  1. Cheers Chris, yes, I could do with a Vinyl for the jeep at some stage, what sort of money would I be looking at? Simon
  2. Hi all, this is my restored Sankey, I could really do with your help! Firstly, does anyone know the age? Am I right in thinking it is a Narrow track? Also, what is that flap for at the back? Veh no. 41 ET 22 - chassis 2012 - contract no WV/5307 - CODE 2855, 0790
  3. It's about time for an update, I have been making more repair sections and I have been struggling with the ribs on pieces like the floors. Previously I was cutting and welding strips on, while this looked ok, its was proving costly with regards to fabrication time. I don't want to use flat sheet, as it wont look right so when it started raining today I got in the garage to make up a tool that would allow me to stamp the ridges in. I look an old MUTT layshaft and made it into a punch/die, later I will invert that shape into a length of hard wood, clamp the work to it and tap down the ridge with the punch.. Hopefully it will work! I will upload pictures when I make a floor pan, I am just waiting for it to stop raining! Here are a couple of pictures of the part finished battery tray I made yesterday, I know it is not true to original, this is because I decided to custom make a tray that took the largest modern day batteries that would fit in the box for ease of replacement. I intend to weld an arch on the front of the tray, underneath the car so the tray has protection from things catching on it when off-road - I have also used a heavier gauge steel for this area for durability. I will upload another picture of it completely finished.
  4. I feel pretty sorry for the guy in it, I bet he was never the same again! loosing control of something like a t54 would be pretty terrifying, especially when its going backwards so you can't even see what/who your about to destroy!
  5. Nothing to do with a damp environment, I reckon its all the rust spreading up the hill from your yard of jozz. :-D
  6. Thanks, Ive just sent him an email, will let you all know the result! I do Love my Mutts I'm afraid, the champ is quite an awesome bit of (over) engineering though! It will get it garaged up in a month or so when the weather starts to turn and I'll start a new resto thread.
  7. Welcome! there is a great deal of knowledge on this site, you've come to the right place!
  8. Great thread, hats off to you for restoring a vehicle that would frighten many people away. keep up the good work.
  9. Not really sure what to do with it at the moment, as you say, it seems a shame to paint it. I will get it running hitch it to a M416 and use it to ferry parts and tools about the field for the mean while. I've still got 2 mutts under restoration so after a bit of tinkering, the champ will be on the back burner for a month or two! the speedo reads about 5000miles, The old boy it came from said it never did a lot, apparently it was bought for periodically shunting boats about the yard, then eventually, it ended up getting laid up in a barn for at least a couple of decades.
  10. Wow! I can't believe that!! Hirst's are only about 2miles down the road! how ironic it ends up surviving and 44years later, ends up a couple of miles down the road!
  11. Great choice! what a gorgeous car, always remember the massive axle tramp when he did the backwards wheel spin in the car chase!
  12. The plates read: 'please quote vehicle no. WN1 5702' Chassis no: 57 02 Vehicle no: 57 BE 02 6/veh/5531
  13. I believe so, Its in the field now, will have a look when I walk the dogs tonight.
  14. Not Joe Hirst? Ran the scrap yard just out of Whitchurch, Hampshire? thanks for the info, great!!
  15. Hi all, I bought what looks to me, to be quite an original champ, It was put in a barn and has been forgotten for over 20years, I wondered if anyone recognizes the vehicle at all, or could give me an idea what the markings denote. I am guessing '1308' is an sale number. Took some pictures today.
  16. I bought a film in tesco a while back, 'the final sacrifice' un fortunately it was so awful I have blanked most of it out of my head but I seem to recall it being the worst war film I have ever seen.
  17. Welcome, look forward to reading your future posts, Simon.
  18. Cheers, I didn't realise you could work it out that way, about 336ft lbs. Simon.
  19. Hi can anyone tell me how much torque the Rolls Royce K60 multi-fuel produces? I can't find much information on the net.
