  1. Deuceman and I had a bit of fun aboard a plane a couple of years ago; Keep 'em Rolling S.
  2. Oh dear.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1980-MITSUBISHI-JEEP-diesel-2-5-l-better-then-Willys_W0QQitemZ270285530721QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270285530721&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  3. Hi All, I have the pair of lamps as shown in the pictures. Does anyone know what kind of vehicle are they from, and how would they have been used? Given the 'handle' at the back of each, I have assumed (dangerous, I know...) that they were mounted on a wrecker, or recovery vehicle, but could be un-mounted and used 'hand held' for repair work in the field etc. As you can see, they are manufactured by Guide in the US, and have the ID number 107406G. Thoughts anyone? Keep 'em Rolling S.
  4. ...holding Keith's; they've become very close since Route to Victory...... Keep 'em Rolling S.
  5. Looking like a sack of.....? You be the judge :-D Keep 'em Rolling S.
  6. I'm wondering whether the waist and chest measurements quoted are the right way round......? :-) Keep 'em Roly Poly S.
  7. There certainly is 'enthusiasm' involved; have a look at this clip; yours truly and 'Deuceman' on our flight; http://www.HMVFTV.com/watch/f977cb6d9da15b76c3f3/Watch Keep 'em Rolling S.
  8. Just to follow up on M5Clive's note; it is increasingly difficult (and not cheap) to get a flight in these old aircraft, but it is an experience that stays with you! It's not beyond the realms of possibility that with the ageing fleet of WW2 aircraft, it won't be too long before 'flight experiences' become just 'flight memories'..... As with many things, when the missus wants to know where $400 went, it's easier to obtain forgiveness than permission - take the chance when you can! M5Clive - you are still a jammy bug**r! :-) Keep 'em Rolling S.
  9. Depends on the vehicle it is mounted within...... what ya buyin' Jack? ;-) S.
  10. Hi All, Due to domestic commitments, I was only able to be in Wiltshire until Sunday morning, but I had a great time nonetheless. Here is a small collection of pictures. I will try and post a few more later. Hats off to the organising team of the Kennet Valley MVT. They pulled off a great event!! Cheers Keep 'em Rolling S. Picture descriptions; 1.View from Paul Shepherdson's MB on Saturday convoy 2.General Patton inspects the line 3.Jessie says 'follow me', but I was in front... 4.A stuffed dummy at Littlecoat House museum 5.Convoy - US style 6.Jack's Jimmy is broken 7.Jack thinks about maintenance issues 8.Thoughtful 9.Keith Brigstock manages his stress 10....and that's a camp erection!
  11. It's not luck, dear Jacko, it's not luck..... S.
  12. Hi Shirley , We went over to the Yankee Air Museum for their 'Thunder Over Michigan' show that year because of the assembly of B-17's. The show was predominantly a fund raiser as almost their entire collection had gone up in smoke earlier in the year. When we saw the chance for a flight...... well, what ya gonna do!!?? My comrade on the trip also snagged a flight in a B-24 the following day. I'm not sure how the operators compare, but my advice; DO IT! Here are a couple more photos from the flight; first one is yours truly in the bombers seat as we fly around Detroit, and the second is Neil Stevens enjoying the view out of the open top during the flight. The only tricky part was when I came back from the flight deck along the narrow 'bridge' over the bomb bay, and they opened the doors..... Keep 'em Rolling S.
  13. Aviation; here's one of my favourite pictures (and it ties in with the earlier thread about nose art). I took it while standing behind the pilot of 'Yankee Lady', the B-17 owned and operated by the Yankee Air Museum in Michigan, USA. On the ground, if you look closely, you can see 6 more B-17's parked up before the afternoon's display (an 8th B-17 came in the following day!!) Suffice it to say, it was some sight to see 8 B-17's flying in loose formation in the blue skies over Michigan. Keep 'em Rolling! S.
  14. Thanks Dave, Much appreciated Keep 'em Rolling S.
  15. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this story, but it seems most appropriate; have a look at; http://www.lisburntoday.co.uk/latest-national-news/Pledge-to-outlaw-39deactivated39-guns.3644582.jp and; http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=QYFFPUIZTCRIFQFIQMGCFFWAVCBQUIV0?xml=/news/2008/01/06/ncrime106.xml It looks like there will a renewed battle between legislators and re-enactors over the use/sale/display etc of Deac's. Thoughts on a postcard..... Keep 'em Rolling S. Mod Edit.. already a thread on this so have merged the topics .
  16. Amongst various dings and scars in the armour of my Scout Car, there is the clear evidence of 'missile impact' on the front roller of the M3A1 (see pics attached). It goes to show that the armour plating, even at 6mm, was probably a little thin and made things quite hairy for the occupants, even in the early stages of the war! Keep 'em Rolling S.
  17. Doh! I nearly got volunteered for something there.....! I have to admit no personal experience of stencil making, but as you see, I am prepared to talk a good game.... Mind you, how difficult can it be......? Jack, still don't know what you want stencilling Keep 'em Rolliing S.
  18. What are you looking for, Jack? I have a nice little US War Dept book giving the marking requirements for all manner of items, including vehicles, and with that info, you can make them yourself? I am of course assuming you want stencils for the Jimmy..... am I wrong? ;-) Keep 'em Rolling S.
  19. Thanks for the clarification, Jack. I have followed this thread with interest, and as a result, have actually changed my 'handle' (yes, I had a CB radio in the late seventies.....) from my real name, to 'Keep 'em Rolling'. I've made the change because, well, it's a bit of fun isn't it? That's the point; the hobby is supposed to be fun, as well as interesting and informative, and inclusive, and there is a danger that we can all get rather too serious about life! :-) Noting the earlier comment (and echoing other views) about 'credibility' of the forum in 'Clive D Stevens' opener, that credibility stems from members showing their real names; frankly, Clive D (where do these crazy names come from...? ) I do not believe this is necessarily the case. The credibility of the forum firstly comes from the depth and breadth of knowledge of many of the members of HMVF, secondly, from members' ability to put their hands up and ask for some help/guidance/information etc (yours truly well within this camp!), and thirdly, people having the comfort that they can express views/opinions on all manner of subjects (largely MV related, but not always). The credibility of the forum would only be in question if the collective knowledge of the group were wrong or misleading, or the expression of opinions was not tolerated. Individuals may sometime get it wrong, but there is enough 'self-maintenance' within the group to correct these situations; the forum therefore remains credible! As well as changing my 'screen name', I have added my real name, and regional location to my signature, so if any one wants to know where I am based, it's there. It might be useful for someone..... Anyway, just my opinion, YMMV! Keep 'em Rolling. S.
  20. Hi David, Can I add a 'me too' to the list? Thanks in advance Keep 'em Rolling S.
  21. So, you'll be wire-brushing your Banjo's with the Missus, then....? Many Happy Returns old chap ('old chap' being a term of affection rather than an observation on your great age.....) Keep 'em Rolling! S.
  22. How far do the records go back? S.
  23. Aw shucks, guys, thanks for your kind wishes. :-) Well now that I'm 21, I'm starting to feel a little old.... In celebration, I've treated myself to a Horn button for the White! Cheers S. P.S. I Do drink alcohol, Jack
