  1. I think that a well done all round is in order for the chaps and chapesses, we do follow stuff from here being halfway down the left side of France. It's very pleasing to see what you have built up to, long may it continue. HMVF has also reminded me that I seem to be a year older today, Hmmmmmmm. Congrats to all and best wishes, R.
  2. Brilliant job Ian, it's gone further and faster than I could have ever imagined, all credit to the team, helpers and the direction/cohesion from the chair I think. There are always problems, only when nothing happens there are no problems, c'est la vie. It going well here, albeit slightly enforced imprisonment while the wheels of officialdom grind slowly away, as they do since the country is rather besotted with bureaucracy and certainly loves paperwork. But we move into our new house on July 27th. . . . . Don't want to put detail here and/or clog the board up but I have a virgin address for you and a works one too, I'll try a direct mail to both. R.
  3. I have to admit to a wry smile at this oxymoron when thinking about a MV show! Quite right. Some do though and have the documents. Far more importantly however, a huge well done to the committee and crew at SOE for a brilliant series of Overlord Shows from a difficult beginning that some of us know only too well. As a ROF now in foreign parts, I am very proud and pleased with what the team has achieved. R. (Chuffed in France.)
  4. My large tomes of "Wireless for the Warrior" are packed and hundreds of miles away, however, Google is your friend, try "wireless set No.17" quite a lot of gen Richard. Richard.
  5. Wouldn't know about the rain Clive, mostly hot and sunny here! I'm a HF SSB person and one of the attractions where we have bought and move to on 27 July is a view to the horizon in all directions, nearest neighbour 650m plus away and just over 1Ha to put in big loops and the tower/HF beam without having every council jobsworth and an army of neighbours around your neck; quite apart from all the Chinese SMPS and plasma TV noise. Crikey, I might even get Mrs. N to use her G1 call for once in a lifetime. . . . . . . . You'll regret giving a lathe away. . . . . . . .I can find someone your end who would likely be very happy to relieve you of TWTs and WG stuff. All the best R.
  6. CRIKEY! Never knew that Clive. R. (G3ZOE, active, but rigs packed for move, shortly F5VL? probably)
  7. A few are coming from here with Stalwart, Striker and Haflinger; also rumour has it that our Clive may well attend too which will cheer up the proceedings even if it does rain. However, weather looks better but aways the chance of a momentary downpour.
  8. Dear Mr. Pearson,Please note that I will not be goaded into an impromptu response with fallacious and facetious comments that frankly sound much like the paper communications from some members of a certain CoM, but under different names. Please also note I have been obliged to respond to your denigrating post at a little after 05:30, such are the other pressures curently extant. I am much obliged for your consideration and patience concerning events of nearly four years ago.
  9. Certainly, however, I will still draft and refine the points and events from the documents here to make an accurate and concise précis. It is not quite so simple as you might imagine. Secondly, I am almost overloaded with work just at present, having two formal jobs, so some prioritising will have to be done I'm afraid, however, it is not on the back burner.
  10. Calm down!!!!!!Its been done before when I was a pre-motorbike teenager, like 1960, by John Dodd. Remember it well. http://www.spainvia.com/Merlincar.htm
  11. Hmmmm, maybe you perhaps need to scroll up a bit and re-read my comments of June 10, Reply 31. You shouldn't have to provide your own and perhaps, being cynical, it's just what you show-makers are being "encouraged" to do such that one substantial overhead can be contained or converted into some (more) profit. Back in 2002/3 I had a long exchange with the W&P spi. . . .PR department, it makes interesting reading but this is not the thread for it, I will publish it verbatim if Jack allows and suggests an appropriate section.
  12. Yes I will. It is going to take a little time because I cannot deluge you all with the amount of paperwork but I do need to make an unbiased, unemotive and balanced précis of it with the salient points/statements and ensure leaving stuff out doesn't skew the history.
  13. Yes I can, and at some length with an inch and a half of documentation to support the case since I am one of the three, and the then serving chairman, summarily expelled from the other organisation (I/we may not use the term as defined in writing by their secretary). However, two things; firstly the original group was dissolved by the national organisation some time before me or the members were informed; there was no intention of a breakaway by me or the members. Secondly, I defer to Jack, this may not be an appropriate vehicle to make an explanation and Jack may not want the issue publicised herein.
  14. Thank you. It makes it all worthwhile. We choose to take the more expensive option of daily on-site toilet attendant + vehicle rather than a single daily service, I see last year's invoice is right next to me here: £302 +VAT/day just for the attendant, well worth it. Its a fact, line up all manner of fascinating vehicles, tanks and hundreds of stalls but people will remember the toilets first and foremost! Its the MOPs and traders that allow it to happen so we have to consider them too. Big difference between Beltring and Overlord: Beltring is a for-profit, commercial business, I have that in writing from the producers. Overlord is staged and run by 6 un-paid MV enthusiasts from a small, local MV Club. Yup, one weekend either way and it would have been idyllic, but this is England of course. Met Office reported 50mph in actuallity which is a bit unexpected for May/June and puts it in the F9, gusting F10 bracket; we even had some official and huge army 12 x 12 sledge-hammered pins pull out such was the force. Much appreciated, I will take all these kind comments back to the committee and members, many thanks.
  15. Its your truck and you can use what you like. AP Lockheed will not have anything to do with the stuff and say this: "Our technical department receive an alarming number of calls from motorists reporting troubles with silicone brake fluid. AP Lockheed neither markets such fluids nor recommends their use with our own or any other braking system. Virtually all the problems relate to long /spongy pedal, sudden loss of brakes, hanging on of brakes; they reflect certain properties of silicone fluid noticed by us over the years and recently ratified by SAE publications , namely :- high ambient viscosity, high air absorption, high compressibility, low lubricity, immiscibility with water." You cannot mix the types but after flushing with methylated spirits you can use either separately and the seals are compatible with either type. Silicone does not entrain water but will allow condensate to gather as drops causing corrosion, should this get to a wheel cylinder the boiling point is substantially lowered and may be dangerous. If the conducted heat from the shoe (but far worse with a disc piston) boils a drop of water you will have a gas (steam) and suddenly a pedal on the floor. This is what killed Princess Grace of Monaco (Grace Kelly) before the days of understanding even with regular brake fluid, but of course when investigated, and the steam had recondensed by cooling, the vehicle brakes were found to be in order. As you see AP Lockheed also cite viscosity, compressability, air entrainment and lack of lubrication. Ordinary DOT 4 or 5 fluid is intended to entain water so there is never any large droplets to cause trouble, however, as you can see in any passenger car service schedule, the fluid should be replaced every 3 years to ensure the water retainment properties are not exceeded. I would think it wise to treat silicone fluid similarly and this somewhat negates the hype surrounding it. Its a pity that diaphragms allowing volume changes without having the master cylinder reservoirs open to atmosphere are not used, modern motorbikes with hydraulic brakes (have to) have these and so do not suffer any water problems. Your choice really as the opposing DOT 4 vs Silicone camps are very polarised.
  16. The very best stuff is two pack chromate etch (900), its the greeny-yellow stuff you see in alloy aircraft parts. You simply mix the base and acid 1:1 resulting in a watery mixture which needs lightly spraying and its sometimes quite difficult to see where you've been! Unfortunately the dear EU has removed it from the market because it works brilliantly but they don't like the chromate bit, however, you can get it from the aero suppliers because its absolutely non-replaceable for aircraft. Light Aero of Shebbear in Devon will do it but its something like 60 quid + VAT and carriage for 5L. http://www.northdevon.gov.uk/index/lgcl_business/nonlgcl_business_promotion_details.htm?businessid=CE51251F-4DC5-40D3-BA24-0070A1A1B362 A proper industrial mask is ESSENTIAL, the acid element will dry your lungs and choke you very quickly and the chromate element is probably nasty too, however, I have used the stuff daily for 2 years and haven't died yet. From one of the larger, proper commercial suppliers you can still get two pack acid etch but chronate free (903) and usually grey, it is not quite as good but still heaps better than any single part "etch" primers. Try Chromadex. The biggest problem with this stuff is it is exactly the same colour as freshly blasted steel. . . . . . . . . With both you need it to stand for 10 mins before use to activate and left-overs should be discarded after some 24hrs. Overcoat with regular paint in 24hrs too or adhesion will reduce.
  17. Well, I trust Darren and I will have the pleasure of your company Clive. Not having to organise this one :-) I should have plenty of time to make tea and natter for once. I admire your fortitude in driving the Pig all the way there and back; we shall let Malcolm's 45' trailer take the Striker, Stalwart, Jeep and Mudflinger. R.
  18. And here it is: http://www.heathenworld.com/swastika/trees.html
  19. Well, you have me wound up now Jack. . . . . . . . . Its encouraging to see that the "eccentrics" doing odd things like operating old army trucks are not easily fooled like the rest of the sheep we seem to have for a population. The whole thing has clearly been shown to be the biggest heap of BLX (capital B and two L's if Jacks naughty word filter would allow) imaginable having been cynically used by Dame Thatcher to justify the building of nuclear power stations and then the rest of the world's fashionable greenies and do-gooders hopped on the bandwagon followed by the "consultant" industry seeing a good profit opportunity. By this time the govt also saw a huge tax revenue opportunity too, both from the new industry and the private person and it behoves them to keep or increase the momentum, so here we are. For those of us that have a life beyond the pub on Friday and football on Saturday it is plainly obvious that the world is, was and will be driven by the sun and if we want to talk of greenhouse gasses then CO2 falls a very poor second indeed to water vapour, perhaps the exceedingly vocal environmentalists and the rest of the CO2 industry should look at providing a sun screen over the world's oceans, closing all power stations and their huge cooling towers, making all cooking illegal and stopping mankind from breathing. We'd be a bit short of rain though. Clearly, many of the world renown scientists saw through the façade after the first meetings but some had to resort to the courts to have their names removed from the wholly flawed shock/horror papers, plus the founding father of Greenpeace resigned over the issue for the same reasons. It is supreme arrogance to think the insignificantly puny efforts of mankind have any effect on the natural global systems being powered by the sun and as has been stated, just one volcanic eruption, a totally natural event, has millions of times more effect in a few days than man has ever, or will likely, achieve. These pustules on the face of the planet are relatively common and will erupt liquid rock and ash with the force of several terra-horsepower of their own accord. We should bear in mind that government is staffed with weasel-word engineers chosen for loyalty, gender or race in various measures, they generally have no formal qualifications in any of their technical areas of "responsibility" and do massage and/or ignore scientific input as it suits them and their agenda. Of note that the really important fiscal matters are now, correctly, handled by The Bank of England who do know what they're doing but then of late Parliament has voted to make everyone else open with freedom of information except themselves. There must be a few old farts around these parts that can remember; the environmental scare-mongering is nothing new, we had it in 1974 using up tons of newsprint and hours of largely B&W TV, behold the coming of the second Ice Age about now. We're still waiting. Remember how we were all being destroyed by "leaded" fuel, dreadful stuff that is destroying our children's brains they said, quite right too lead does that. Tetra-ethyl lead as a chemical compound doesn't though and when converted to lead oxide (abrasive jewellers' rouge) and immediately catalysed by the necessary chlorine or bromine in the combustion process simply forms a water soluble lead halide that washes out of the environment, cannot be taken up in the food chain and doesn't get into anyone's brain. You probably didn't know this, no matter, no reason to be told having swallowed the Govt line. But wait, let's make catalytic converters a legal requirement, we can tax those through the increased vehicle costs and as they catalyse stuff to CO2 we can tax that too, brilliant. Of course the only spec for catalysers was the Californian model, and this requires a start soak of 20ºC min for 2 hours. You may have noticed that England is a bit different from CA and so for 6 months of the year, like winter, your cat is doing nothing whilst crawling in jams; well, not really nothing but wasting some 8% of the engine output. Its not a problem as the extra fuel used means more tax. Ever wondered why your garage man advises thrashing the car immediately before the MoT and then runs it for some time in a warm garage before doing the exhaust sniffer test? Jack's quite right and he's a better writerist than I too, don't even worry about using the stuff up, refined fuel is still second only to water for quantity and we can always cover more of the country with the yellow flowering oil seed rape that does my nose in and grow fuel if we have to. I have one MV friend in Kazakhstan as they're making holes in the Caspian Sea for oil and another at Fawley where not only are they making it faster than the pipe can get it to Heathrow but sending 300,000 tons of refined US spec petrol a week to the Yanks who are short of 6 refineries after the hurricanes. But, I can be as cynical and crafty as the esteemed Govt, the two of us have an escape plan funded by taking all our pension from the parsimonious institutions and doing it ourselves, bit of extra work but better than the 7% institutional profit (they pocket everything over that) when you can have whatever you can make and currently that's 42%pa, about 2½ years and we're off to 300 days of sunshine a year, 5% income tax, petrol at £2 a gallon, council tax of £50pa and baccy ¼ the price; only 4hrs flying away too. The point is, that one area of excellent returns is the great edifice of the CO2 industry, if the world is silly enough to generate such a profit making business then I'll have some of it, thank you very much, keep supporting the myth. Hey, its my birthday on Tuesday, one step closer. Thanks Jack, I got up far too early for a Sunday with nothing to do, time for the 4th mug of tea and ciggy I think; then I'll turn my big and dozy black cat upside down and give her a good tummy tickling, always feel better after that.
  20. Forget the vehicles; if mankind and all its trappings were scrapped tomorrow the CO2 drop would be. . . . . . . . . . . 0.0015%pa.
  21. Oh dear, that's regrettable but how life is. Shoulda grabbed someone in a hi-vis with a wireless or called into the booking-in tent similarly; of course if its when traders are arriving then its all go and the quad is indispensible for us old farts. It's only got a 100cc lump but I used almost 2½ galls of fuel and it does become almost like a time machine in that you can almost be everywhere at once and available for fixing stuff. The usual trick is to take your life in your own hands, just stand in front with an arm out, usually stops me. . . . . . . . . . :-D We really have to get this R Cubed right don't we; simply ALT+0179 on the numeric kbd so, R³, easy peasy!!! (or you can use the handy format buttons at the top provided by Jack ;-) ) I really appreciate the thanks that Grasshopper and others here have taken the time to record, and I will pass it onto the team and the club in general; you cannot imagine, unless you have been on the other side as it were, how rewarding and fulfilling this is. Thank you for coming along and making a show for us. Perhaps as probably in the top ten, or even maybe No.1 old fart here I can tell you from experience it is always in your best interests in any walk of life to take a moment to thank people who have done something for you, it goes a lot further than imagined and stands in good stead for later. Best find some RSN12Y plugs, they'll cure a multitude of problems. The other option is to remove the two distributor cable flanges, drill out the holes to accept nylon cable sealing bushes like these polyamide ones http://www.maplin.co.uk/searchtemplate.asp?criteria=WATERPROOF%20CABLE%20GLANDS and simply use regular plug leads and NGK BP6ES with sealed caps like these:http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/pricing/ngk_plug_caps.htm
  22. Ithankyou! Ooops!   Me too, much to my chagrin and see how close our Clive was to the Show Sec caravan. . . . . . . Not only Clive's very rare Pig but Clive himself, a person we're always glad to see who always lifts as with both the freely given and vast scope of mil info plus his personal tales of this and that which make even a wet weekend huge fun. Its my belief that not all you post war guys realise what an asset it is to have our Clive in these parts, much appreciated from here I can tell you. It did need a moments fettling by our Darren of the Striker, 434 and Lux 101 followed by a bucket of amps from my 623 alternator; then all was well again. I understand Clive had a water emergency at home and sadly had to leave before I had a chance for a protracted session. Well, we had some contacts with the PWRR, formerly The Hampshire Regiment. A free-fall drop was scheduled by the PWRR Tigers Team for Sunday but the weather stopped that of course and I find the 2IC of this team is a staunch member of the SBG and spent the weekend wearing a different uniform! Good stuff, come back and see us next year!!
  23. Most certainly is!I'll send the full size jpeg shortly.
  24. Hmmmm Stollies, I have a slightly artistic shot of 20ET51 on Dartmoor, any use?
