  1. Cheers for those possible cures, employed several and now she seems to idle and run fine in situ, not which one cured it. Will have to test her on the road up hill in the nest week.
  2. Cheers for the welcome guys, and yes i love American cars including V8s. Attached are photos of the toys.
  3. G-day guys, a Kiwi Gunner here. Speaking of the L118/9 we had ours made under licence the Royal Ordnance by the Australians when they made thiers. As usual the Kiwi talking heads in parliament and HQ ensured ours were made first before the Aussies made the ones for them so ours had all the teething problems AND when the Aussies made thiers they did widen the wheelbase so they dont have to remove the LBM operator sides wheel to bring the piece from the travelling to in action position. The L118 uses Abbot ammo (Different shaped cart case and therefore Chamber) but yes the L119 uses the same M1 ammo as the L5 pack. The cart case brought back from the Falklands by a previous poster is what we call spiral wrap and is not all that good for carrying out loading drills on your display L5 due to the parting experienced (Increasing width) by the cart case once fired so are prone to "Hang up" on entry to the breech, best get some brass casses. I have an incomplete L5 which i am hunting for bits for, but there are quite a few L5 at returned services clubs (Like the foriegn legion clubs in UK) in NZ all de-activated, but only 3 others complete and operable in civvy hands. Attached should be a shot of the old girl in my garage and on display at a local museum display day. I have been collecting as much of the associated stores and items seen on a L5 Gun position of the 80s when i was using them in service and have just recently completed the sighting equipment and paraleloscope.
  4. yes the L5 at Picton is not too bad. I served on these back in the 80s and actually have an incomplete one in the garage that i am slowly finding missing parts for. Yes they do strip down but the parts are a damn sight heavier than the 12 men (Only seven on a crew) can man handle too far LOL.
  5. G-day all, i have not been on the forum for ages and cant remember if i did an intro so here goes. I own a July 1943 Willys MB (A Pacific Theatre Veteran of the US Navy and Royal NZ air force) which is on the road and a 42/43 Ford GPW which is made up of several vehicles under restoration. I have a 43 Bantam Trailer on the road as well as a 43 Dodge WC51 Weapons carrier. Although not a vehicle as such i also have an incomplete L5 Pack Howitzer in garage which i am slowly finding the missing parts for. I served on these when i first joined the Royal NZ Artillery back in the 80s. I also collect WW2 Kiwi and American Uniform, weapons, kit and radio gear as well as the same items relating to the 16th Field regiment RNZA from the Vietnam era to the 1980s when the L5 pack howitzer went out of service being replaced by our current equipment the L119 Light gun. Cheers
  6. I seem to be having a similar problem with my WC51. On an ANZAC day excursion, after running well for a year she decided to suddenly run rough as and backfire alot. She now does not want to idle without full choke or alternately throttle being out and lacks power on the upgrades or when being worked. I have checked the carby and other than it being a little wet at the lower housing (Has the carby for a Chev Cargo on her) that is all good. Replaced/gapped plugs, checked air/fuel mix, checked gap and cleaned points, replaced manifold gasket (As noticed it had blown), new exhaust pipe to manifold, cleaned air filter to ensure good air flow through there.. I dont have a timing light but have used my eye-crometer, what else could i check.
  7. G-day Ian Bugger the south island mate , we could do with you up here in Auckland haha, we have plenty more vehicles to work on also in the Fleet of our New Zealand Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.
  8. Hopefully a few pics will be attached below. The Skippy towing the L5 belongs to a local museum. We are looking for a Slipper, trigger mech, breech block (We have the ring) and firing internals and LBM for the L5 cant mount the propper barrel or muzzle brake yet without the slipper.
  9. G-day guys. I am an owner of a Dodge 1943 WC51, 43 Willys MB, and am restoring a 42 Ford GPW presently. I also have a Bantam T3 Trailer that is on the road a Willys MBT awaiting restoration and an L5 pack Howitzer that i am restoring (Looking for Trigger and firing mech bits and a slipper) I am a committee member of the New Zealand wing of the Commemorative Air force, and on Committee of the Royal NZ Artillery Association (I'm ex Guns). I collect WW2 and Vietnam era Kiwi and American artillery uniform and equipment, plus the odd bit of British and german gear. See you on the boards Colin
