieftain. As I understand, the L60 could be converted to run on petrol but this took a number of hours and to be honest I wouldn't even try it. The L60 was a fragile engine at best. FV432's would happily accept petrol and I suppose dropping a couple of gallons in the Chieftain fuel tanks would be okay but in my fuel tanks - no! As a matter of interest: I think multi-fuel engines designed for use in UK military spec were only intended as an "emergency" measure in case the crews found themselves in the middle of nowhere and running short of fuel. I don't think the K60's were designed to run on petrol only. Could be wrong - I often am. Markheliops
  3. Thanks for the info Robin. Much appreciated. Markheliops
  4. Thank you for the info David. Most helpful as CVRT aren't really my bag. Cheers
  5. Nooo. Don't do that Chris - You're my google.
  6. You know if I had bet a years wages on who would know and provide an answer - I could now take next year off. Thanks Chris. Markheliops
  7. Hi all. I wanted to ask the CVRT gurus of which there are many on here a question in relation to track. To those who know the answer it is probably an easy one to comment on but I work on the basis that no one knows everything and it's better to ask than be sorry later. I don't like taking chances in regard to tracked vehicles. I'm servicing our Spartan and I am looking at the tracks. Now if the vehicle was a Chieftain MBT I'd tension the tracks to the correct distance. If not achievable by tensioning alone, I'd count the links per side. If I could I would then remove a link until you reach the amount where over-sized sprockets have to be fitted. Then remove more links until the limit is reached - then track is condemned. Now CVRT - It's a Spartan so links should be 82-84 per side. The tensioner should be tensioned to give 120 - 145mm distance. Now my question is this: If the tensioners are at maximum and the track stretch is below the 1188mm, is it acceptable to remove a link? The manual doesn't make it very clear. There are references in relation to "replacing" a link but doesn't state you can remove one like the Chieftain. The Army recorded track particulars on an AB 413, recording such things as links replaced, etc as another sign for track replacement was when 15 links have been replaced. As I don't know the history of the vehicle in question, I have no idea how many links have been changed if any! So to cut to the chase - Is it acceptable to remove links from the track? Thanks chaps / chapettes Markheliops
  8. The Wards didn't do too badly either Howard! I think the Sterling winning bid was okay-ish.
  9. Umm - interesting. I guess this shows just how out of touch the new organiser is. If you ask the majority of War and Peace attendees why they go to the show, I'd guess around 80% go to see old and meet new friends. Yes, a small number do go for the public but I think even if the public didn't attend numbers would still be high. I have taken the ARRV to show the public but I still go to see mates etc. I don't think he's doing himself any favours and he may regret a few of his comments. Time will tell but there is an awful lot of people on various forums shunning the show.
  10. I'm all for good faith Lauren but can I suggest labelling the majority of the two largest Military Vehicle Clubs members as "scammers" is not going to help his cause.
  11. Im trying to write a reply without stepping out of line or sounding as pi---d off as I am. To me the organisers responses in regard to various concerns make him sound like an arrogant twat. (Sorry) Well Mr Organiser, I hope you are reading this: In regard to "without me you have no show" - I have news for you! There are plenty of smaller shows and local events that welcome MV owners without expecting them to personally add to your financial gain. It costs me, fellow co-owners, reenactors and family members time and money to support "your" show and if there's one thing that will send us elsewhere it's an arrogant attitude towards the very people that bring the public in to fill your pockets. I've been trying hard to think of a reason to come to War and Peace 2016 but my mind is now made up. I shall look for alternative shows and local fetes. Combined Ops will be a definite as its a great relaxed show run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. A sad end really as I've been attending this show for as long as I can remember but I think the show has been going down hill since it moved away from the Hop Farm. I have always tried to support the show and as previously said, it's great to meet up with fellow owners and old friends. Anyway enough said - for those that do attend the show enjoy but for me the magic has gone!
  12. Hi all. From the latest IMPS newsletter regarding the agreement between the club and the War and Peace organisers: I have removed particulars that do not deal directly with entry into the show as these are not relevant for non-IMPS members. IMPS/WAR & PEACE REVIVAL AGREEMENT Following is a summary of the revised IMPS/W&PR Agreement 1. IMPS Club members VEHICLES enjoy free entry for up to TWO adults & two children after two years of continuous club membership. BOTH adults must be members of the IMPS to receive free entry. Any non members will need to purchase a show (NB. All vehicle entries, regardless of whether affiliated to a club or not, and including MVT and IMPS, are required to pay £10 per entry form towards provision of 24 hour toilet facilities. This fee is per entry, so if more than one vehicle on an entry still only £10 for the entry). Please note that paper entry forms will not be issued. All entries will be done no line through the W&P Revival website. I don't feel it is fair in regard to both adults having to be IMPS members. ie. If you are a IMPS member but your partner isn't you'll have to pay for her / his entry into the show, regardless of what or how many vehicles you are bringing. I also feel sorry for the hundreds of owners who "don't do" the internet - no paper entries........ I have to be honest but I'm struggling to think of a reason to attend the show anymore and I feel quite sad about that. If I do attend I will come to meet friends and have a social. The days of transporting heavy tanks and various different vehicles to the show are long behind me. Markheliops
  13. Hi Dave. I don't have any details for the new owner mate. The chap is was talking too was - YOU! Ha ha - long day. Regards Mark
  14. Hi David. I saw this Beaver too. I brought Jason's other Beaver and restored it to use at the war and peace Show where it performed brilliantly. I think I have the chaps details who brought the other Beaver - I'll have a look. Regards Mark
  15. Getting back to the War and Peace Show: Am I very slow or has anyone else noticed the show is running from Tuesday to Saturday!!!! I only noticed when I entered the dates on my 2016 wall planner. I actually think it's a good idea if only to stop the embarrassment of the empty fields on a Sunday. Markheliops
  16. Cherished Vehicles - I can't praise them enough. I have all the MV's insured with them - some road registered - some not. Not an issue. I have three Chieftains insured with them.
  17. My bit for what its worth! I owned a vintage WWII truck and I also own a fully deactivated M1 Carbine, dated 1943. The weapon is harmless and cannot fire or be made to fire any munitions of any kind. The weapon is owned purely for show and sits, chained in the cab. To ban deactivated weapons held legally is a ridiculous knee-jerk reaction. Terrorists to not commit atrocities with deactivated weapons. The only people who will be affected by this law will be legal abiding citizens who own completely harmless weapons. I would suggest the EU concentrates its efforts clamping down on the illegal weapons trade, instead of making fast judgments on legally owned deactivated weapons. When a terrorist attack involves the use of a deactivated weapon, then I will be prepared to listen to the arguments for banning deactivated weapons. Until that time, please leave us law abiding citizens to enjoy what little freedom we have left!
  18. I think the new rules for MV entries etc will hit the show attendance hard! I have brought up to 9 vehicles to the show but if I have to find IMPS drivers for the vehicles or pay for the other vehicles - I don't think I'll bother. I'm not too fond about paying for toilets and showers either. I don't use them for a start! If there was just the £10 charge for toilets I wouldn't mind but put it with the other charges coming into play and the show starts to get a little costly. Maybe we have been spoiled in the past but considering certain groups bring many vehicles under one entry- I think it will be the show that loses.
  19. As far as I know - the museum has been sold to someone!
  20. If it's the one from Turbo Adventure you're going to need a particular spare that I have!
  21. Sorry Paulob1. I have to strongly disagree. Its not normally the driver of the tracked vehicle that is at fault. I was taking the Chieftain ARRV down the M20 (on the low loader obviously) and then was nearly a 4 car pile up. Why, because people were slowing down, hanging out of the window and taking pictures / video. To us MV owners, tanks and armoured vehicles are part and parcel of what we do but the average member of public has a fascination of armour and if they ever see one up close, they tend to do silly things like step out in front of them to get a better picture. We all know children like to touch the tracks - when they are moving. I would say my experience of driving old slow vehicles and tracked vehicles is the driver of armour has to be far more alert to others on the road and what they may do without warning. It's only my personal experience of driving both types of vehicle that I base this opinion on. Markheliops
  22. Thank you Adrian - much appreciated.
  23. Hi all. Can anyone identify this radio type? It is made by RACAL and appears to have Clansman connectors but I'm a little stumped! I've never come across this type before. Any info greatly appreciated. Markheliops
