  1. Looking for any information regarding the MoS wartime and post war vehicle rebuild program ,i know that all our vehicles which have been through the MoS rebuild program have a plate fitted giving information regarding the rebuild and some times a new identification/census number ,the war time system seams to have issued rebuilt Bedford MWs with new Z numbers in a range starting Z16------ and my own Bedford MWR was rebuilt post war as 34RD84 i have also found several Bedford MWs which were rebuilt several times post war on each occasion a new number being issued , my 80" landrover also had a MoS rebuild but retained its original census number ,at what mileage/age were these rebuilds carried out ,are the vehicles striped completely with each component being reworked to as new specification ,if this is the case either they used a very good parts storage system or all of our vehicles are just a collection of the finished parts that reached the end of the rebuild process at same time as the chassis ,after the rebuild what was the expected mileage/reliability for the new vehicle ,was the same system used war time continued post war ,would the large scale rebuild program have finished with the end of the MoS in 1959
  2. Hi this is an interesting question i do not think i have seen a restored MWC with its original pto driven pump and fittings there seam to be a great number of different pto drives which will fit the Bedford gear box most of which are not war time fittings the correct pto drive for the MWR is shown in the first photo . The control linkage comes into the cab as the small button on the floor which is pulled up to engage the pto looking in the Bedford mw parts book lists a pto assembly only for the MWR is it possible that the company which built the water tank and assembled the truck also supplied the pto hence it not being listed in the Bedford parts book ?
  3. The 28 HP Bedford engine when fitted in the 15 cwt Bedford MWR uses a different type of distributor with two sets of points and no vacuum advance /retard .would this be because it was a screened distributor although it would still be expected to perform on the road the same as any other Bedford 15 cwt . Nicky
  4. Hi Andy Thanks for the info but its too late now as i have removed all soldered plugs from the redundant B set holes ,things are starting to come together ,having managed to find the B set tuning wheel , volume control and aerial plug but i am still looking for the other parts ,the face of the set is going to be repainted and remarked and i will change the date on the face to before the date the B set was declared obsolete. thanks for the info though . Nicky
  5. Can you help i am looking to replace the missing B set parts which were removed from the set in the photo they would have been removed when the set was rebuilt in the 1950s . the parts i need are the aerial plug for the B set (are the A and the B set aerial plugs the same ). B set tuning dial adjustment screw to stop the B set whistling. volume control for B set on/off switch for B set i am also looking for the missing knob for the slow motion control on the a set the parts do not need to be in working condition just the correct ones as the set is used for a signals office display with my Bedford MWR at shows
  6. Simon I have a Canadian EMER for wireless set cdn no .19 mk3 and ancillary equipment this is more a parts book for the Canadian 19 set and it gives a description of connector co-axial no 10 being lead from the set to variometer which beaks down to parts list giving a cable length of 42 " i would think the one for the British set would be the same length Nicky
  7. Hi Simon i have managed to refit both sets of screws to the 19 set in my MWR it is very difficult and you will need a lot of patience ,if you remove the complete slow motion drive (the adjuster under the dial )and take out the screw holding the knob in the centre of the dial you can lift off the dial and see the four holes in the two plates i dont think the threaded holes will be stripped you will just be using the wrong holes ,i found that when refitted all the screws do not sit at the same height Nicky
  8. Sorry Danny not quite sure as to what you mean by how many digits in the catalogue ref ? the full contract number is 294/23/S8216 Nicky
  9. The copy's of the missing contract number cards are out there some ware, the ones we have found came from the tank museum but they only had copy's of 34 cards i have list of 69 Bedford mw contract numbers all taken from the lists of contract numbers shown in the various Bedford parts books ,your date of 1945 is probably correct as it is not shown in list in the December 1944 parts book but is on the list in the 1946 book ,any leads to the location of missing Bedford contract cards would be a big help ,we are also looking for the Bedford wartime factory production lists showing chassis numbers built as at present there is noway to link a chassis /engine number to specific contract other than if the truck has retained its original contract plate. Nicky
  10. The contract number S-8216 is a Bedford contract number it is listed in the 1946 parts book but that is all info i have on that contract there are at least 69 Bedford contract card to date the Bedford MW face book group have located copys 34 of the contract cards but this one of the 35 missing contract cards we are still trying to trace . Danny has your truck by any chance still got its original contract plate fitted . Nicky
  11. sorry Simon i cannot help as the one i got for my truck is still on the shelf awaiting restoration if you take any photos or have to get any parts please post them on here to prevent us covering the same ground again the only reference to this i have found is in the parts book is that what you are using Nicky

  14. Excellent work another step in the right direction Nicky
  15. sorry we must have created too much interest in it , it says on the listing that they can now ship overseas ,i know that this item has also been mentioned on Maple leaf up Nicky
  16. Too early for my truck but must be of interest to some one on here i know how hard i looked for the no 5 charging board not too sure how to post the e-bay link but you should find it from this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Charging-Switchboard-No-1-1940-military-radio-WW2-battery-supply-WS-19-/121948373528?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 Nicky
  17. well done ,yes there were some excellent photo opportunity's if you waited your time and let the public get out of the way a very enjoyable event Nicky
  18. First trip out of the year to Crich tramway museum in Derbyshire to a 1940s week end the roof rack and the radio aerials are still to be fitted to the truck as i don't think they would have got on very well with the tram wires The nights were very cold for camping can ask our radio experts for some help i need to have made a COVER WATERPROOF NO 5 (the British version) i have been through the limited number of photos of this i can find and Simon Thompson kindly sent me a sketch of his cover but i am still not sure i have all the information i need, some of the photos show a hole in the top of the cover for the set aerial i also need some more information or better drawing of the detail of how the cover is made to fit around the carrying handles for the radio sledge what are the markings on the cover do all the covers have the loops stitched into the front and side for the aerial wires
  19. Hi Peter That s pretty bad the rust has taken a lot of the sealing surface for the head gasket away at the top of the bore is it going to be possible to have liner made with a step at the top to make good the seal at the top of the bore . Nicky
  20. Andy photos of door as promised if you look at the photo above there two extra screw holes (the shiny bits ) they had self tapping screws going in to the cross brace on the wood frame i think they may have been added to stop the door skin drumming on the frame Nicky
  21. Hi Peter i had the block on my MWR fitted with liners (i had water damage in one of the bores that when the company i use for machining were boring the block to see what size oversize pistons we could use the water damage had created a hard spot in the steel ) took a bit of research to find a modern liner of the correct dimension that could be modified to suit the Bedford block ,is the engine original to the truck ,if you decide to stick with this engine i can let you have there contact details Nicky
  22. (I gave up writing for Windscreen several editors ago as the stuff I write is "too detailed") Clive windscreen is exactly the place for your articles it was the detail which made the articles readable it lost a lot when you and John Mastrangelo stopped being included i got an email from a pal of the new editor asking for articles when he took over , i would have though they would have been falling over them selves to get you back on board ? Nicky
  23. Ian your only saying that because your truck was in the last edition ,but on a more serious note it must be hard to find content month after month Nicky
  24. If you find a better alternative please let us all know i get it on monthly subscription ,there are usually one or maybe two reasonable articles every month have you tried the MVT magazine . Nicky
