  1. Thanks for the information. Alas I have searched for it briefly and it doesn't look like it is available anymore. Is the remnant you have in commercial packing? If so could you send me a photo of it so that I can have a good description to work from. I'll let you know how I get on in terms of an alternative.
  2. Hi, I'm re-assembling the turret plate on my Saracen and I note all the bolts had a putty like material over them no doubt to waterproof the roof. Does anybody know what this material is and if I can buy it, or if there is suitable modern day alternative? Silica seal is not suitable as it sets. Photo of one of the bolts with putty on is attached. Thanks
  3. Thought it would be nice to Hot Rod my Saracen. I have two options, spoked wheel or staying British with MG wheels! Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk

  5. Cheers Will give it a go. I'm stripping this one for spares, the inside has already been stripped so hopefully it should be a straight forward case of undoing the bolts from inside! Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk
  6. I'm in the process of stripping a saracen and in particular the wheel stations. I've got most of it off and unloaded the torque shaft and got to the point shown in the photo. I have no problem taking out the bottom pins and brackets but can anyone tell me how i should remove the top torque shaft safely? Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk
  7. In the end i made the component parts myself and got it professionally welded. Professional workshops were quoting £400+vat to make. I estimate mine was less than £100 all up! Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk
  8. Hi All, I'm in the process of stripping my Saracen and the next stage is removing the wheel stations and suspension and in particular the torsion bars. Clearly the torsion bars are under considerable load. I note there is a special tool to remove these torsion bars (see below) detailed in V613 Technical Handbook - Unit repairs. I guess 3 questions; 1. Does anybody know if I can buy one from somewhere? 2. Does anybody know of a company who can make one? 3. What alternative methods have folks been using if they don't have this tool (with destroying vehicle parts)
  9. Hi All, Totec tyres have just received a new batch of the Bar Grip tyres and I would like to put them on my Land Rover 101 ambulance to keep it looking authentic. However, they are not E marked. Can anybody tell me if that means they are not road legal? Thanks in advance
  10. Hi Richard, its not the same saracen, I also have a mkI that I'm stripping. All the internals have already been removed apart from the transfer/gearbox. I'm desperate to finish the strip before winter so I can spend the time in the garage refurbishing parts for fitment on the mk2 next spring! Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Hi, I'm trying to take the tracta drive shafts out of the centre bevel boxes in order to remove the gear box and I was wonder if anyone had the special tool ' 'Extractor FV121334', the drawing or could provide me with a dimensioned sketch so I can get one made? Additionally, has anyone made a tool for removing the torsion bars shown in V613. Cheers
  12. I'm just about to remove my first Saracen bevel box and I think I have undone everything. However it won't come out easily. I'm wondering it is mechanical attached to the gearbox or whether it is just the sealant between the bevelbox and the hull. Thought I would ask before taking to it with a crow bar! Thanks in advance.
  13. I registered my 1956 mk2 saracen with the dvla no problem. I took along the registration of a similar vehicle which gave them confidence they weren't setting a precedence. It is registered as a historic vehicle with a revenue weight of 10200kg. I can drive it on a car licence (gained 1987).
  14. Thanks for the info. It is an original unmolested example and will remain so as long as I own it!
  15. Hi, I've just bought a land rover 101. I want to get hold of the military record card, history of the vehicle and any in service photos. The current reg is FWD 619Y and its military registration was 72 GJ 47. Can anyone help? many thanks in advance
  16. Hi All, I'm just about to replace my first saracen wheel station and was wondering if anybody has a copy of the appropriate procedures that they could email me? I believe they are; EMER WHEELED VEHICLES V 613 Unit Repairs V 614 Part 1. Field Repairs V 614 Part 2. Base Repairs thanks in adavance!
  17. I'm currently restoring a two saracens and I keep finding that whenever I need to touch an electrical cable particularly when they are external to the hull, then they disintegrate. Where I can buy NOS I will but I was wondering if there are any suppliers out there who can provide the armoured cables and associated connectors or indeed someone who can make new ones up? cheers in advance
  18. Hi, Does anyone know if you can fit a B80 engine into an commercial engine stand, such as the one shown below? Thanks in anticipation:D
  19. I found this photo when trawling the web and it may be my Saracen (right at the back of the photo). The regiment and time seem to tie in with the record card! http://news.webshots.com/photo/2806653690034109588fjdhxL
  20. Thanks Peter that is really interesting! What is a VHF Saracen? Is it a special fit out?
  21. Great stuff and thanks chaps, these are good leads to pursue! Is it time to do another call for Saracen photos for the gallery?
  22. There you go, this was a photo taken last year. As you can see it needs a lot of work but I'm getting there little by little. Currently the turret is off and I giving it a full refurbishment. Is there a Saracen gallery on this site?
  23. Hi Monty, I have a copy of this!! I just can't help thinking that there must be ex-servicemen floating about who served in these vehicle. I wonder how the link can be made....... Thanks for your help
  24. Hi All, I'm trying to find out about my Alvis Saracen MkII, 96 BA 69 built in 1956. I have the record card starting from 6 July 71. I was hoping to contact ex-service men who may have served in it to build a better picture of its history. 1971 - 17 BVD Stock BOAR 1972 - 17/21 Lancers BAOR 1974 - 16/5 Lancers BAOR 1976 - VD Lugdgershall 1976 - 34 Central Workshop REME 1977 - VD Ludgershall 1978 - Ord Depot Antwerp BAOR 1986 - QM Ord Dep Antwerp BAOR 1992 - Retired from Army Any ideas?
