  6. Well What a great weekend :-D Shame its over so quickly. Off road run went without a hitch though the forest was busy with mountain bikers / orienteers and we even spotted some lamas and a donkey and cart !!! 12 vehicles made the effort to attend and the weather was glorious :-D :-D :-D 30 mile run with only an M20 getting a tad too warm not bad. I'd like to take this chance to thank all those who helped make this event possible especially our 3 marshals who did a splendid job on the run. Then we come to the vintage rally held in the field by speech house hotel on the sunday and I have to say that was brilliant too after a break for a few years it was great to be back at this wonderfull venue set in the heart of the Forest of Dean again this is a laid back show and very friendly after a chilly night for those who camped on the field after the off road run we've enjoyed another lovely warm day chillin out :-D :-D :-D a lot of hard work went into making this such a nice show. Will post some film and pics ASAP. Will we do it all again next year ? well you'll have to wait and see I'm off to have a lie down !!!! RR. 12. Ok the brakes seem a tad better now but the engine still seems to run too hot and is still suffering from vapour lock symptoms :undecided: any ideas on prob cause ? have flushed block and rad checked crank breather hose and checked thermostat, could it be timing or have I overlooked something obvious :nut:
  13. Warm welcome Dave, whereabouts in goucestershire are you based ? RR.
  14. Thanks for that Pete just got back from Lancaster and its not suprising really :undecided: we will have to sort something local end July / Aug or else !!!! what d'reckon ? RR.
  15. Hi Al thanks matey, Though the work still continous, having sorted the clutch and took it for a spin to check it out, all ok now. I thought that the brakes should have a bit more fettling. Although they were ok I was not happy with them and had noticed brake fluid returning to the resevoir and having read through a number of articles on Champ master cylinders I realised something needed doing, the problem arose when I stripped the old MC down I had to use heat on the large rear nut to get it to release unfortuneatly unknown to me inside was a plastic spacer which holds one of the seals in place this slightly melted in the proccess reducing its length somewhat !! this meant the center seal was not performing correctly. melted bit !! I reassembled the MC with new seals not realizing as I do now that this spacer should be a certain length for the master cylinder to work correctly so have dug out another spare cylinder this time with a steel spacer and have rebuilt it as I think the two types I have differ because of the type of spacer used, looks like the plastic type is prob later type. shiny rebuilt MC MKII I hope this improves the performance of the brakes now, anybody out there got spare plastic spacer they don't need ? as I want to have a spare MC just in case .

  20. Well I like the easy option besides being a carpenter I'm rather attached to my fingers so to say popped over to Mum and dads for lunch today so it was easy to pick up the hoist and it really was usefull as its a tight fit to get the box backinto position as the prop shaft is in the way some, Caroline gave a hand to raise and lower :cool2: Able assistant in action Fit you Ba*t%^d !!!! Thats better Champ thing now has nice new shiny oil free clutch and can move under its own steam again just need to take it for a spin to check all ok but clutch does feel a lot better now and I should be able to make to bromyard show next wkend.
  21. Mmmm yes thats the next thing as the engine and gearbox oil are the same its tough to know where the oil originated but there were traces of slightly mustard coloured oil which was the same as the gearbox oil when I changed itawhile ago. I will remove bellhousing drain plug and keep an eye on the situation as far as I know there is no rear crank seal as such ! and it could be that the sump had been overfilled in the past causing oil to seep into bell housing. Have kept an eye on the inside of the gearbox housing to see if oil is weeping from there but no traces so far I hope that the oil collected there over the 30 odd years the truck has stood I had thought it was moved 17 yrs ago but talking to the previous owner he remarked that it was only towed a short distance without the engine running.
  22. Yaay !! clutch NOS. plates arrived in the post this morn so got busy riveting ( they don't call me rampant rivet for nothing :-D ) Ready to rivet Clutch plate in pos using old drive shaft as guide Cover plate fitted need to borrow engine crane to refit gearbox sunday afternoon
  23. Hi Ron Yes many thanks for your hard work past and present just thought I'd put the word out to all those WD Nortons lurking out there that this event will be taking place again in 2014 I will be staying on the campsite this time around. RR.
  24. Calling all WD motorycle owners looks like its going to happen again yippee !!! Message from Ian Wright :- Normandy 2014 info. There definitely will be another 'gathering' of WD bikes to commemorate the 70th. Anniversary of D Day. Target for the 70th. is 200 bikes. The tour will have the campsite at Etreham as its main base and space has already been booked there and a deposit paid. Anyone booked onto the tour will have access to this facility at a pre arranged rate for camping and will not have to make their own arrangements in advance. The 'booking on' list will open early in 2013 and run for a year with booking ceasing in April of 2014. Many riders will choose to make their own arrangements, there will be a 'NOBS' group (Normandy Old Bike Society) staying at their own site who we will be liasing and meeting up with during the D Day week. Some will also elect to stay in hotels, other locations etc. Wherever you choose to stay you will need to be 'booked on' to the tour to be eligible to take part in the main events and Guiness Record run on D Day itself and to receive all the tour information in advance. Negotiations are in hand with the Mayors Office at Arromanche for the official permissions required to enter the center of the town on D Day...again if you are booked onto the tour you will be covered by these permissions and guaranteed access.(not always possible on major anniversaries) Broadly the 'rules' will be the same as for the 65 for 65 event...The purpose of the event is to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D Day with a particular emphasis on the WD Motorcyclists who took part. As such it is a bike only event..no other vehicles are eligible. All WW2 WD motorcycles used by the allied forces are eligible..but not 'captured' motorcycles or any motorcycle not constructed in an allied country..All motorcycles must be presented in a military finish. Exact dates and duration of the tour are still to be decided but it will run for approx. 10 days...Participants will be able to do as little or as much of that time as they choose but (obviously) must be in attendance on D Day. You will be making your own arrangements for getting to Normandy and can arrive by any means..cars and trailers, bikes, vans etc..... That's a brief outline of the basics...full information will be supplied at the appropriate time after booking commences and the details have all been finalised. I (and others) will be going to Normandy next year to complete detailed arrangements...I hope you can all make it for the event..I can guarantee it will be a week you won't forget in a hurry....Ian Lets see if we can muster more than 200 WD M/Cs
