  1. Kerb weight is, as you say, just over the ton but with all the crap I carry in it I reckon 1.6 is a good guess;)
  2. If this question is in the wrong place I apologise. I have a Willys MB that I wish to take to shows far and wide across the country. I have a Discovery 300Tdi that has a 3.5t towing capacity and a nose weight of 150kg. The weight of the jeep is 1.6t or thereabouts and it is 11ft long by just under 5ft wide. I think that an Ifor Williams type flatbed trailer of over 2.6t gross would be best weightwise. What would be the best length trailer to buy to get the balance right? What does the 150kg nose weight mean?

  4. Not the answer I wanted to hear but what I was expecting to hear :-(
  5. Hi Nick, How did you come to this conclusion?
  6. Hi, My paper HGV3 licence ran out back in '93, not long after I left the TA. Is there any way that I can resurrect this licence under the new licencing laws and what hoops do I have to jump through to do it? A medical obviously but what else? Thanks in anticipation,
  7. This would have been really funny if he'd attached the cable to the next pylon and pulled that over!
  8. Pretty sure 37 Sig Regt (V) still had them late 84/early 85. We had one as a workshop truck and one that housed a D13 transmitter in my troop.
  9. I made my bustle rack for the jeep using a gas mig welder, and the results were quite satisfactory for a machinist operating a welder. However, if you really want to improve your amatuer welding skills, get yourself an auto-darkening face shield. It enables you to start and finish where you intend to and virtually erases the chance of arc-eye. Yes, they're expensive but the results speak for themselves. JMTPW
  10. Also beware of arranging your reg to look like a military plate. Got stopped by "venerable william" a few years ago and given a stern telling off. Luckily the letters were stuck on so we changed it back there and then.
  11. Hi Ashley, I hear what you're saying, I put it up to see what people thought. I bought it from a proper junk shop on one of the greek islands, a week or so ago. The island was invaded by the Germans in May 1941 and I think they left in September '44. It is slightly taller than the yank one and I reckon it would hold about 1.5 gallons/8 ltrs. There is a reinforcing cross strap on the bottom with a brass stud at the cross over that has a dull verdigris finish on it.I've been to this island many times and this is the only thing I've seen of this period, apart from scores of jeep trailers being used by the Greek armed forces of course :-D. 12. So did the German's have a similar code for buckets like these then?
  13. You could weld a tab to the pole and mount the mirror on that, just a suggestion
  14. Are they the same pcd as Series I,II &III Land Rovers? Only I've got five one piece rims with good tyres on that I don't need any more and would like to sell them to the biggest market available. Ta muchly, Lloyd

  16. Try this - nothing ventured,etc http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=73148 Happy Christmas :-D Lloyd
  17. Church Street Supplies at 327 Church St. , Lower Manhattan, NewYork is worth a visit for uniforms and vintage clothes. Don't expect to find too much in NY though, and don't expect it to be cheap.
  18. I've been trying to find this for a while now, that makes three
  19. I wasn't actually there when it happened,( I was in a broken down half-track(fuel filter problem)), but it had been drizzling earlier in the day and the tank just slid across the road on a corner and made contact with the front porch/house. If I recall correctly there wasn't too much damage to the actual brickwork but the porch was quite poorly :-). Apparently the property owner was a Stuart driver in the French Army so was probably a little more understanding than the average Jean Publique. In the CMV article "M8 Greyhound" is the guy stood in jeep D10 holding the .30 cal and I'm on the back of M8 C-2 hanging onto the .50 cal, and he wasn't hanging about :-o
  20. In New Amsterdam, As Berni says Grand Central is a must, i think thats where some of the scenes from " The Untouchables " was filmed', its more like a Cathedral than a station, and you don't see any trains :-o and there is a great restaurant down stairs Ground Zero, just because . . . Ellis Island, where all the immigrants used to land to get into the good ol' US of A The Old Town bar at 45E 18 st, just how a yank bar should be Pier 17/South Street Seaport for food and shopping There's a flea market on the weekend on 6th Ave at about 30th st if I remember rightly, where there might be some goodies Plenty, and I MEAN PLENTY, of shopping in Noho,Soho, Tribeca, etc, etc Do the tourist bus by all means but the Metro is fairly easy to use and a lot quicker I'm off out there at the end of the month for a week for a bit of shopping, and seeing as my girlfriend has dragged me around every shoe shop and fashion outlet in NY three times before its my turn to choose where we shop
  21. The Beemer may have got away but later that day one of the M5A1's hit a house and later in the week an M8 tagged a Renault Clio  http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/Evo500Lloyd/NormandyJuly2006108.jpg[/img]
  22. The three storey factory where my father worked in the late sixties burnt down, that was an old Birds custard fatory at Ashchurch, Glos. The word was that custard powder had got under the floor boards and somehow ignited, you could see it burning from miles away
  23. thanks everybody, been out today in the Jeep, its soooo much fun :-D and less chance of getting done for speeding than in my other toy (3.0 Opel) Lloyd theTaller
  24. I reckon they could be a pair of Dress shirt Cufflinks
  25. Hi everybody, Lloyd the Taller here ,(if you know M8Greyhound you'll have worked out why). I was a member years and years ago but dropped off the scene for about 15 years. I've just bought my first Jeep, a 1945 Willys MB, which is in very good condition and goes really well ( touches wood). Hope to take it abroad next year to Normandy, and maybe further, who knows?????? See ya later Lloyd
